Best public greens in Pittsburgh area
I returned to Pheasant Ridge on a Friday afternoon for the first time this year after playing it many times last season. It played like it did mid season last year the greens were beautiful and rolled true, fairways were somewhat narrow and I really enjoyed the challenge. This course is in better condition than the other ones I've seen in the area (I thought that all last year). Price is right, Pheasant Ridge is a great value.
The course was well maintained, considering the time of year
The first nine holes were challenging and course was well cleared, the back nine got a little dicey because of a wind shift put a lot of leaves in fairways.
Course In Great Condition
The course is in excellent condition, some leaves between holes but with the amount of trees they are doing a god good of keeping the fairways, tee boxes and greens clear. The greens are very difficult and well maintained.
Nice little track.
Decent little track. Seemed like a lot of irons and fairway woods off of the teeboxes, but we all play the game differently.
Meh
Maintained very well from fairways to greens. No large ball marks, challenging undulated greens with nice bar and friendly staff that welcome a hang out after your round to relax wach tv and have a few beverages. Brand new golf carts with a unique layout and decently groomed sand traps that are actually playable. I would never pay their full price of $45 but a great deal at $30. Great place to call a home course.
One of my favorites
In my estimation, still the most challenging and one of the best maintained courses in the north hills. Cart paths could use some work.
Fun
I really like this course, greens in very nice condition and the fairways are solid. Very challenging but nothing that would change your day.
A senseless cancelation notice
I've experienced a thoughtless cancelation notice. The manager, or the person who works there, called me about two hours before my tee time and said that "You can't play today since there is an event (or party... whatever) in the course". What a senseless and preposterous notice at the very last minute! The manager should have called me to notify the event at least 24 hours, which normal people do.
We, me and my friend, had to find another golf course to play in about 30 minutes.
Any people who want to play the course should be aware that you might get a call of a senseless cancelation notice just before your tee time.
Great challenging course so close to downtown
Enjoyed the round, would play another round again in a heartbeat. sweet multi-level greens, alittle tight which adds to the difficulty. Snack stand leaves a lot to be desired, hot dogs or processed sauage, both were cold when coming in the turn around 12?? Next time I will just eat before i arrive. Golf Course is one of best public courses in the North Pgh area!!
Pheasant Rige a great course for a great value
My foursome played early on Labor Day moring (7:14) and all felt that the course was in the best shape it has ever been. The greens are in fantastic shape smooth and rolling at a great speed. Fairwarys and tee boxes were in great shape, too. Sand traps were in descent shape for as much rain that fell over the past weekend. We played in a little over 4 hours. Could have played as fast as we wanted to, did not wait on any holes and did not hold anyone up. I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a challenging course, that has a unique layout, and in great condition.
Target golf
Pretty standard Pittsburgh public course. Major elevation changes and a lot of hills, I probably had ten even-stance shots all day. Course was in decent shape, bogged down by some recent rain. One thing I noticed was on some greens (especially two that I remember), there were some RIDICULOUS slopes on the green. Anybody who ever played here will probably know what I'm talking about. Almost impossible to keep it on the green for those.
Course seemed to have only 1 guy working the entire course today. He did bartender service and was the starter as well. He was very nice, but they do need a ranger to keep things moving out there. Overall, decent track but not sure it's worth what they're charging
great par 3's
The course was fairly busy and played about a four hour round. The layout was done very well with taking the terrain into consideration. Liked the par 3's very challenging and scenic. Greens were a little slow but forgiving as well. Not a lot of break. The track is not overly long so fairway placement is key so it is not a bad idea to leave the driver in the bag on a few holes.
horrible pace
paid for 18, took 2 hours and 40 mins to play 9 holes. was ridiculously slow! left after 9 holes
Great deal for the money
Beautiful day- well maintained- very friendly staff. Some challenging holes but mostly a fair course for women. Will go back again
Worth a Vist
Pheasant Ridge is nice little layout. Club personnel are pleasant and efficient. The course layout is fun, fair and affords multiple scoring opportunities. Built into and surrounded by woodlands, fairways are wide, greens are sizable, average in speed in very good condition. Some complain the mix of old and new holes is evident and inconsistent however I find no merit or shortfall in the design. Only note of pause- first four holes are short and tee shots are blind, causing slow pace and the clubhouse permits nine-holers to jump in front of players making the turn. Nonetheless, good track for new, old and juniors.
Great course
Even after all the rain course was in great shape. Bunkers had water in them but they were in the process of draining them which is understandable. Staff is awsome. Greens are immaculate. Price is worth it.
Great course
Great course the only problem is it should be a par 70 with two of the par fives becoming par fours especially 13 and 16. Outside the scorecard flaws the course was in fantastic shape and a great value.
Golf
The course was great. In great condition well taken care of. The pace of play though was rough. To many people at once on the 1st hole. Took 5hrs to play 18. But overall it was a great time.

Good value
This course has a nice layout and is in good condition. The special offers on tee times provide good value.
Here are my few tips for improvement to become a premier public:
Clubhouse needs spiffed up a bit
Cart paths need paved in spots
A food menu would really help
Golf store would be a nice touch
Limit number of completely inexperienced players on course. There are quite a few, just ask that they play less premium times.
Overall- nice track, keep up the good work
Course is a nice challenge.
Played the course after 4PM. Greens were still in great shape and rolled true. Course is very challenging, not wide open and must hit ball fairly straight to have a good chance to score. Very scenic course with lots of trees. Staff are very nice and friendly. I would recommend Pheasant Ridge to everybody !!!!!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to give our course such an amazing review! We take a lot of pride in our course and are so glad you enjoyed it so much! we look forward to see you more this season!
