Great Round for the Price
Course was in great shape. Pace of play was fantastic althought this is not always the case. Greens were in good condition. Fairways were clean cut. Tee boxes were okay, bit hard but this was not a problem. Plan to play here again soon, especially for the excellent price'
My review
COURSE WAS FINE BUT WAS DRY AND THE TEE'S WERE VERUY HARD.
Average Course But So Close to Being Good!
I was quite thrilled with the shape and quality of the greens. Usually public city course are pretty hammered. This course is great for what it is........an easy close course that is convenient to the City. I thought the course overall was in pretty good shape. It would be great to see some much needed work on the tee boxes. Some of them are either too hard to play off with little to no grass. With the greens being in such great shape it is a shame that the holes start with such a disappointment. But as I said......for what it is.....it is pretty cool.
Worst course I've ever played
Our tee time was booked for 7:48 AM at $48. That price is comparable to Old Course at Cobb's Creek, also through Golf Philly, which is a nice course. We assumed this course would be at least playable. Upon getting there, we waited for 30 minutes in a line of 16 people waiting to tee off. There was no one directing anyone, and after asking we were allowed to start on the back 9. Before doing so, we saw someone drive his cart back to tee off again because he couldn't find his ball. Everyone there was hammered at 8 AM, not even hiding the flasks they were sipping on. There was ZERO golf etiquette. People wore brightly colored T-shirts or just whatever they felt like putting on. People were too cheap to get their own cart, so it was common to see a third person hitching a ride EVERYWHERE on the back of a cart. The fairways were so tight and the golfers so bad that we were always waiting on someone to get out of our way. The layout was just terrible. There were three par 3s in a row. The only part of the course in good condition was the greens, and compared to the rest of the course it didn't make any sense. After finishing the back 9 we went into the "pro shop" and got our money back. The guy didn't disagree with anything we complained about; he knew how terrible it is. Short nine hole courses that cost $15 are in better shape. Oh, and people were loudly and blatantly making derogatory statements WHILE others were teeing off.
DO NOT GO TO THIS COURSE FOR THE ABOVE REASONS
Good course for beginners
Good course for getting back into golf. Working with irons. Not a long course.
Not bad at all.
JFB gets a bad rap. A few of the tee boxes are beat up and the cart paths can be rough but when it comes to the greens and fairways, they have gotten much better. So for me, the main things are where they need to be. 17 needs to go back to it's original length. Only complaint I have of the course itself. 13 doesn't bother me because I've seen it's length actually scare good players and it's a massive green. I'm not saying it's Merion but it's not bad for $36.
Not bad but I will not be quick to go back
Everything I experienced was just Ok. Some of the tee boxes were a little worn because of a lot of play. the course was not that challenging but that could be good for the beginner.
JFBGC
The golf course was in the best shape I've ever seen it in. Greens were immaculate. Fairways were in great condition. Still need to better manicure the Tee Boxes. Overall rating 2 thumbs up.
Nice course to improve your game
The course is fairly wide open and not very challenging, but that is why it's perfect for practicing your game before heading to some more difficult courses. The conditions were pretty good and the staff was very friendly.
Nice
Course was in great shape and the greens were excellent . They really need to fix their cart paths though, a day out those oaths really do a number on your back
Ok
We were behing an outing of a bunch of groups of 7. Course rangers needed. Greens are aerated.
DOG TRACK
Have to say probably the worst course I ever played. You needed a gps just to know where the next hole was know signs and no yardage marker's. So not worth the money.
Great City Owned Course
Byrnes is a well maintained course that you don't have to travel far for. I really enjoy having this course in my area. It plays like a suburban course with a few par fives and challenging par 3's. It gets pretty crowed and it is not nice enough to pay full price ($45.00 a round). If you can grab a hot deal or even a moderate, it is worth a play.
Not Bad for a Sunday Morning
Took my wife out on Sunday morning. I was a little hesitant about playing a course in North Philly but this course was not too bad. Very short course & had a fair amount of interesting holes. Greens were just aerated so that was somewhat disappointing as we were putting through wet sand since we played early AM and the dew didn't mix too well with it.
Overall, we paid around $30 a piece to play early AM, which is probably right at what I would think this course should be priced at-- so I can't complain. Back nine was somewhat stale as there were just a lot of flat-straight holes. Lots of crab grass, some on the greens, and the tee boxes were in need of some attention as it took us some effort to get our tees in on some of them. The golf carts have seen better days and barely made it up some inclines. The pace was great though considering the course was packed. My wife (who is not very good, and just started playing) & myself (12 handicap) finished the round in about 3 1/2 hours.
The staff was nice and friendly. For the $30 we paid for early morning, I'd go again.
Meh
Considering the fairways are about the same cut as the rough, and the cart-paths are for lack of a better word, treacherous... we still had a good time playing 18 here.
The holes aren't too challenging (but the game of golf makes any round hard enough for people like me who don't play regularly).
Staff was very friendly, and pace of play was fine. Beware, there were some seriously Neasty cargo-shorts-clad dudes with boomboxes playing Greenday out of their carts... semi-off-putting.
Great place to play golf !
I find this course to be a great place to play because it is well maintained, and the staff is exceptional. For a public course, it's outstanding A hidden jewel!
Fairways and greens are in excellent condition. Friday morning course was empty. Played straight thru with no delays.
Great value, course in great shape... greens were true and held.
Super value!
The staff at this golf course are really wonderfu especially Gary who runs the pro shop.
My wife and I really felt welcome and it seemed like everyone there insisted that we had an enjoyable round including the started who told us about course ptotocol, water and bathroolm locations.
They all seemed to appreciate our patronage.
Much better shape than last time we played there two years ago
Good price, nice staff but need a ranger out on the course. People driving carts around greens and in the fairway on par threes. Too many twosomes made play slow
