Great course always fun to play.
Great course. Has a few tough holes but overall great fun to play
Title: Salem Golf Club, Salem, Oregon
The course is visually attractive, and I like the fact that it has no houses or other development around it. The owners need to take better care of it, though. The course tends to get wet and mushy in the winter months, and the lack of a sanding program really shows up during that time. Also, the owners should apply more water to the course during the summer months, as the course suffers sparse fairway and rough conditions in various areas. The course is quite popular and gets a lot of play, so I would think that the owners could afford to give the course the maintenance and improvements that it deserves. The clubhouse is very nice, built in the Southern tradition, and overlooking holes 1 and 10. It's a fine place to have a brew and popcorn (free) or other food after the round, while you watch other golfers tee off.
Beautiful course, great deal, a little wet!
This is just a gorgeous city course. Fairly tight with houses everywhere. Beautifully manicured course, but being so old, the drainage isn't great and there were definitely some swampy fairways. Overall great experience. I would highly recommend this course paired with a great golfnow deal!
Great course with well keep greens.
This is a challenging course, with some tight fairways and well keep greens. It has blue, white and red tees which really change the look of the holes. The course isn't extremely long, but does have a few long par fours, and a short par five. I have played several courses in the Salem area, this is by far the best one to improve your game. Only problem is that it doesn't drain well after a lot of rain, so if it been raining for weeks stay away. But its fine if it has been on and off for a couple of days.
Fun, nice,and cheap
If you like to play a good challenge course and cheap, Salem golf course is the place for you. They also very friendly too.
Great Day!
The day was suppose to be a rainy one...but no rain. The course was in good shape and it was a great day to golf in the Willamette Valley.
Great course.
The course was in great shape and I had a pleasant experience
Salem has always been a favorite for me.
Retail price is too high but when you find deals then it can be a good value. Winter time is pretty mushy if it has been raining. Overall it is a fun course to play with good variety.
mature tree lined course
Always fun to play, traditional course with with mature fir trees lining the fairways. Not challenging as far as distance, but with the trees, water and sand traps, there is plentyof difficulty to be challenging and fun. Well maintained and the greens are a little faster than other courses in the area. We had a greast time at a great price.
This course is very nice and mature
great old course, plenty of challenge for better golfers. well maintain. not so much of a bomber's course some course management and creativity will get you around this course nicely. Be cautious of crossing holes, greens are wonderful and challenging to putt on.
good location, beautiful mature trees. disappointing condition of course
A real nice location, with no houses around it and mature trees. The proshop staff have always seemed to distain non-members.
The fairways were a little rough, with much hard and brown stretches just off the fairway. The greens were plugged and sanded about 9/17, so they were still recovering when I played about 9/29.
I enjoyed the round with the 3 other golfnow players. Quite friendly and a good group for a round of golf.
NIce variety of holes
The course is a fine NW old style course with the fairway right in front of you as opposed to a target course. It is lined with fir trees making hitting the fairway a premium. The holes are varied and not alongside one another. The fairways are firm and green are alway goods and fast for a public course. I have played the course many times and it is one of my two favorite in the area, McNary being the other. A good value for you golfing dollar.
Great older course with tree lined fareways
One of the oldest courses in the Willamette Valley. Wonderful tree lined fairways with ample room for recovery from wayward shots. Just enough sand to keep you concentrating and strategic water on several holes. The greens are small in comparison to the city parks that the professional hit to, but undulations and grain can make them challenging. Easy walking for fit seniors and women.
good deal for the golfnow rate
For the rack rate I would not recommend this course BUT they are often on golfnow.com with great deals. A short course with lots of VERY large trees lining the fairways. A fun course that is well maintained and has a nice bar.
while checking in, the staff member was very gruff in explaining why he was going to charge me $24 to rent a cart by myself.
Well-maintained course always. Greens were fast. Course play was good pace.
Salem is a fun layout....
but poor drainage in winter means plugged balls, etc. Nice pro shop with Southern-style clubhouse.
