The undulations on #13 green! Photo submitted by rpkelly55 on 07/19/2018
Real Gem
I love this course. Only wish it didn't take an hour plus tolls to get here. Each hole has character. It is a rare hole that allows you to simply get lucky and run/roll the ball up and onto the green from the fairway. Slightly errant approach shots will get you into trouble. Traps, woods, waste areas and water place a premium on shot-making.
And then, you still have to contend with the undulating greens. They are tricky to read and are deadly if they are running fast.
I would never want to be a member of just one club to the exclusion of others, but this is one course that I would consider because it plays so differently each day depending on the pin locations. One would not get easily bored playing it multiple times a week/month.
Course in great shape
As usual, the course was in great shape. Greens well maintained, fair and cut appropriate. Even fairways were pretty good considering the drought conditions. I think the threat of storms scared off some folks so 2 of us in a cart got through in 3 hours. We did skip 8 and 9 to bypass a couple slower groups and then played them at the end. Would not usually expect to do this. Staff were friendly and efficient.
Great time
My wife and I intended to play 9 but we were teamed up with a father and son who were sooo cool we played 18 The Marshall was very visible throughout the round ! Nice job guys we play here 3 x. Year. Ed R
Nice course as always
Nice course and challenging. Only problem is there is always a consistent back up on hole 10, 11 and 12. Need to figure it out. Saw a Ranger but he was kind of doing nothing. I’ve seen this many times. Otherwise course in great shape. Starter fabulous. Class notch place! Highly recommend
Always good to Play
Love the course and layout. Greens are good but some are a little too much like a miniature golf trek. Overall I always enjoy playing!
Beware of mismanaged tee times
Had a 3:20 tee time on GN. Arrived at 1:30 while returning from a trip to MD back th north west NJ. Told by starter we had to wait because there was a men's group that plays every Wed evening. Waited the almost hour and a half to tee off while 2 or 3 people (not groups, individuals) teed off on 1. The whole time I'm thinking, why don't they just let us go and then we'll be free and clear of the men's league? Well, played the front 9 in about an hour and 40 minutes with 2 other locals that joined us only to see a group of about 30 golfers waiting to tee off on 10! Spoke to a new starter who assured us that we have the right of way and the men's league will step aside and let us go. Hmmm, that's not what the men's league was told by the original starter (Dennis) who was now playing in the men's league right in front of us! After some tense minutes with 1 starter talking to the other, our group (now a 3-some since one of the local guys playing with us saw the mess on 10 and said "later for this" and went home) we were allowed to tee off. The awesome layout of the course, the great conditions, the fantastic amenities at the club and my better than handicap 4 over par all were tarnished by the course management in regards with tee times. I won't be back and I won't recommend. Locals probably know the drill when it comes to booking tee times, but clearly there's a lack of communication between the course and Golf Now.
Better practice with your Putter first
Course was in great shape. Fun course to play if you can control your drive. Fair bunkers and pin placement. There's a chance to score on every hole if you can putt. If you can't putt it's going to be a long miserable day because the greens are slippery as ice and very rolly polly. To describe them as saddle shaped is not fair to saddles. More double breakers from 10 ft then I've seen since watching the US Open. Greens are almost punitive. Overall enjoyed the round because of the great views, great course layout, and excellent condition.
Bucks
Interesting course with elevation changes and a mix of open and some tight holes. There were a couple blind tee shots and some tricky greens with break. The course was well kept and the traps had good sand. Some very scenic holes. Pace was just under 4 hours on a busy weekday afternoon.
Challenging course
We played on a recent Thursday morning. Overall the course is in good to very good condition. There are many challenging holes with a variety of hazards and varying slopes. The greens were often very fast, making putting a little difficult.
Some of the tee boxes could use a little attention, but most were usable. Bunkers were in good shape, despite a recent rainfall. The rough on some holes can make looking for a ball a challenge.
The practice area could use an update, but it was fine for a pre-round warm-up.
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. There is a really nice bar restaurant with reasonably priced drinks and food. I would definitely recommend this course to golfers of all skill levels. I will certainly be returning as soon as possible.
