Again, great!
This is an old timey course. 50+ years old. It isn't like on TV! Narrow, undulating fairways, small greens. This is perfectly acceptable as long as you know this. You're at 68ft above sea level, in marine air, so the course plays about 300-400yds longer than what the card says. EASILY! Tricky holes. Carry this, stop on that, you get the point.. One hole on back is UNPLAYABLE! A par 3. You will know it when you see it. Played it 4 times now ( I"m 71 yrs old and a 7 hdcp) but iy plays sooo much longer than the yardage. Fun.....
Variety of different challenges
Playing the course was fun especially number 15!! Course had great conditions despite the rain.
Worth a drive to the Coast
Alderbrook is fantastic. I'm not a great golfer but I'm an avid and dedicated one. I will definitely drive back to the beach to play this course. It is a beautiful setting and is beautifully maintained. Dan in the pro shop is friendly and knowledgeable. My friend and loved the course despite the very challenging greens. They are like PGA greens they are perfect green monsters. And then there is the 15th hole. That's all I'm saying but conserve your energy. We will definitely play again before the rains arrive! Do yourself a favor, enjoy a drive to Tillamook and play a round at Alderbrook.
Fairly tight fairways with some elevation changes
A nice moderate course with some challenging elevation changes. The green tend to be elevated with makes for the need to throw some darts and make them stick to keep your score low.
very interesting...good greens, challenge for hi handicap
My husband and I walked 18 on a sunny Sunday and I really enjoyed the course. Pace of play was good as traffic was light. Good walking course but for two holes, one was a backtrack to the tee box and the other was a par 3 that had the steepest climb to an elevated green I've ever seen. Fun at the next tee box to hit from elevation. Fairways were in overall good condition, some dry bare spots. Good and lots of rough and greens were good, many undulations made for thoughtful putting. Generous fairways mostly, a few creeks crossing them and nice setting with no homes along fairways. I would love to play again but not sure hubby is ready.
Beautiful club house
Wish we could have played the front nine but it was closed due to repaving the cart paths.
No discount
I didn't get any discount on my round of golf. I could have saved my GolfNow fee if I would have booked my tee time on my own. I will be checking normal rates on all courses from now on. Overall......awesome course!!!!
Fun!
This was an extremely fun course. DO NOT let the yardage fool you. By my estimate it plays 300-400 yds longer than the card. 1st: you're at sea level, with heavy marine air, fairways that have longer grass than you expect (probably because of the salt air). Also, imagine your home course greens, and then divide that size by 3 maybe 4, postage stamp size. Also MANY are elevated 1-2 ft above the fairways ALL the way around, so if you miss one, chipping is very, very tricky! We had a blast! Tricky, have to place your shots (tee shots also) between mature overhanging trees. Was in nice condition, staff VERY friendly, we'll be back. I shot 77, but I HAD to concentrate on EVERY shot.
First Timer
We had lunch at Koko's restaurant before our tee time. The service was great and the food very tasty. The course was a bit of a challenge. There are a couple of holes that were easier and some a bit harder. But, overall a beautiful course with great views from to top of the hill. We are looking forward to going back again this summer!
Golfnutty
This was a nice course. It is well maintained and the greens were in great shape shape. The course is not the longest but the greens and the their rolling contours made most of the hole plenty challenging.
Nice course with some interesting greens
Course was an enjoyable experience with a couple of interesting Par 3 greens. No. 8 has undulating greens with a swale in the middle. No. 15 is played with @ a 100 yd ascent from tee box to green from the forward tees. Overall the coarse was well maintained and had enough challenges to keep you guessing.
Staff was very pleasant and helpful. They made me feel very welcome there.
Bad layout, poorly maintained, bad drainage
This course was a huge disappointment. Their website makes it look really enticing, but the course does not come close to the website pictures. The clubhouse is a nice new facility, but the pro shop is limited and the majority of the club house is for the restaurant and bar.
The staff was cordial, but the cart we rented ran out of power on the 12th hole and I had to walk back to the clubhouse to get another cart.
The front nine was fairly nice, but the layout was confusing with crisscrossing cart paths and limited signage to the correct tee box. The back nine is a disaster. It was like playing a cow pasture. The fairways were full of weeds and were not well cut. The greens are elevated, but still had a lot of water running down their slopes and forming bogs at the base of the green. There is a 114 yrd par 3 that goes up hill at a very steep angle. Unless you hit the green with your tee shot, you are playing on the very steep hill with weedy, uncut grass that makes it extremely difficult to even find your ball, much less hit it. My partner and I are both elderly and he has difficulty walking on gentle slopes. It was impossible for him to walk on the slope to get to his ball, so we just picked up and moved on to the next tee box. The green on this par 3 was also in deplorable condition with large bare spots throughout the green.
Only part of the cart path is paved and the rest is in extremely poor condition. One part of the path on the back nine was closed due to the poor condition of the path.
The course has potential, but needs a tremendous amount of work to make it worth the cost.
I would not recommend this course to anyone.
The course has potential, and the staff was great, but...
Greens were horrible...full of sand and mowed grass...too slow and ball wouldn't roll...and it was a dry, nice day! Course has potential, but the greens made the round too challenging...these greens were not plugged and sanded...just terribly wet and sandy.
Not a lot of choices
While camping north of Tillamook, Or., I was looking for a close 18 hole course. GolfNow gave me three selections, two of which were par3 or putt-putt. I looked into Alderbrook, and read the three reviews. Of course, none of the reviews agreed with each other. I gambled and was not disappointed. The back 9 needs some work on the fairways and greens, but in all it was a fine day. P.S. - the course was deserted on Labor Day?
Fun Course withsome great views
Really slow greens - they need tighter cutting or a new grass.
Breathtaking vistas Tough track very challenging.
Liked the front side better than the back hard to find your way around if your not familiar with the course tough back 9 but overall a very pleasant course and enjoyable. Not crowded good food friendly staff etc..
A well engineered course that lacks finishing touches.
The front nine were well maintained although the greens were slow and unpredictable. The back nine was poorly maintained and had only one ball washer, only on the 18th tee! Some of the greens were under repair and totally unsatisfactory. Some of the cart paths were too steep and caused some trepidation on the back nine as well. The fairways were not clearly defined, nor were the directions to the next hole always evident. Overall, I would rate it a 2.5 or 3 out of 5.... room for improvement.
Friendly but not worth the money
No paved cart paths....pretty much like 4 wheeling on a logging road. Fairways on the back side in particular need a lot of work....it was like riding through a cow pasture. Greens way to slow. They were also very small but I understand the need for that with such a short golf course. I play a premium course in my area (SW Washington) for less money than I paid at Alderbrook. The people, however, were super friendly and courteous...and the club house is really nice.
Ho-hum
A couple of fun, funky par-3's. Just an old-fashioned back-and-forth course...except when you have to walk 1/4 mile green-to-tee in the weird new layout. Lots of SLOW players. But it's still an OK course (but not worth the $45 normal green fees).
