Jimmie Austin University of Oklahoma Golf Course

Rough was deep but very playable, and the greens rolled very true to form! Probably rolling about a 13 or 14 on the stimp meter, very fast and to my liking!!

Have played this course over a year ago, so knew the course and challenges expected, ie length, heavily bunker protected greens. However, the GPS assisted carts have a feature that cuts all power to the cart and displays "restricted area" in areas that were sometimes five feet from the fairway in the first cut. After a few, maybe 10-15 seconds, power returns to the cart so you can return to an "unrestricted area. I'm about an 11 handicap, so it wasn't like I was spraying them all over the course (same is true for my playing partner that day) so it became very annoying to have this happen almost every hole.
The first cut is thick and deeper than a golf ball, so we would have to abandon the cart, look for our balls and guess what clubs we might need. One par five was cart-path only and with drives and second shots in the middle of the fairways, we still couldn't take the cart on to fairway (rain not an issue). On the back nine, the 5 some picked up another player and became a 6-some. I've never played behind a 6-some in my life, and it slowed the pace of play. When I left I stopped by the clubhouse and asked if they allowed 6-somes to play and was told in the late afternoon some members like to pair up. Our tee time was 1:50 and we were a 2-some. The course itself is fun, challenging, and the bunkers (and there are many) had very high quality sand in them. My sense though is this course seems to be mostly for the university community and the fee structure is designed to decrease the number of players outside of this community.
