Poor fairways
1) The fairway grass is thin. With even our slightly wet conditions, fairways were difficult to play.
2) Overall course layout is weird: Driving landing zones vary tremendously --from very narrow with large trees to very wide.
c) Burying creeks is always a problem: Why? They are fair natural hazards.
Great place to play
Greens were in good shape and fairways were nicely mowed. Always enjoy playing here. Enough challenge to keep you on your toes, but you always have a chance to get out of trouble because the course is fairly flat.
Well maintained Older Course
I have played this course several times over the past few years. The course is easily walked. There is water throughout the course and can come into play on several holes if you stray from the fairway. Over all the course is in good shape. My only complaint is that the greens speed varies from hole to hole which made putting somewhat of a challenge.
Santiam a great course
Pretty course and fun to play. Really like it there!
Everything is very good
Well featured, well maintained course. Food is good also.
Fun Course - Rude Staff
Overall, the course was in good shape. The greens were immaculate but, unfortunately, several of the pin placements were on sidehills just a few paces from the edge which made it difficult to stop the ball near the hole. I don't mind a challenge but some of these placements should be saved for tournament play and not used for everyday play by people who do not play the course regularly.
The person working in the pro shop was not polite and helpful. One of my partners had a 2-4-1 coupon and wanted to pay for his half only. However, when he got his credit card receipt, it appeared that he had paid for both players. When he asked about it, the staff person did not get off of his stool and take the time to show him how the receipt was laid out. Instead he got defensive and wanted to argue. Eventually, he explained the receipt and my partner was satisfied. I then observed six people on the #1 tee box. When I asked if we could start on the back, he wanted to argue about the number of players. He finally stepped outside and saw six people but told me that only five were playing. He did allow us to start on #10 rather than play behind a group of five.
Despite the unprofessional behavior of the staff person, I would recommend this course.
Great course , the conditions were spot on
The course was in great condition, the greens were smooth, sand traps acceptable , great course to walk very level
course was ok
though I had signed up for 18 but when I showed up at course somehow the trickery of golf now and their cleaver advertisement I paid for 9 and had to pay extra for the other 9...beware of golf now advertisement.
Course marshal not freindly, locals not reasonable.
On the 5th hole the marshal came bye and told us to pick up our pace. He was very annoyed when we pointed to the large group playing one hole ahead of us. I will never spend my money at this course again. If you aren't a member than you are treated like a no one.
great place for beginners.
The staff very helpful and aloud us to play a with five players.
Do play this course.
I had a wonderful day at the Santiam Golf course. It is a very well maintained course in excellent condition. The greens were in great shape and very fast. What I didn't know was that they were having a tournament later in the day so the pin placements were in some very tough spots. But overall it is a great walking course and very playable for all level of players. One great thing is that they keep the rough short so that you can find an errant shot easier and speeds up play. I like courses that do that. Worth the money and the time to play. I highly recommend this course to anyone.
well maintained course, freindly staff, easy to walk.
I played on a Saturday and the pace of play was good, greens were in good condition. Course was relatively flat and easy to walk. Staff was friendly and helpful. Good course.
Long, straight, lots of trees, fun, greens a bit rough.
A nice course, not super manicured, but not too rough either. Fairways on 4's and 5's mostly tree lined both sides. Lots of straight holes with a big advantage to long straight drives. Not much water. Nice combination of elevated and non elevated greens. Sand in the bunkers looked like the beach kind, but under it was the hard kind that you have to thawack hard to penetrate. Greens took some effort to not three putt, not the best cup cuts with a few surprise putts taking mysterious turns near the cup. Really, though, a fun course, walkable, fairly flat, and about ten strokes harder for me than the more manicured courses in the area. Thanks for the great afternoon Santiam Golf!
A nice course, greens in great shape
I enjoyed my time at Santiam. Lost a few balls but the greens were in great shape. Played with 3 "strangers" but nice people.
The course is very fair and well maintained.
This course is very fair and well maintained. I couldn't, however, recommend using Golfnow to obtain a reservation since Golfnow appears to not easily disclose all information it should regarding what it is you are buying.
Course is flat so balls not below or above your feet.
We really like playing this course. The fairways are narrow and offer a little more challenge. Greens were pretty fast and pin placement was more challenging.
Tougher than it looks
I have been driving by this course for awhile and finally had the opportunity to play it. I was pleasantly surprised at how well laid out the course was. The tree lined fairways made it the most challenging. If was in the fairway par was made but if I ended up off fairway then it was very difficult to par. I will plan on playing there again.
Lots of fun to play.
The course is not an easy one but also not too hard, just a fun course to play. And it was in very good condition, fairways, especially the greens. This is only the third time I have played the course but the people working the proshop were very accomodating as I showed up about 45 minutes early and they really tried to get me out early. One of the guys who was working in the proshop, when I was done with my 18 holes, called me by first and last name, asked me how my round went and how did I shoot. These guys see a lot of people in a day and him remembering my first and last name was, to me, impressive. I also told him that the course was in great shape, he agreed and said that hopefully I would come out and play it again. Very friendly!
Fivesomes on a Saturday morning?
The course was dry despite the recent weather and the greens were in solid shape, but the fairways seem like they need some attention. The biggest drawback was the two groups of fivesomes in front of us. I am not sure why the course would allow that during "prime" time on a Saturday morning. $40 for the round seemed a bit steep.
