ehhhh.....
Old Course front nine actually has a few decent holes. Nothing is in great condition but the fairways were much improved this past season . Back nine is bland and uninspired for most of the holes but 16/17/18 is a nice close. Unfortunately they told me the old course was closed. Made me play karakung which is a trash heap. I made the tee time to play the old course. If I knew I would have had to play karakung I wouldn't have been there.......oh well. Old course is "charming" though.
Solid course
Very nice course. Challenging holes throughout the course. Greens are in great shape for this time of year. If the rough was maintained a little better, this course would be top notch. I will play here again.
Be aware
I can see that course condition has been improved a little especially greens, but it's a long way to go.. especially tee boxes aren't acceptable at all. Be aware of 3rd hole and 10th hole.. for 3rd hole, you need to leave the cart and has to go across the bridge to get to the green. I heard the stories where thieves come out from the hill area next to the carts and drive carts away to steal your valuables like clubs, wallets and phones you left on the cart. I would take cart keys and valuables with you to the green. for 10th hole, I heard incidents where people got hit by BB guns while they were putting.. I understand that there are apartment complex right next to the 10th green. It's not worth it to play there especially amount they charge for this "can be a great course" with terrible conditions..
Restored again and in great shape
I've played here for 20 years (to a 15). The 2nd and 4th holes on Olde Course are subject to flooding from the Creek and have at times been unplayable. But management has worked the last couple of years to restore them, and I've never seen it better. Greens are excellent and the layout, particularly on the back 9, is difficult and inspiring. There's no irrigation on the tees, of course, and this has been a dry summer. But fairways and greens are really better than ever that I can remember. If you've never seen it, or if you ever liked it before, it's well worth a visit.
Great greens... Tee boxes could use a little work
Except for tee boxes... This course is pretty good... Good old school design with a little work could be Great.
Rained Out By 14
Played on a Thursday afternoon with a friend of mine and started around 4:45. My buddy had never played 18 before, but there weren't many people around so we didn't slow anybody down or get in anyone's way. I took lessons here when I was a kid and haven't played here in 15 years or so even though I live down the street, and I was so impressed by the course conditions. Fairways were beautiful, rough was lush, and greens were generally good (although trickier than expected).
Unfortunately a nasty rain storm closed in quickly on 14 (right after I hit a great drive of course) so we weren't able to finish the round. I will definitely be back more often now that I know the maintenance has improved from the past!
Great shape for a muni. But way too long of a round
Starter didn't know how to do his job. Had a 852 tee time. Ended up being paired with an 830 and didn't tee off til 9. Had a foursome with two girls and two guys in front of us that didn't know how to keep pace of play. Saw the ranger numerous times and not once did he say a word to them when we had back ups on tee boxes.
Overall course is in great condition but pace of play is terrible. Get out early on weekends if you want to get done at a reasonable hour.
worth your time
The course was fun, golfnow paired us with two other players. Wasn't thrilled about that but they were nice guys. The course itself was in pretty good shape. Cobbs Creek really has potential to be something. Worth your time to shoot 18. I know I'll go back.
Surprisingly nice
I was very surprised that the course was in such good condition beings that it is a city course. This course is like Merion compared to FDR. I hope staff and golfers take care of it bc it beats going over to Jersey to golf!
Best Philly Public
First, get over your country club golf attitude, this is West Philly, then you can enjoy this course as one of the best layouts in the northeast. Great prices on-line or after peak hours. If you are upset about the rocks and dirt on the 3rd hole, and a few sandy t-boxes, hit it on the green and t up 5 yards back or get over it.
This course is tricky but just the right distance to not make you want to blow it up.
fast greens~fair conditions~nice variety
Go with low expectations and you won't be disappointed....20$ to ride 18 friday @ 11:30 was good deal but would not pay more. condition and speed of the greens was the attraction as well as the variety from hole to hole.....tee boxes were spotty as were the fairways. could use more yardage markers since everyone does not carry a rangefinder. If you find yourself there DO NOT play karakung to save a few bucks....play Olde course. After the round Pica's restaurant is a few minutes away on rt. 3.....Pizza and a draught beer or three will complete your day properly.
Pleasantly suprised
Great layout.. Nice greens and fairways.. Tee boxes could use some help..of all the city courses this is the one they should dump money in ...fun day out with a lot of cool holes ,no two holes the same...cool
course to play if it's good shape
plush greens chappy tee boxes
Course is in great shape compared to recent years. Greens are hard as a rock and quick. The only downfall of this course is the tee boxes are a mess. Course receives to much play without rotating tee boxes.
5 somes on a Saturday Morning
As a three some we got stuck behind a 5 some all day. Course was playing nice but the pace of play makes me not want to play here again. Teed off at 730, got done at 1230 once again as a three some of 10 or lower handicaps.
Get Out Now while you still can!
This course is in the best shape it as been in years. The course is green and the fairways are huge in comparison to what you see on google earth. Other than the fact that there is a lot of work to be done around the third hole, this course has really benefited from the increased rainfall in our area; an outdated irrigation system can make it extremely difficult to water in the heat of the summer. These conditions are here now, but once July rolls thru it is certain that they wont last. Play it while you can, otherwise wait till the fall.
Too crowded
I played here with two other people on a Sunday morning and was not too impressed. Tee time was 10:30 and we didn't even get on the tee box until 11:15. Each hole we progressed to already had 2 groups of 4 waiting to hit which caused the entire round to come to a snail's pace. Granted, it was Sunday and at peak hours, but I have never seen it get like this. We ended up leaving after the 13th hole and being on the course for 5 hours. It seems like there isn't much governance when it comes to moving groups along.
Pace of Play was Atrocious
We had a tee time for 11:37am and tee'd off right on time. The pace after that was terrible. Took us an hour to complete the first 3 holes. After the the 3rd hole, we flagged down a ranger to see what the hold up was, turned out there was a fivesome a few holes in front us. It ended up taking us 3.5 hours to complete the front 9 and we had enough. We did not even complete our round.
Tight, yet open
Solid course, except there is no ranger to police people's pace
