Play this one in a Crunch and at a Discount
Alderbrook is in need of renovation and maintenance, though there may not be room to correct all of the defects in the layout. The layout feels cramped on several holes which results in some close adjacent holes that are protected by large trees. The front nine is ok, but there is an absolutely awful uphill par three on the back that should be eliminated. Hole 11, 12 and 13 on back nine are adjacent hole, so you have to walk back up 12 after playing it to the tee box of 13. The layout online shows 12 as a short par 3, indicating either history or a future change?
Maintenance is spotty. The greens were very slow, and rough. You couldn't count on the ball tracking unless you rammed the ball to the back of the hole.
Sand traps were not raked and had several days of animal footprints there to catch your ball. Fairways were generally green and in good condition.
I'd only play this course as a practice round to work on drives and approach shots. Forget fair scoring around the greens.
Great little course on the Coast
First time playing here. Course was in good shape considering our dry summer, but had some muddy spots from last few days of rain. The greens were in great shape with lots of slopes. Yes the 15th hole is ridiculous, you need to be a mountain goat, but the rest of the course was great. The front nine easier than the back. The back has the 13th and 14th as wicked doglegs left and if you tee shot is not long enough it takes 3 shots to get to the green. Price was great and I would play again.
Interesting
The course has an interesting layout. The dry conditions caused a lot of extra roll and most of the streams that cross the fairways were dry. But I enjoyed the course and will probably play it again since I will be in the area another two weeks. The restaurant is closed on Mondays so play some other day.
Fun 18 hole seaside course
Back nine is pretty tricked up with one really bad hole. No.17 is 125 yd par3 with the green straight uphill, a cliff, 100 yd. hit my 140 yd club, not close.
Worth playing
This course is a little off the beaten track but easy to get to. The Restaurant is closed on Mondays so there was no food to be had. The golf shop has, water, soda, Gatorade and some beers. The driving range is sufficient for getting warmed up but you will be hitting off of mats. But they are in good shape.
The course is very walkable except for two holes where you have a fairly healthy climb. At 6071 yards from the Blue tees you might think the course is on the short side but there are some healthy par 4's at over 400 yards. The lay out is a bit funky and in my opinion could use a layout change, the 15th hole is not a golf hole and should be done away with. Conditions were average to good for the area. The greens had been top dressed the day we played but they rolled true but a little on the slow side. We had some hole locations that were very tough and should not be placed in those areas of the green. Couldn't keep the ball on the green if the putt was missed. A hole location should never be placed at the edge of a slope. My guess is these hole locations were due to the top dressing of the greens.
This course is good for the advanced player as well as beginners, women, kids...a good all around course. I would play here again if I were in the area. The price was very reasonable.
fun course
Course description states it's par 69 but it's actually par 71. And one of the par four holes requires a monster drive to get into position for the approach. Plenty long and very well maintained, interesting greens. Walkable with understanding that two holes require a steep accent. Get a power cart if you are not in decent physical condition. Overall a great course for the money and I recommended that golfers of any skill level give it a try.
golfing at alderbrook
enjoyed the course. not a long hitter so it was challenging for me. greens were excellent, fun course to play and i would recommend it to people going to the coast.
Nice addition to beach weekend
My family was visiting the beach for the weekend so I booked a tee time here. I booked a deal through golfnow. A cart was not included but they gave me a cart anyways without additional charge, which was pretty awesome.
The course is fun, with some unique holes. The greens rolled smooth and the fairways were in nice condition. A lot of subtle breaks on the green that made things tricky but fun. The uphill 15th is nearly impossible if you don't hit the ball high. The tee shot on 16 is really great as you are elevated and hit down a huge hill.
I would recommend a cart, especially for the back nine. There are some steep hills that would be tiring to lug a bag up and down.
this course was a great find
nice layout, challenging, but fair. hole locations tough to figure out without signage
Nice views and great layout
Course was in great condition. Tight fairways and postage stamp greens challenging course from tee box to pin.
Wierd Layout
I played with some slow people which made the round in the 5 hour range. The place didn't have hardly anyone playing on it. The restaurant was closed on a Sunday of all things Greens were so slow you could not get any kind of feel for them. There is still a lot of really wet spots all over the course. I did get some good practice in with the new irons..
Surprising gem of a course
Got there at noon, for early May a beautifull sunny day.
Tree lined tough little course, spray your ball left like I did on the first nine and your in trouble..Back nine we
all played better wind started to blow hitting club solid a must. Some very interesting holes..all in all for being on the oregon coast nice course nice time, would recommend..
View from on top
Bring extra balls if you don't do well with water hazards and deep brush.
They have 2 holes one on front 9 and one on back 9 that have great views and tee shots that seem like 500 yard drives.
Great Course to play while staying locally
I found a $10 tee time for this course (normally 40-50/round). The fairways and greens were well manicured. The course plays fairly tight, so more conservative shots lead to better scoring. The greens are HUGE and have some good slope to them. On and off showers throughout the round added a little difficulty, slowed down the ball, and made it stick to the green when using wedges.
Driving range was in decent shape, and I was able to swing off the grass instead of driving mats. The proshop was well equipped, and the restaurant had great "golf" food.
I really enjoyed my time, and will definitely play this course again for the $10.
condescending staff
I booked my tee time on Golf Now for 1pm on a Saturday, and arrived about 30 minutes early to check-in. I had left my phone in the car with my clubs while I went to check-in, but I was told they could not check me in without my Golf Now confirmation number (I've booked 50+ tee times through golf now and have never once been asked for this, so I assume it pops right up on their computer screen...). So I went back and got my phone from the car. Slightly annoying, but not a huge deal.
I had paid in full for 2 golfers, however my friend couldn't make it, so it ended up being just me. That being said, I wasn't worried about a refund, but I did ask if I could get a power cart since I'd be the only one playing and had paid for 2 (didn't seem like a crazy request..)
This is when things really went downhill. I was (condescendingly) told how much people 'normally pay' to play at this course on the weekends, and then was told "you probably only paid; what?; $10-12 dollars per person for your round today? I think you already got a pretty good deal, so no, it'd be $20 for a cart."
I figured I may have to pay for a cart, and that was fine, but the way in which I was treated (like some kind of second class golfer) was a reason I may not be a returning customer.
Great day, great golf
I have been wanting to play this course since arriving in the area 2 weeks ago. Finally took advantage of the great weather and price. With all I saved I decided to rent a cart, but it is easily walkable except for the big hill on #15. I would have liked to play with someone else but the course was very quiet. I used my Sonocaddie GPS, but the course has changed recently so not all holes were accurate. I had plated this course over 10 years ago when it was barely better than a cow pasture, this was a big improvement.
I look forward to playing again, hopefully with my husband who is fishing for salmon every day.
needs to be maintained better
It had rained hard the day before we played so the course was some what wet makeing the rough very difficult. We played at 1:00 PM on a sunny day yet
the greens were very wet and in need of moweing. Same for the tee boxes. Very nice club house but they need to maintain the course better. I will likely not play again.
Good conditions overall
The weather did not cooperate, so the course was a little wet. However, it was still fun to play. The people in the club house and restaurant were very friendly. We would definitely play again.
Outstanding Weather! What Luck!
I got lucky and played the last nice day of the summer. The only thing I can critique them on is that they seem to over water. It has been one of the warmest and driest summers on record but there were alot of mushy areas and even had a ball plug near the second green. I also played 18 alone and finished in 3 hrs. This course is worth the money even if you don't get the hot rate.
I've come over 4 times from Central Oregon and the reason I come over the mountains to this course is that this is an old time, small green, fun course. A real throw back. Small greens, tricky! Fun!! The people in the pro shop are ALWAYS friendly. Perhaps (?) you had a bad round? I've broken 80 EVERY time. My guess: you didn't.
