This course is so much fun to play. Great layout, challenging but not too hard. The changes that were made have really made this course enjoyable to play.
Great remodel
Great conditions and a great layout if you don't like this course you need to quit playing the game
Great Course
Course was in great shape tee to green. Greens were very fast. Pace of play was very good. 3.5 hours.
Tanglewood Championship
Loved checking out the old scorecards from the past champions tour tournaments. Arnold Palmer, Hale Irwin, Gary Player...etc. Lee Trevino won the 1974 PGA Championship here. If you like that kind of stuff it’ll put you in the right mood to play your best. The course was fun and greens were very good. Unfortunately doubled the last or would have hit 79....pretty good for me but the course doesn’t play super hard anymore. I imagine if you are a long knocker it’d challenge you from the back tees. Looked pretty long back there.
Have fun!
Maybe the best deal ever!
The Championship Course at Tanglewood is one of the toughest challenges I’ve ever played. During the reno a year or two ago, they made it a bit more forgiving, but they put those good Bermuda putting surfaces in and it is simply hard to beat! The price is as reasonable as it could possibly be. Quite frankly, other courses in they area should be ashamed for charging similar fees with such less to offer (not including Oak Valley... another gem, but with Bent grass greens). The only issue is that it has always gotten a lot of play which means a lot of common folks who don’t rake traps, fix ball marks, and are likely to eat sunflower seeds and spit shells on the greens (not yesterday, but in general... C’MON MAN!). They should stick to the Reynolds Course, or other local municipal locations. Either way, I highly recommend Tanglewood’s Championship Course!
Interesting layout
Most people know this was the course for a PGA championship back in the 70's. The course is in very good condition. The holes are either long and difficult or short and tricky. A fun course to play, a great value, but kind of a hodge podge of holes with no real flow or course character.
loved loved loved this course
First time playing it and was thrilled to see the fantastic layout, greens designs, lakes, white sand traps, and beautiful tree lined fairways.
Incredible Value
I played the Championship course as part of a 36 hole day with the Reynolds course and was very pleased with it. Really not a weak hole, greens were very quick and true and although tees could use some work it was playable. The history of this place and the price paid make it a can't miss for golfers looking to play in the Winston Salem region.
Championship layout -
Great holes And layout No where near a PGA championship conditioned course but the holes are fun Greens were sanded when I played so that took away from it but overall-its a nice course. Fairways were mediocre and bunkers were nice and newly redone. It’s a great course that just need some a little more $ and tlc
Much improved
Great job, beautiful course, with lightning fast greens and so many sand traps. A real challenge.
Perfect Greens
The greens are perfect and fast but fair. Fairways are in good shape but there were some rough, clumpy spots off out the fairways. Overall just a fantastic value to play on a top notch golf course.
That said, the white stakes between 14 and 15 is bush league. While I do understand the goal to keep people from playing in adjoining fairways, out of bounds isn't the way to do it. Either redesign the holes or plant trees to keep people in their own fairway, but oob stakes is not the way to fix a design flaw on a layout.
The Championship Course.
The new greens are smooth and the fairways are in very good condition. Overall.the course is in very good condition.
no real reason
ground was hard as concrete yet carts on path only. I wont be going back there are too many good courses in the area that are not so unfair to the paying customer.
generally on lazy entitled people complain about cart path only.
I traveled from Ohio and played the course in July and I agree entirely with your comments--it is an incredible value.
