Very solid course, nothing particularly extraordinary

It is a nice course that will challenge you to make strategic shots in order to score well. The rough was insanely long and difficult when I most recently played here, and I was struggling to hit fairways, so all day was a bit of a scrambling battle for me. The layout is solid, but nothing spectacular. Would definitely recommend playing if you are able to get out.

I pLayed this course in the Fall and found it to be delightful. The Pro Shop explained to me that the greens were not as fast as normal due to the heavy rains most of the season. I was aware of this as I heard the same story at other Lancaster courses I played over the summer. The course was very challenging and the greens, although a little on the slow side, were all consistent and rolled very well. The members and staff could not have been nicer. I was a guest of a member and everyone was welcoming and treated me as if I were a member myself. I am going to try it again this Spring and most likely will join this club. Great experience!

This golf course has the type character and challenges you could play every day.

I saw the previous review a wondered what course did this person play? My experience was totally positive. The course is laid out with all the variety and challenges you expect. The Little Conestoga Creek that runs through the whole course is a great amenity. The course crosses the Creek fives times. The greens were in very good shape considering all the rain that had fallen. The Staff was very friendly and helpful as well. I could play this course every day and would recommend it highly. Maybe if the golfer ?? (25+ handicap playing once a week) writing the previous review had broken 90 his opinion would be different.

Unpleasant experience

The part that is totally on me is that no parts of my game were working at all well that day. I always get excited to play a country club and this one based on long standing reputation in the area was no exception.
They say you only get one chance to make a first impression. When one goes to a country club, I believe that it is appropriate to expect a certain level of service and amenities.
There was no one coming to retrieve bags from cars and load them onto carts for tip or otherwise. We pulled in and it was a ghost town outside and the weather was not bad nor ominous. The place looked run down in some respects and things were not well marked.
The guy behind the counter taking the money was anything but friendly and was barely civil when I attempted conversation. The place was disorganized, not neat and did not appear to be well run/managed. Kids were practicing putting inside and one was not watching what he was doing and was banging into sale merchandise with his putter. He was only reprimanded by the associate instead of being counseled up front to not do that inside or at least not while paying customers were right nearby. It did not matter if a kids camp was there that day (we saw two kids there). The young guy at the bar was very pleasant and accommodating. My playing partner said the other staff and especially the members were very congenial and I did not get exposure to that like he did to be fair.
I had heard great things about the quality of their greens and found them to not be to the standard nor speed of a couple public courses that lead the region in those areas. It was surprising to see so many unfixed ball marks on the greens and that they were largely inconsistent throughout the course in terms of speed.
The greatest issue was the lack of variation in the course layout. It had an absurd number of doglegs (something I used to enjoy a lot before playing this course). Almost all par 4s were dogleg rights. One or two dogleg lefts and side from the straight par 3s and at least one straight par 5s (which there were too few of) it felt like all the holes were dogleg right. It was terribly excessive, unimaginative and in clear need of renovation in terms of the layout. I do not enjoy courses that are just up and back and I did not expect that extreme either. Balance is best in most things and course layout is no exception. There was no feel of a signature hole to me and there was nothing remarkable in the design nor the quality of execution in any aspect of the course. I have played other country club courses that tore me up worse than this place and I can still appreciate the strengths and challenges of other places. This is a shame as I normally love very old, traditional course. I am sad to say it was utter disappointment and I will not return.
