A Fun Course
Pheasant Ridge is a fun course. A variety in hills, dog-legs, short and long holes. It is a beautiful course with nice trees surrounding the holes and fairways.
NOT great, but not bad either.
Golf cart looked like it had not been cleaned in many years- caked dirt on floor, etc. - The greens were in pretty good shape - above average for public coarse. But fairways were below average and the tee areas were terrible. Too many blind shots - not only blind tee shots on a dogleg, but several approach shots to the green were blind due to large elevation changes. With all the blind shots - balls were all over - you can't find a ball if you cant even see where in went into the rough or woods. A short coarse that is challenging due to narrow fairways, many blind shots, multi-teared greens. Holes run parallel to each other with not enough space between ( and that space is hard pan under sparse trees) holes so errant shots bounce thru from one hole to the other possibly hitting someone. I liked the GPS on the carts.
Tight course
Found this course by accident! What a cool accident! Tight fairways, elevated greens and multiple tee boxes will challenge all forms of golfers! Staff was very helpful with a tip book we used as the bible to this well kept gem!
Slow
I tried this course because they advertised best greens in the area. I am not sure what was slower the pace of play or the greens.I have played a variety of courses and these are not even close to best greens in the area. Pace of play was very slow. They took my money and when I made the turn I ran right into the middle of a league. A warning would of been nice. Course is short and very hilly with a bunch of blind shots. I definitely will not be making another visit to this place. If you do give it a try prepare for a long day on slow greens that are not true. Good luck.
POOR CONDITION POOR MANAGEMENT
This course is not worth the time(min 5+ hrs min) or the over priced green fees. The greens are slow and roll inconsistent. The pins are in the same place every Monday. The greens need to be rolled on a far more frequent schedule. The bunkers are horrid some have little to no sand and others are filled with sand. They say they made upgrades by adding new paths. That upgrade is for their own benefit to save the wear and tear on THEIR carts. this has no effect for the playablity of the course. The management could care less about the regular league customers who are there on a weekly basis. I think this falls directly on the owner. He would rather overbook and throw groups into middle of leagues to maximize revenue at the expense of loyal customers. One would think if you are going to close a course for whatever reason you would contact those who have tee times. In summary this is an overpriced course with less than ideal conditions and is ran by people who could care less what happens to you on the course after they already have your money.
Decent layout poorly managed
I play golf 3times a week for the last 30 years. The condition of the greens are inconsistent at best and are nowhere near their claim of best in the area. I play in a league at PR every Monday in a 24 man league. You would think that as a regular customers we w ould be treated with respect. They put groups out in the moddle of our league on a regular basis. The greens are poor at best and the pins and tees are in the same spot every Monday. They do not have any staff there and there are times when only one person is running the whole place. I have never seen a ranger on course. The new owners view this as an absentee business in my opinion something like a redbox where you get a movie. I strongly advise against this place if you want to be treated to a quality golf expeeience. The course is what it is a short hilly course. I can deal with that but I can't deal with a management team that treats its regulars the way they do. I can only assume that they really don't care about or take for granted the 800-$1000 dollars a week that my league spends there on a weekly basis. So if that's the case how do you think they view the average foursome.
I suggest that you do not play this course and choose one of the many other options in the area.
slow Saturday
I know it's Saturday in the summer,
but 6 hours to play 18 holes is just no fun.
Great Option in the North Hills
Pheasant Ridge has come a long way over the years. Condition wise, its a step above comparable courses in the area. Greens are not extremely fast, but are very smooth and roll true. At times are very undulating.
Tees are a little rough, they would benefit from making the "daily tee position" smaller so they can control tee wear and tear more.
Bunkers are well placed and maintained better than most in the area.
Pace of play has been tough this year. Its a good problem to have, people are coming out to play, and that's a good thing! But they seem to be lax on pace of play a little. Full disclosure here, I mostly play in the afternoon, so things might be different on weekend mornings, but I have yet to encounter a starter this year, and I've never seen a ranger. people kind of line up on the first tee and manage themselves. Unfortunately, the first hole is a blind tee shot, so someone from each group has to drive up to make sure the fairway is clear. This is something a starter could do. 5 hr rounds have been the norm this year. Luckily I personally don't mind that much because golf for me is an escape for me and I really don't mind being out there! But I feel Pace of Play is a problem that is easily fixed, and the staff here doesn't seem to be real proactive. Probably the result of under staffing. I made the turn one Friday and encountered a 6-some on the first tee, which is inexcusable!
For the money, you are getting much more value here when compared to other courses in the area. Prices are fair and there are plenty of deals available through the courses own tee time site and via emails. And thankfully, they gave GolfNow.com the boot this year! The staff is very nice/helpful/welcoming, which is also an improvement from previous years.
Definitely what I would call my "home course" and I really enjoy playing here. I write what I write in hopes that the course will continue to improve.
Hidden jewel in great shape
Played on a beautiful Tuesday am. The greens and fairways were in great shape. Could have been better if there was a cart girl and better driving range but the course layout and elevation changes made this fun to play for a group of southern boys.
Fathers day
Holiday made the course very busy and slowed pace. It was good to see so many kids out with their fathers. The course was excellent. Seemed to mix things up making Club selection key on some hole's and others still room to rip. 2 types of greens as well smaller target and then lg welcoming but undulating. Beautiful trees and ponds line the course.
Staff and the members that we met could not have been nicer. This will definitely be a course I visit again.
pretty to look at, challenging & super friendly staff!!
It checks off most every box for me:
pretty to look at, challenging & super friendly staff!! Also very reasonably priced. Will definitely try to make it back even though 3.5 hrs away!!
The course is in Great Shape
The golf course is in great shape. The greens were smooth & fast. I had a great day on this course. The place was packed, but we only had to wait a little to start the round and on a couple of Par 3's. The staff was very pleasant. Overall I had a lot of fun, the course is challenging and I would play here again.
Nice course...pace of play slow
5 hour round on Sunday afternoon...granted this was the first really nice day of spring, but play time was tedious.
12 Holes have Blind Shots!
Fist off, the staff was excellent. Very nice people in the pro shop and the Marshall was great. The golf course was in good condition for March, for sure. However, this golf course has more blind shots, due to elevation changes, than anything I've ever played around the world. There was only divot holes on the range to hit from and the range is "irons only" and the balls were brutal. I would not play there again only because I'm not a big fan of surprises in golf, even after seeing it once. However, if you enjoy "adventure" golf this place is for you. Again, staff couldn't have been nicer.
March Golf
Pheasy Ridge is always a good time.
Fall golf
Course was in very good condition. Leaves were not a big factor given the time of year. Surprisingly for November, the pace of play was too slow. A ranger could have helped. We were a two-some, and the four ladies in front of us were slow, and never offered to let us play through, or pick up their speed. The yardages on the tee's differed from those on the card on par three holes.
Nice course
Nice course. Played it late in the year. Only problem was that the clubhouse was closed at the turn. We got to the turn at 1:30 and couldn't get in to buy anything to drink or eat. There was a sign that said take a cart key and pay later. The course was in good shape but would have been nice to be able to get a hotdogs and go to the bathroom at the turn
Stebby - We are so sorry to hear that our clubhouse wasn't open during your visit at our course. We will pass this information along and see what we can do about extending the hours of the clubhouse. Thank you for taking the time to write a review and we hope to have you play our course again in the future!
