Absolutely Horrific
Worst golf experience of all time. There are no tee times. Anyone can go off at any time. There were FOUR groups waiting on the first tee! No marshalls, no pairing twosome and singles. 3 and 1/2 hours for 9 holes. Will never come back, ever.
Good short course/Olde Course
The condition of the greens were better than most of the comparable courses in the area. The course is also located on a hill with some awkward yet funny shots to the green. It seems the short yardage of the course makes the slope 116 but I found the angulation challenging to score well. I would recommend this course to high handicap players or to low handicap players that want to leave the driver in the bag for most of the par 4s
This course was great value
Course was in great shape and the staff was fantastic. I will definitely be back!
Numerous blind tee shots, bare tee boxes, crazy slopes greens
Played Memorial Day morning. As in past reviews, we teed off 15 mins after our tee time. The reason for this is simple...only 8 minute intervals between tee times. Also the pace of play was slow. I'm an avid golfer around a 10 handicap and I could tell that the face was also slow due to many blind tee shots (you didn't know where the group in front of you was) and also the ridiculously sloping greens. If you are above the hole good luck not hitting it 20 yards past the hole.
The fairways were in good shape and the price was right .
A Pleasant Surprise
It has been a couple of years since I last played here. I was very pleasantly surprised at the dramatic improvement in the upkeep of this classic golf course. The greens were almost pristine! Very smooth and quick, almost no ball marks. The fairways are in great shape and the rough was thick and lush. Several of the tee boxes are in poor condition, I hope this is on the todo list for the maintenance staff because this was an otherwise great day of golf.
Played with my regular golfing buddy and we were paired with a couple of fellows who are very new to the game. I don't mind playing with newbs, it is a public course but I was surprised they were sharing a bag including having only one putter between them. Did our best to keep them moving along but it was a 5 hour round. Nice guys and enjoyed their company however this is not a good choice for the beginning golfer on a Sunday morning. The par 4's are long and narrow, the par 3's are tight, fairways are not generous by any stretch and the 600 yard 14th is just the icing on the cake.
Couldn't beat the price, if you've been here before and felt disappointed take another look!
Over priced, overbooked
Tee Times mean nothing at this course . They actually ran out of carts. Pace of play was terrible. Never get what you pay for. Course was in good condition, however.
Quick undulating greens
Don't be above the hole on any green.Next to impossible to stop the ball. On 18,I was only 3 ft above the hole, just about touched the putt, just missed the cup and rolled ,gathering speed and ended up 25 ft off the surface. Other than that, the fairways were in great shape for this time of year and the sand was good but needed a few more racks.
Better than I though
I played the olde course and it was in much better condition than it has been in previous years. Though some of the greens still had weeds, the puts rolled well and were extremely fast. The fairways and tee boxes were in relatively good condition. The biggest downfall was the pace of play. I'm about a 12 handicap and don't profess to be great, but there are plenty of 40 handicappers who don't know when to take the snowmen. If I had to, I would go back, but it wouldn't be my first choice.
Slick Greens
Cobbs Creek Olde Course is not a long course but can still challenge you. The greens were really smooth and deceptively fast. The undulations are not severe but the ball will roll out if you put too much pace on it. Overall the tees are really chewed up but the fairways are decent. The greens were excellent when we played and made the round enjoyable.
fast greens, no fairway
I have played this course a couple of times, but this time the greens were really moving. If your gonna keep the greens this way, the fairways need to match.
Slowest day of my life.
Had a 1:15 tee time but didn't get out until after 2:30 because there were no carts available. Totally overbooked. Ranger bumped two groups ahead of us because they were "members". Left after 9 holes because that took 3 hours. Never again.
Not Good but Not Horrible
It's a public course which ignores tee times. That said, you can always show up and get out to play. We had a 10:00 tee time, teed off around 10:20, pace of play was very slow all day long. 5 hour round. No rangers on course to push play. Cobbs is not well kept typically, but it was in good condition for this course.
Waste of money
one of my friend play golf there, since he has to pick up a stuff from a store near there. He call the club house for rate for walking and the staff told him it's $25 to walk. but when we got there around 1:40 in the afternoon, there was one staff there and he said it's $39 to walk and he said there was no rate with $25 in his system. what a joke! This is not the first time it happened to me. I experienced similar problem when I played golf there with my dad few months earlier. The first of all, they over charge for the course where it's in terrible condition and they're very incosistent with rates they quote. Staffs are very obnoxious also. I woudn't play there. It's total waste of money. I played about 25 other courses around this area and 50 other courses domestic/abroad and the Cobbs Creek is the worst place I ever experienced with both the course and staffs.
Public Merion
This course is in the best shape it's ever been in - they are out with equipment taking care of the course and the greens are perfect. This is a very challenging course as the first 6 holes cross water, if your in the area do NOT miss this opportunity.
needs some work
I live fairly close to this course, so I've been here a fair amount in the past. I haven't been there too often recently before playing this past weekend there.
Staff is the same personnel for the most part, and they're fairly nice. the course itself is challenging and fun for the most part if you can overlook its shortcomings.
First of all, the tee boxes need a lot of work... just better maintenance. I know it's late in the season now, but I went early this season and the tee boxes were not that much better. Usually, they're dusty and hard. However, this past outing, they were dusty and too soft. Tees would just fall over in most of the areas you would want to tee off.
The rough is pretty bad. Hard like concrete, but it is the rough, so I guess it should be difficult to hit out of. I don't really have too many complaints there except that most of the time, you're gonna be hitting off of hard dirt between grass clumps.
On the good side though, the greens were in better shape than usual and also the fairways were looking decent too. I noticed that the course replaced all their golf carts, which run very well. Maybe that is a sign of the start of a better maintained golf course.
Unfortunately, as of now, I think that you can probably get better value at a different course. I really want to like the course and recommend it, but it would be a borderline recommendation in the state its in right now.
DUSTY
Every Tee box consisted of DUST and dirt.. Maybe a weed or two.
The greens were in pretty good shape, Fairways okay..
Rough was bare dirt most of the time.
Pace of play wasn't to bad, started out slow, sped up.
Good Public Course
I played Olde Course in a foursome yesterday. It was a little crowded, but the starter got us out as quickly as he could (he was a very nice guy). Had a fun time, greens were in great condition, tee boxes needed a little work though.
Golfnow.com had a deal for $49 per person including carts, on a Sunday. Hard to beat that.
Classic old course, with charm and natural beauty in okay shape
Nicer older course with mature trees, pretty setting. Interesting layout, w/ several dog legs. Better variety of holes than most courses in this price range -- this is my favorite part of this course. Shorter front 9 with more length out back. But on the downside, it has slower greens and shallow bunkers (i like a few scary monsters). Everything in pretty okay shape, nothing to rave about, but a very pleasant setting and for the money l love to play here a few times a year
Ok for the money
The fairways were all in pretty good shape as were the greens. Some of the tee boxes were in bad shape, but I guess that's to be expected at the end of the season on a busy course.
That said, I love the layout of this course. It isn't super challenging for average golfers and offers a ton of fun holes. It's not a bad course for the money, but you just have to know it will be slow during busy times.
Place is a DUMP!
I really don't understand the fascination with this place. I've played it roughly 10 times now and it is always in a state of disrepair. Only reason I play it is because my business has outings here or as a last minute hot deal. I guess after the first 5 times playing it, I should've known better. But my latest experience took the cake and ensured I will NEVER play there again unless it comes under new management.
We played the "Olde course" Sunday morning, our tee time was supposed to be 9AM, we didn't tee off until 945 because they overbooked. They decided to let a Bachelor party of 20 ppl tee off at 840! In 5 groups of 4, they were expected to tee off in 20 minutes. Yea, right. We ended up playing shot to shot and waiting at every single tee box for 10+ minutes and fairway to hit. I guess it was cool because we felt like Tiger Woods with a gallery watching us at every tee box considering the two groups behind us caught up and were waiting at every tee box with us. We left after 4.5 hours and only completed 13 holes because neither of us three had the time nor patience to continue play on a sure 6 hour round. If that's how you like playing golf, then power to you this is the course for you. Oh and the cherry on top? They were aerating the greens! Haha we didn't find out that neat fact until we got to the first green of course--because that would be silly to warn you beforehand. But that's just how this disaster of a place does business I guess. Greens had weeds and crab grass growing through them. Half of the tee boxes were not even playable, to the point that we struggled to even get our tees into the ground. Some of the boxes are so bad that the grass has not grown back and you are forced to stand with the ball above or below your feet--which any person that plays somewhat regularly knows, is not an ideal way you'd like to have to line up to hit a shot. Not to mention the homeless guys walking through the course. Very scenic! We complained to the manager, who didn't offer our money back but instead to come back and play for free. But our experience was so dreadful I don't even think I will go back and play it for free!
Some people love this course & I for one just can't figure it out. I guess for the shear convenience? Idk but for me in the Delco area, Paxon Hollow or Springfield & Glen Mills (very expensive but nicest in the area) are head and shoulders above this place. I recommend you stay far far away from it. For the $51 they charge for a weekend morning, you could really do so much better!
sorry, I went through courses in Golfnow.com to check where I played in the past and counted courses where they're not listed in golfnow.com. Now I realized I played more like 50 courses around Philadelphia area. Anyhow, Cobbs Creek Golf Club is the worst maintained and managed course around Philadelphia. Do not waste of your money unless you're hacker
