Oak Lake Golf Course
About
Oak Lake Golf Course in New Kensington is one of the area's hidden gems. Though you may not have heard of it, this course is well worth a look. The par-71 layout sprawls across gently rolling terrain and boasts well maintained greens that provide excellent putting surfaces. The course starts off with a player-friendly front nine that is wide and inviting. Don't get too comfortable though because the back nine tightens up and becomes much more challenging. The bunkering is heavier on the back nine and there are also some subtle but tricky slopes. Your accuracy will be put to the test as will your course-management skills, but Oak Lake G.C. is not an overly punishing golf course. Players of all skill levels will be able to appreciate the course as well as the idyllic scenery.

Needs new ownership
Lost 4 balls in the fairway on the front 9.
How: terribly maintained overpriced garbage course.
Disappoints to say the least!
Pay attention to the small print when you book your tee times. Golf Now has changed their format. We were not the only ones to be surprised the cart wasn't included in the price of the round. However the lady at the cash register was understanding enough to give us a break. She also endured several angry patrons handling their complaints with customer satisfaction. Cudos to her.
The course, however, was not as great an ecperience. It was hard to tell where the rough ended and the fairways began The greens were not well manicured and the sand traps were hard and full of weeds.
Although we played well, the experience was disappointing.
The staff gets a B+, but the course gets a D.
This course has potential.
Solid layout. Could be maintained better. Tee boxes were patchy. Fairway grass was a little long and the bunkers had a lot of stones in them. I saw a lot of potential in the course though. If the grounds crew put a little bit more effort in this course could be really great.
Very good value for the money
Got a really good deal through golf now. The course was really nice, well maintained. The front nine is more open, and the back nine is narrower. We had a great day.
Quirky overall
The course featured patchy fairways, with areas where there grass was burned out. Very uneven fairways that seem as if the course barely moved any land when it was being constructed. Greens were in good condition, with many subtle breaks making putting a good challenge. Overall it was hard to stick a shot in both the fairways and greens, be prepared to play the roll after your ball lands. To sum it up, "Oaklake" is named drastically incorrectly, as the oak tree by the lake was dead with fallen branches around it, and the lake was more like a retention pond.
A must try, judge for yourself.
Need more golf ball washers and the ones that are there are not in a good location.
Course is rough
Played the front nine only last year and it was in decent shape. Played 18 holes this time and the course is in pretty bad shape overall. The sand traps are more like rock traps with very little sand in them. The overall condition of the course was disappointing. Not worth the $20.
Not a good experience
This course needs some help. The fairways seemed to be like rough where they weren't dried out. Sand bunkers were hard and had rocks in them everywhere. The greens were ok but that was about the only average part about the course. Not enough staff, the cook was also the bartender and running the register in the pro shop. Just overall not a good experience and will never plan on going to Oak lake again.
Greens are better than fair
Nice greens, but regular rates are high for this average course . Back nine has tight fairways but scenic. Some blind shots.
Had a great day on the course.
The weather was beautiful which added to the outing. The course was not crowded, so it was a very relaxing round of golf. The course was in good shape in spite of the recent wet conditions. The staff was very helpful.
great time
Yesterday my buddy and I went out about 2:45 and practically had the place to ourselves for a while. Probably that's nod good for the course's bottom line but it was good playing conditions .
short and wet
Pace of play was excellent. Course was very wet. I would have scored much better if I hadn't lost balls in the fairway due to plugging. I hadn't played here in years so I forgot about a lot of the quirks of the course. Some blind shots. I might be back, but I might not.
Excellent course!
This course is not new to me. Ive been playing it for a few years now. The staff is the friendliest around. The bar and food area is great. The course is just beautiful. It's not easy by any means. The front 9 is a little more open than the back 9. The back is very narrow and challenging. You must keep your ball in the fairway or good luck finding it. Definitely would recommend to any level golfer. I'll be going back for sure.
Enjoyable
Nice course. Pleasant experience. Will return. Its a well kept secret. Course in very nice shape.
Great greens
Basically a short course, but the greens made up for it.. have to hit the ball straight..Bunkers were better than some much more expensive courses..
Over priced for course
The front 9 is decent, pretty open and very hilly. The back 9 was very wooded and hilly as well, with tight fairways not leaving much room for error. The course conditions were great however the facilities were outdated. When we arrived there was no one there that was able to sell us beer, which isn't a huge deal but was a little annoying. The biggest annoyance with this course, was that the course design didn't make sense. If the hole wasn't a par 3 you couldn't see the green from not only your first shot but typically your second fairway shot as well. As mentioned it was very hilly typically leaving you with blind shots towards the green unless you were within 50 yards.
Well groomed
Lots of ups and downs. 40% of the holes are blind. rather open. a few of the holes are drivable if you are a long ball hitter. Well worth the money from Golf Now. Bill
Nice course for the price
First time playing Oak Lake, not a difficult course. Greens rolled very nice. All the par 3's are very fair off the tee. Some blind shots that you may have a hard time with if you never played here before like myself. Overall I was very satisfied with the course conditions and quality.
WOW
I have not played this course in years, and now I know why I stayed way. Please take a little pride in your golf course. The tee boxes are bad and the rock (sand) traps are worse. The greens where the best I've seen them. So why would you not clean up the rest of the course ??? Cut back some of the trees so you have a little fairer shot to the holes on the back nine. And who puts a green that runs away from a downhill pitch shot.
I tried the shot 3 times from less than 100 yards
hitting the front of the green 3 times and rolling the ball off the green without making a ball mark on the green.
