Aerated but very playable
This is a great course, I got a discounted rate because of the aeration of the greens, but I was looking to work on my driving and irons so was perfect. Course has a great layout with everything in front of you, but is still challenging. Great placement of bunkers and traps adds to the challenge. Birdie opportunities and many risk reward shots. I played by myself midweek, midday and finished in 3 hours! And that was with being cart path only and 15 minutes for a dog at the turn! Perfect day!
Bunkers are horrible
The bunkers on the course are horrible!! Pretty much no sand! Only dirt, mud, and rocks!
I didnt even bother to try hitting out of them. Just set the ball to the nearest refief to avoid unnecessary frustration.
Other than that the course is ok.
Course
Bunkers really bad but everything else is awesome! I hate goat tracks but this place held the 1974 PGA championship and it still looks awesome! Greens and fairways are awesome! Will play again
Great course. Tons of sand. Would like to have seen people fix their divots on the greens. Got to see about 12 deer while on the course. Played for $20 per person. Can't beat that for a former championship course.
Practice your bunker shots
Plenty of opportunity on this course- would rather have sand than water. Would like it better if there were a few range balls to practice before you tee off. Not sure why so stingy about that? Lovely course. Enjoyed playing and will play again.
Not perfect
The greens has some unwelcome sprigs of grass that could affect the roll of your putt and of course unrepaired ball marks but still played fairly well. The bunkers are still the same as always and I prefer them to what most other golfers like. Deep heavy or fluffy sand is difficult for me to control so I like these even if they were a little crusty in places. Fairways and greens mean good scoring opportunities but the rough was rough.
Great Value
Great layout, several sets of tees for all levels of player. Bunkers were rough earlier in the summer, but are significantly better now. Greens are slow but have been consistently so all summer. Only real complaint is that the golf now app shows the par from the white tees incorrectly as 74, instead if the correct 70.
Tired & Neglected
Range horrible! cow patch, no grass, flag laying down on range. Bunkers not raked in days, many with debris, most were clay hard as a rock. Trees were overgrown in shot sight lines. Tee Markers had not been painted all year, difficult to tell blue from white. Greens were full of ball marks and not mowed. Played on Monday, cups not moved recently. Very disappointing to see the neglect of this once a jewel. Course is tired, care givers are apathetic. Did not see a single person working on the course. Shame
Sand
Nice course and conditions. Tough to stay out of the sand, pretty much impossible to with the number of fairway and green side bunkers. If you struggle out of the sand then the course will frustrate you.
Tanglewood Park - Championship Course
Played the Championship Course at Tanglewood Park yesterday. The two courses at Tanglewood are part of a huge municipal park complex. Each car entering the park must pay $2, so keep that in mind. The clubhouse is dated, but serviceable. Both the shop and outside staff were friendly and helpful. There was a delay in getting a cart as they were out of carts for the Championship course. The Champ course uses electric carts, while the Reynolds course uses gas carts.
There is a driving range, and large putting green that the two courses share.
The Championship course has hosted PGA Championships and USGA Public Links. That pedigree remains to this day, even if the course is no longer long enough for that type of competition. The main defense of the course are the bunkers. I counted 94 spread among the 18 holes. Fairway bunkers crowd fairways. Those, combined with quite a few doglegs make accuracy off the tee a must. Each and every green is ringed with between 3 and 5 bunkers. Running a shot up onto a green is not an option. Most of the greens are also elevated from the fairway. Accurate approach shots are also a must or else you will spend quite a bit of time in greenside bunkers. Water, in the form of ponds, comes into play on the 3rd, 5th, and 16th holes.
Course conditions were good overall. Tees, fairways, and rough are bermuda and were in great shape, as would be expected during this stretch of hot weather. There were a couple of large areas in the 14th fairway that were roped off for repair. The bermuda greens were medium speed. They suffered from a lack of repaired ball marks that caused some putts to wobble. The undulations in them were not too severe. The bunkers were filled with coarse sand that included lots of pebbles and rocks. A few of the bunkers still had puddles in them from recent rains. The differing levels of moisture in the sand made judging how the sand would react to a shot more difficult.
All in all the Champ course at Tanglewood is a great test of golf that requires accuracy off the tee and into the green. Avoiding the plethora of bunkers is a must.
Great course, very challenging
Played Tanglewood for the first time. Got paired up with some locals, which was nice. Course was in good condition, and is quite a challenge, with 4 par fours over 400 yards long. The only negative I have was some of the bunkers were needing attention. Other than that, a very enjoyable day.
Great day at tanglewood champions

Perfect Day in North Carolina
The 8 seniors from Pittsburgh came to Clemmons for the first time after going to Sanford NC for the last six years. Yes we will be back to Tanglewood. This course was great. Kitty in the club house made our experience easy. Our carts where ready for us. The first whole was breath taken and it only got better. Each hole was like looking at a picture. I won't forget it. Past reviews talk about there traps being in rough shape, not a big deal at all we just pulled our ball out and hit to keep the game going.
I ran the golf outing and the other seven guy's said to me. I could not have picked a better course.
Thank you Kitty and the rest of your staff for an experience I will never forget.
