About
Carolina National Golf Club boasts a 27-hole layout designed by Fred Couples. Situated along the banks of the Lockwood Folly River, the course encapsulated the beauty of the low country. The holes are divided into three nines that are named after the birds that can be seen throughout the course: Egret, Heron, and Ibis. Couples placed an emphasis on preserving the rich natural landscape and wildlife, earning the golf course designation as an Audubon Sanctuary. They each have unique designs but they all have challenging greens that are some of the best in the area. The Egret nine will reward long, strong drives. This and the Heron nine are home to the six holes that play along the river. These are some of the most visually stunning holes. Carolina National Golf Club's three nines provide three different 18-hole combinations.

Good but...work to be done
I brought 2 friends and my brother who lives in St. James to play at Carolina National. Great course, good people, etc. Very nice practice facility. Greens were hard and fast, well taken care of. Pace was pretty good and the fairways were nice though there were a few wet areas. Bunkers were in awful shape and need lots of work. I was surprised that very little had been done to them and it had not rained in several days. The rough was a bit high and made finding balls there a bit of a hassle and time consuming as the ball would disappear. They could easily have cut it down a bit and still be penalizing but the top of the ball could show.

long day
It seems the starter staff is huge on controlling the flow, but we ended up spending 5.5 hours. poor management of start times. they all mean well, and this stuff isn
t the end of the world but if the starting staff was a little less authoritarian, our attitude would be different.

enjoyed the round
great deal thru golf now and enjoyed my time. thank God it was wet... the greens are FAST! Service was ok, seems staff has to warm up to you before friendly. all in all. very good/very playable course.

Hot conditions
Course was in great condition. Best on the Grand Strand of the dozen I have played this summer. Incredibly hot that day and no water on course and no cart service. Only minus on a terrific day. Service top notch.

It’s a decent course for the $
The greens are consistently inconsistent. Seems like they aerate ever other week!
The sand traps have virtually no sand.
Layout is nice and fairways decent.

Ok for the money
Staff was super friendly and nice. Didn’t seem super busy and tee times were spaced out nicely. The greens were covered in a top dressing but still seemed to roll ok. Fairways were pretty good - bunkers were all washed out from a previous rain fall. Overall it was worth the money to play. Thanks and I would play it again.
