Solid Course
Solid course with friendly staff. Even on a weekday holiday pace of play was about 4.5 hours. Some of the fairways are narrow and you have to keep your head on a swivel with lots of proximate fairways.
unfriendly and slow
The starter was rude and seemed to be in a bad mood. The pace of play was absolutely horrible. I understand old guys wanna play too but the ranger needs to intervene and allow the faster groups to play through.
A real treat
A beautiful old style golf course. A real treat to play. This is a must play golf course if you are in the Hershey area. The food and service at the Caddy Shack restaurant was excellent.
Nice local course
Course was well monitored for pace of play, Our round took just under 4 hours, Very open course and easy to find out of bounds balls, No deep woods or tall grass. Overall in good shape except for the greens as ball was jumping all over due to pieces of small debris for tress ans aeration holes. I suspect that will improve later into the season.
Armitage Golf Course
Paid for one player, got paired in a 4some which is fine and understandable. The guy that rode in the cart with me was really nice and a great golfer. So it made it enjoyable. The couple that we were paired with were an elderly couple. So we hit from the white tees and they hit from the red. No biggie. But the elderly couple couldn’t really hit more than 100 yards if they were lucky so we had to wait and let them hit about 5 times to our 1. So it made for a very slow pace. The course was laid out fairly decent. They must of just aerated the greens which made for bounces and balls kicking left or right. But overall a pretty decent course. Looking forward to going back with a group that can play and when the greens are nicer
Slow pace and greens were recently punched
Greens were terrible. Pace of play was atrocious. 4 ladies were in front of us and they had a child with them. No ranger there to help pace of play.
Nice layout but that’s it
Pace of play was horrible, greens seem constantly aerated whenever you’re there, starter was very rude. Had a designated tee time and the back 9 starter wouldn’t let us tee off the back despite both the pro shop and front 9 starter telling us we were off the back. Very rude old guy who said “Go off the front or don’t play” despite three groups waiting to tee off on the front and one group on hole 10 tee box and nobody on the green on hole 9. Ended up being forced off the front 20mins after our tee time, behind two painfully slow groups. Pace of play was about 20mins a hole and waiting 5mins after every shot.
Armitage is What It Is
Staff is great! Very accommodating. The cost to play is low. The main issue on Armitage is course design, or lack there of.
It appears they just put in 18 holes on an existing hilly plot of land with little thought on whether it resulted in a good golf hole. So you’ve got some par 4 and 5 holes that have fairways with so much slope they can’t be held. Similarly, greens that have so much slope they can’t be held, even with the most skill full of shots.
I’m one who is generally up for a challenge. But there is a difference between a challenging design and a poor design that creates unfair challenges and this course has a few holes that cross that line.
