Last hole....no rain! Photo submitted by sigoooonoraoooo on 10/31/2012
Super friendly staff and pristine conditions of the course, no houses but plenty of trees.
Probably the only reason it took 4.5 hrs. is because we were the first group following a tournament, even at that it was a good pace. Will definitely return.
Traditional Golf Course
This course provides challenges for the low handicap player yet is fun for the high handicap player.
Doak 4
On the Doak scale of course evaluation, 3 is an average course. In Salem, I would put McNary at 3, and this course at 4.
Good course
Beautiful large trees, very scenic. Short fun course. Can be slow on weekends.
Nice Old course, 100+ year old trees, NO HOUSES
Most likely the prettiest course in the Salem area, Huge old trees, nice water features, walkable, (but not flat) room to hit the ball, but not wide open, very friendly staff,
Very good course, has some really challenging par 4s.
There are some short par 5s and some long par 4s on the course. Very mature trees make errant shots pay. One thing that has been a problem for a long time is that they do not have a course marshal. They also mix groups, from 2somes up to 5somes and things can really bog down. Still one of the most fun courses in the area.
good condition for just plugging and sanding. greens rolling good course in good shape.
good easy course. charges to much simply because they can. not many public courses within playing time.
Very enjoyable game on a traditional course with greens in great shape
This course was "playable" -- not too hard and not too easy. Greens and fairways in very good shape. The course was busy on a very nice weather weekend, but play moved along well and the staff seemed genuinely pleased to see that everyone had a good time. This course seems better maintained and more established than many in the Metro area. Very relaxed, fun golf experience.
nice course today..
It was a flawless day, the course played fast in the fairways, greens are a couple of weeks from being great..I love this course
Course is very playable for the average golfer. Has a good variety of conditions for the holes that makes you play many different clubs
I liked the course because it was dry and changeable for the shots it required. Had plenty of trees that meant you had to place your shots carefully our there would be trouble on the next shot.
This course is maintained very well!
This course was great considering the time of year. Just after winter and it was aerated, but it played well and mostly honest.
Good course, friendly service...but could benefit by having a marshall
Even thouigh the course was recently airated, it played pretty well. My only complaint was as we were making the turn, a foursome seemed to be put in front of us - unless the foursome allowed the twosome who make the turn ahead of us to play through. If that's the case, it's o.k.
We chose to play the front nine again because it appears the back nine was backed up and playing slowly. The previous time we played, it took 5 1/2 hours to play 18 holes on a Sunday and there wasn't a marshall to help speed up play.
The staff were all very nice and made sure we had all of our needs met. They went'above and beyond!
Nice deal on a nice course
$20 for 18 holes on this fine course was a great deal.Enjoyed the players we were paired up with and the course was in good shape after a couple of days of rain.
Best in the Salem
I loved it!! I've played them all in Salem minus the private ones. And i found this the bast one in town.
Good course - slow pace (front 9)
Good course, great value. Pace of play needs attention - a marshal would be a great addition to keep pace moving (foursome in front of us congregated at every shot and played at least three tee shots each - thankfully they bagged it after 9).
love the course
we were treated very good, course in great shape for the amount of rain weve had.
Solid course, but a bit overpriced
Salem Golf Club is your average semi-private course. It's in okay shape -- the drainage isn't ideal, and there are some spots on the course that are very soggy. The greens are in fine shape for early-March, and they're running at a pretty average speed.
The course itself is pretty unremarkable, but it's a playable golf course. I wouldn't pay more than $25 to play it, though, as there are other courses in the area that are equally good, if not better, for a lower rate.
Great course
Great course to play, easy walking course and great features. Nice clubhouse. Greens are well maintained for winter play. It has a mixed of difficulties for beginners and intermediate play. The practice putting green is much faster than the playing greens. The restaurant is a nice addition to the course as well. The pro shop personnel are very friendly and welcoming
Pretty good value for Valley in winter
The problem is --as with all Willamette Valley courses in the winter: wet and muddy. Better than last year, but still reall then grass and muddy lies over 2/3 of the course; greens are in good shape, just a bit spongy. But NO roll anywhere; well-hit drives BACKING UP! If you can get to the coast: Sandpines is excellent; Ocean Dunes; Alderbrook, or one of the none-hole courses, their condition is far superior.
