Amazing layout never disappoints…
This course is a pleasure to play. Such a great layout and fantastic greens.
Course in great shape, enjoyable in spite of cold wind!
We enjoyed the course but the round took 5 hours. Group in front was slow, slow! Never saw a ranger. Still like the course and conditions were excellent both fairways and greens. Greens very challenging. Will return and hope round is faster.
A Pleasure to Play Here
This was the third time I've played Legacy and I intend to play it often while we're in Pinehurst and I'd freely recommend it to anyone. The white tees were very fair in distance and fairway width. The blue tees really test you, especially on the challenging par 3's. The staff are very friendly. The only thing that might surprise you is the quickness of the greens. They don't look thin or particularly fast. They easily hold a high approach shot - many of mine rolled only a couple of inches, but they putt very fast and true.
Lovely greens
I brought my Scottish friends to visit and they quite enjoyed the course. Their home courses are in St. Andrews so that compliment goes a long way. They were also impressed by the multiple tee box options.
Legacy Links -Great value and overall good shape
Legacy is a great value. Course was in excellent shape except for tee boxes on 3 holes that they are replacing. Other than those tee box issue, the course would be 5 stars. Staff extremely helpful and pace of play was great.
Maybe going in bankruptcy
Conditions have deteriorated to beneath muni category. Fairways are spotty at best. Bunkers have weeds growing in them and not maintained. Greens were hideous. Tee boxes were the best part of the course. Staff was indifferent and just going thru the motions. Pace of play was good because no one was playing Used to be a nice alternative to the Pinehurst course. STAY AWAY!
Needs a new groundskeeper
This course is in terrible shape and nowhere near a $90 round type of course. Way better options within 10 miles. I’m very disappointed in the maintenance of this course. Greens are shameful and burnt out, covered in sand and like putting on old school sand greens. Played this course many times but recently played a twilight round and had to deal with random homeowner/trespassers popping up all over the course during our last tee time round.
Legacy GL
Legacy GL is about 15 minutes outside of Pinehurst. It's a very player friendly course layout with mostly generous fairways and some challenging undulations around the green complexes. There are 3-4 really nice holes, the other holes are decent but not spectacular. The course was in decent shape and the greens were in good shape. Several of the holes have the "saddleback" fairways that help wayward shots come back into play. This course has double bogies and eagles and everything in between. There are better courses in the Pinehurst area but this was good; I'd come back and play.
Excellent course
Course was in very good shape as usual. There greens were pristine as usual but a few of the FW were patchy most likely due to extreme heat. This course is one of the best around for the money (got a great deal on golf now). One of my favs in the area.
Best for the money!
Great track…..no bad holes, and that’s hard to say for most courses! I believe it’s the best value for your money here in the Sandhills. All the courses have raised their rates this year…..Legacy is a good value compared to most!
Always a great layout; current condition is substandard
I've been playing this track a couple times a year since it opened almost 30 years ago. I recently described it to someone as being a great layout, very challenging and always in good shape. I was obviously disappointed then to find the course in substandard condition this week. I would say it was the worst condition I've ever seen it, but I'd condition that by saying that it wasn't THAT bad.
I can't recall if it has always been wall-to-wall bermuda, but it certainly is now. With that comes a completely different set of requirements for mowing. The fairways should me mown very tight and the roughs really have to be given thought. If bermuda roughs get even a little bit too long they can become almost unplayable for the average golfer. On this day the roughs weren't too long, but the tee boxes and the fairways were. Tee boxes were lumpy and uneven, which IMO is inexcusable. Every tee box should be billiard table level and smooth. Fairway grass was too long as were some approach areas which made all approach shots more difficult than they should have been.
The lakes were grown over with lillipads and gunk. The pro shop had next to nothing in it and gross stains all over the carpet. There was nobody helping with carts or acting as a starter. There is construction going on next to and across the street from the driving range.
In all, I just got the sense that maybe there is a shortage of money or effort being put into the place right now. I hope that isn't the case because it has always been a place I've looked forward to playing.
