Sylvan Heights Golf Course
About
Opened in 1925, Sylvan Heights Golf Course is one of the oldest municipal courses in Pennsylvania. Over the years, the course has hosted a number of well known names, including Arnold Palmer who played in the West Penn Amateur at Sylvan Heights in 1948. The golf course underwent a major renovation in 1998 but its classic features were kept in tact. The golf course was made more challenging with the addition of sand traps and also more playable with the restructuring of the men's and women's tees. Throughout the years, golfers have all enjoyed the same stunning views of the surrounding hills, framed by the shady canopies of mature trees. Sylvan Heights has garnered a loyal following over the years. It's the local favorite for an affordable round.

Ohio still better choice
We preferred to spend our money in Pa but can’t use bathrooms to wash your hands, no pencils or scorecards. Frustrating but did enjoy getting out for 18
Best Pro Shop
Greens are smaller then i remember years ago but they were fast and true. I can see why this is voted the best Pro Shop in Western Pa. Great buys on balls, hats and shirts. I was able to pick up a few fitted hats for $ 20, these hats are $ 35 at other shops.
Best Pro Shop
The green are not big but, I haven't played on any better greens. The Pro Shop is excellent. I spent a lot of money in the Pro Shop, I bought a few Titleist fitted hats for $ 20 each, Antigua shirts for $ 25 and I purchased some balls and a few gloves
very nice course
Excellent course for the money and very nice set up. Pro shop has amazing deals and staff could not be friendlier.
Good place for a quick 9
This is a decent course for being municple run. Plays fairly wide open but greens are relatively small. There are a few low spots that get soggy after rain where your ball will plug. But as the review title states, this is a fun course to get a quick 9 in on the evenings. The back half ends with two par 5s, downhill par 3, short par 4 with green front lake, and an uphill par 3 that allows for some low scores to end the round.
Course layout
Like the course layout except signs weren't very well posted on some holes
Great deal for the money!
The course is in good shape. The greens are rolling true and relatively fast. The Red Hot Deal is the best you can find on Golfnow.com. Bring some cash and spend it in the small proshop.
Thought course was great for the money.
Thought this course was good. Actually we played the week before also and both my husband and myself really liked the course. Would recommend this golf course and GolfNow to my family and friends
Below average course
Value of this course depends on how far you have to travel. It's about an hour for me and I would not make the trip again. This was the second time I played the course and it was only because of the $12 hot deal time. Many areas of the course need a lot of attention. Some of the fairways were like hitting off of concrete. On some areas of the course the layout is confusfing and poorly marked. Also the cclubhouse conditions are deplorable. Unless you're looking for a cheap round, I would not recommend this place.
I always have fun!
Greens have good speed and roll true. Some good long holes. Can tell it gets played a bunch but why not?
beginner course
rough was short and fairways long. not much different. staff was friendly. great course for beginner or novice golfer. tee boxes were fairly good. don't expect a big challenge or pristine conditions.
greens were in fairly good shape. not great, but no need to complain, for the cost
Couse is in way better condition compared to several years ago.
Enjoyable to play. Would definitely play again. Only issue is that a twosome that was just starting was on the #10 tee as we finished #9. But they let us play through.
Nothing good to say about this course
The tee boxes were bare and lumpy, tough to get a good stance. The fairways were ok but at least 3 different types of grass, plus crab grass, growing 3 different ways made for some tough lies. The greens would not hold an approach shot very hard to get close to the pin, and when we tried to play short and let it run up to the pin the fringe and apron was so thick and soft that the ball would just hit and stick. The greens were filled with ball marks and putted remarkable slow considering we could not keep an approach on the green, but they did roll true if you were able to miss a ball mark on the way to the hole.
Great value, friendly staff
Long open fairways, great for beginner's to intermediate. Staff was very friendly, we plan to return regularly,
A great course for the price.
The course is good for the price. The greens are well maintained. The fairways are not too bad either.
The course has great greens. Pace of play is good.
Great value for the cost. Greens are the best public greens around Western Pennsylvania. Pro Shop has great prices on golf balls and equipment. Pro Shop has Taylor Made and Titleist demo clubs to hit. Certified Taylor Made fitter.
