Great Layout
Challenging course, tough but fair, no tricked upped holes. Staff is very friendly. Greens are in nice shape and run true.
Champion Lakes is a must play in western PA.
Champion Lakes is a shot maker's course, with tree-lined tee boxes and fairways, tight doglegs and pristine greens and bunkers. The staff is great, very helpful and friendly. The first couple holes start out wide open with few hazards, but starting on the fourth hole, target golf is the smart play for the rest of the round.
Challenging, great layout with many problems
Loved the layout of the course, it is definitely a challenging experience. However, it is darn near impossible to play without getting eaten alive by swarms of bugs. It was the worst conditions I'd had to play in in all my years of golfing. You coudln't swing a club without getting a bug in your eye. The ponds are terribly kept and the fairways could use some work. Definitely not the same course it was 10-15 years ago. And that is definitely a shame.
Fantastic Fourth
Took advantage of the holiday and got a great rate for this course. This really is a fantastic course. A challenging, but playable course that is in great condition with really nice greens. Loved it so much, we played an additional 9 for only $10. Definitely worth the drive into the Laurel Highlands.
One of the more challenging courses in the area
Course in good condition. Greens a little too fast compared to the others courses in the area.
great value on this challenging layout
good overall experience, but course is not immune to slow play and poor golf etiquette.
Great way to spend an afternoon
Hadn't played here since shortly after it opened. Trees have grown, fairways are nice, and greens are very good for this early in year. Lots of sand. Will be back
This course is in excellent shape for Spring golf
I played this course in some very challenging conditions. Winds were 25 to 35 mph and the temperature was a mere 38 degrees. The greens are in excellent shape and very receptive to holding the shot. True roll and consistent speed on all greens. Fairways and Tee boxes are in very good shape. I would definitely play this course again.. The course is not long in yardage, but requires shot making abilities. The front nine is fairly easy, while the back nine is very demanding. A very good challenge for even the accomplished golfer.
Still Difficult
Champion Lakes is still one of the most challenging courses around. I believe it ay have been the first day it had been open for a while. Greens were shaggy but that is understandable for this time of year. Allison and the staff were great and very friendly.
Nice track at a good price.
Very nice old school tree lined course with a number of unique holes. Holes rnaged from fairly easy to moderately difficult.
challenging and tight with lots of out of bounds
The front 9 had slower greens and tight tree lined fairways. The back 9 had must faster greens more open fairways. Could have better yardage markers. A 150 marker would help. Over all the course is in great shape. I will play this course again and tell all of my golfing buddies to go.
The greens were challenging and in nice condition.
Leaves everywhere on 4 holes, very difficult to find ball.
Excellent
I have played every public track within 75 miles of Pittsburgh and this course remains in the top tier among moderately priced courses. It is always in excellent condition and the setting in the Laurel Valley is one of the most picturesque anywhere.
Challenging length for the senor/women golfer
The course was extremely well cared for by a courtious staff. We intend to take advantage of the B/B 36 hole special as the folliage will be spectacular soon, Nothing but praise for Mr. Groat and his course.
Bunkers had grass growing in them and not groomed; Bugs are terrible...Cant they spray? Just aweful
Bugs are terrible...just aweful
Course has gone downhill, bunkers are not kept up have grass growing....
Would not come back
