About

Holes 18
Type Public
Par 71
Length 6237 yards
Slope 131
Rating 70.4

There are two courses at Cedarbrook Golf Club in Belle Vernon, the Red and the Gold. The Red Course is the shorter of the two courses at 6,237 yards from the back tees. Although it is more than 500 yards shorter, it still offers plenty of challenges. There are water hazards that come into play as well as several strategically placed bunkers. One of the trickiest holes is the par-3 third, which requires a carry over a massive lake to a small green. Although there are also mature trees lining the fairways, the holes are fairly straightforward. Beginners can approach this golf course with confidence but more advanced players will find it to be a fun casual round. The Gold Course is a better option for a tougher challenge. Cedarbrook also has a full practice range and several putting and chipping greens.

Staff threatened to call the cops on us for going too slow.

Traveling through with my future brother in-law’s bachelor party group and we booked this place to play some golf. 5 golfer and I was just riding along. Before we even got into our carts, we asked if we could all play together instead of splitting up into two groups. We were told enthusiastically, yes. While playing, we did left a few other groups play through as they caught up however, a member of the staff rolled up on his cart and informed us that “we have been getting a lot of complaints” and that “you are going too slow” so we will have to split up. Now, I get it, I don’t think any of us would have cared too much if we had to split up but this staff member monologued on, “if you don’t split up, I’m going to have to ask you to leave and call the cops.”

Naturally, threatening to call the cops didn’t sit well with me or the rest of my group. This, though the most shocking revelation we had to deal with, the pro-shop attendent had about the same enthusiasm as a Walmart self checkout and the snack bar was grossly understaffed. The poor girl working there was just swamped and no one was able to help her. I don’t have anything bad to say about her, she just simply couldn’t keep up.

The course was alright, but the staff here is just miserable and having the threat of the cops being called on us is just the cherry on top.

Fun course with plenty of variety

The Red Course at Cedarbrook is shorter than the Gold Course, but still offers plenty of challenge without taking away the enjoyment of the round. The front nine is comprised of mostly short but pretty holes with small ponds and trees scattered between them. Each hole is unique in length, slope, and direction. The back nine opens up more and offers longer holes, including a par-5 with two routes to the green. All four par-3s on the course are excellent, despite the first one being under 100 yards. Conditions were great, especially the greens. For only $30 to play 18 holes with a cart, the experience is well worth it.

Outstanding

The Staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
The course was in immaculate shape, the greens were very smooth and the speed was consistent. I did notice that they have some very, very subtle undulations. I highly recommend the Red Course and if I ever get the chance, I would really like to play the Yellow.

Course is in good shape...Can't beat LCD GPS in carts.

Course was in surprisingly good shape. Greens were rolled and didn't have the disease, that the gold course had on half the greens late last summer. Staff could have been friendlier. Walked in and had to wait at counter for girl to finish her convo with somebody else behind the desk, then she said, "we dont typically allow our golf now people to go out on the course early, but you can go ahead there aren't any tee times schedule for the next 2 hours." You would think they would be happy to have customers period on a 55 degree, cloudy with scattered showers day.

Great overall course

I gave this course 5 stars because I think it plays like an intermediate course should play. Fun, challenging, forgiving, open, water. There are challenging holes here and also holes that you can just flat out bomb the ball. Hazards aren't unfairly placed and there is enough water to feel like a golf course.

The views are great and the course is an 8/10 when it comes to being maintained (it is still early in the year - May) . Highly recommended for a business outing or even just a day to have fun with some buddies.

Nice Course, Needs Some Work

This course has a nice layout. The Gold course especially, but both have areas in the fairways that have bald spots (mostly on Gold) that need addressed. I played Red, but drove around the Gold course to check it out. Also, some of the tee boxes are not level. Other than that, I really like the courses. Greens were in decent shape. I think they are working on cleaning up the courses, and if so, this will be a very good place to play.

Fun course to play

Cedarbrook Golf Club - Red Course is a great course. Greens are always in top shape. The staff keeps up with maintenance of sand bunkers. Well worth the money.

Front 9 somewhat short. Back 9 opens up.

For the discount price it was worth the play. Front 9 played slow as many players spent too much time looking for balls in leaves, which was a problem here and at most courses this time of the year.

Blue tees are good yardage for me, well bunkered.

It was a warm, partly sunny day. Fairways, rough and bunkers were in decent shape . Greens were darn fast. It was very windy on front 9 and leaves were a factor, but winds calmed down on back 9.

The GPS seems off and the greens weren't the best

It's been a while since I played Cedarbrook red course and the greens weren't as good as I remembered. There were burned out spots and areas on a few that were mud instead of green. I also noticed the GPS didn't seem accurate. There were a few times where the GPS indicated I was 110 yards to the center of the green so I hit a pitching wedge. I normally hit a wedge 100-110 but there were a couple times I hit over based on what the GPS stated. I know I don't hit my wedge 120 yet if the yardage was to be believed, that is what I was hitting consistently. I'm pretty good at eying up the yardage too and many times my eye disagreed with the GPS. If you use the GPS as a tool and not the end all/be all you will be fine. Overall, Cedarbrook red is a wonderful course and a lot of fun to play. I especially like the 90 yard par 3 over the water (hole 3). There are also a couple of holes that are along the interstate so if road noise bothers you, be aware. The golfnow.com deal makes the negatives about the course miniscule considering the value.
