Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2020.

Located just south of Allentown, Pa., Locust Valley Golf Course is less than hour from Philadelphia and the Poconos and only 15 minutes from the New Jersey border. The course is player friendly enough for high handicappers to approach with confidence but there are a few challenges in store as well. The 6,504-yard layout is a manageable length but there are still a few holes that will test your distance. The terrain is mostly flat though there are a few subtle contours that can be tricky. The fairways have a lot of variation with some that are wide and forgiving and others that are tighter and demand greater accuracy. You'll also have to watch out for the occasional water hazard. Locust Valley is not the most challenging golf course in the area, but it's one of the best values you'll find in town.

Fairways are fine. Greens are very slow. Sand traps are a disgrace.

Day after hurricane

green is slow and bunker has more water than sand since it is day after hurricane hit the town badly.
Considering all, course condition is good also can't beat golfnow hot deal + promo code. Two of us finished round in 3.5hrs.
Locust layout is always little challenging but fun. Your second shot to elevated greens requires some thoughts.

The course has great bones, but needs work.

This is a fun layout that requires you to shape your shots. It feels very tight on a lot of holes, but some of that is deceptive. Do not try to bite off the corner of the doglegs. The trees are all tall and will pick off your golf ball. The course was understandably wet after a downpour, but they still have some serious drainage issues, especially the bunkers. The staff is reasonably friendly. It might be the strangest setup when you first arrive at the course. There are multiple barns and multiple parking lots which may or may not contain a clubhouse. The signage is really bad, so you just have to wander around until you find an employee or fellow golfer. I just followed other golfers across three parking lots before I found the clubhouse. Be extremely careful as you cross the active roadway to the first tee. You come out of a blind alley and cars are sometimes flying by as you try to cross the road.
Even with that, the course has some charm and plenty of difficulty. One area of improvement that they should consider is how the course is set up on the weekends. My group played from the blue tees(6247 yards). 15 of the blue tees were set up right next to the black tees(over 6700 yards). This coupled with the course being extremely wet, made the course play 7000+ yards. On weekends, always shorten the course for faster play, especially when it is wet. (I asked my foursome to move up to the white tees(5750 yards) but they refused) Pin setup was very fair with no tucked pins, which is great for weekend play. Our round took 4 1/2 hours, but a lot of that had to do with cart paths only, due to the rainstorm that morning. I would play again and would love to see money poured into this interesting course.

Course will not call me back to cancel a tee time

As the title says, I've called the course 3 times in 24 hours (starting just minutes after I booked) and was told to call GolfNow, who tells you to cancel on the site. I've tried emailing to no avail and yet the charged me for the tee times even though the site says that it wont charge you a card is only needed for holding the reservation. Since I booked through locust valleys website as a guest there is no way for me to cancel. Promised a call back 2 times from the people who answer the phones and have not gotten one yet. I just want to cancel the darn reservation that's all, I'm sure that a Sunday morning tee time will be resold.

course was in decent shape and has some nice holes, but the club house and on course restrooms were absolutely disgusting. Don't think they have been cleaned in ages. Requested a separate cart for my playing partner considering the virus and some pre-existing health conditions , but the starter was rude and finally said fine but made us pay him cash which he just pocketed. Would play another course next time

Overall Experience

Have a starter or don’t let douchebags play that think their on the PGA Tour at 4:30pm on a work week. We go out to have fun not be harassed. Pace of play was slow because of people in front of us.

Dog track

Wow. Dog track!! The people who think this is a good golf course must not get out much. The greens were bumpy and rolled at about a 7! Plus it was a long round. I will never go back.
