Best public course in Charlotte

VR is hands down the best public course in the Charlotte area. The conditions are always top notch, including the immaculate champion bermuda greens. The layout is tough but fair and really makes the golf enjoyable. You could play this course 1,000 times and not get tired of it.

Challenging Hilly Course

Verdict Ridge gets high praise on this website, and for good reason. It's clearly one of the best public courses in the Charlotte area and worth the drive from the city. The staff is friendly and accommodating to guests, the practice facilities are nice, and it's an insanely good twilight rate at just $39. But without local course knowledge, golfers can struggle very easily. Sage advice from the head professional when I checked in: play for the high point of the hills. Most holes have some sort of crossing hills that feed balls to one side of the hole. Sometimes you have to deliberately aim for the rough just to catch the hill into the fairway. And the greens are very slick; try to stay below the hole as much as possible. But I'll definitely be back to Verdict Ridge; it's well worth the challenge!

Counter person rude

Would have enjoyed golf experience except for one unsettling happening. On sixteenth hole , we encountered a flat tire in middle of fairway. Called for help and moved cart to cart path. Didn't get picked up till after 40 min. Couldn't finish round for darkness. Asked for some kind of rain-check and was refused and even accused of driving the cart on flat tire.
Person had no sense of customer service!

This is really a public course?!

This is, by far, my favorite course in Charlotte. Great course topography and layout. The fairways are as fast as most greens in the area, and the greens are like glass. This should be the #1 public course in the Charlotte area.

Great course, great conditions

First time playing this track, but my playing partner had been several times and highly recommended it. Course was in great condition from tees to greens. Verdict Ridge is definitely far from a flat course. Besides the tees, I can count the amount of flat lies I had on one hand. Definitely fair though. Bermuda greens in great condition, and rolled fast and true.

Amenities were good, with prices as expected to a tad bit higher than usual ($5 for a Powerade). Beer cart girl was nice, but only saw her on one hole.

All in all, great course. Only complaint is pace of play. I will say there was a marshall present, but we (twosome), got stuck behind a single and a slow foursome. We eventually paired up with the single, but took almost 3 1/2 hours for front 9. Other than that, highly reccommend.

Rewarding the Bold

Being in the Charlotte area for a few weeks I've tried a handful of different tracks, Verdict is the only one I repeated. The design of the course rewards creativity and shot making while being wide enough for most any player. Holes like 3, 9, 16, and 18 encourage a shot that uses the layout's natural hilly terrain (it's really hilly) to get shots into the fairway and down to flat areas (many shots into greens are off of slopes). Just for the sake of depiction, the 9th hole, a short par 4 with water on the right and OB on top of a huge hill to the left actually asks the player to hit toward the OB to catch the hill and move the ball into wedge range without having to worry about the water which is very much in play because of the holes natural contours. As someone from the northeast the blazing fast Bermuda greens had me shaking my head all day long but they were smooth and true. If I had one gripe it would be the inconsistency in some of the bunkers but that is a small mark against a great course that can be played at a great value.

GREAT course

In the area on vacation and found Verdict Ridge on this site and went with the reviews. They are all dead on. Even with the reviews, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the course and overall enjoyment of the round. Fantastic layout with dramatic elevation changes - that was probably the most surprising. It is a VERY hilly course. Several of the holes could be labeled as signature with fantastic views on most of them. Nice mix of short and long Par 3s and Par 5s. Greens were consistent even though they'd recently been sanded. Fairways were in great shape. I'd be very happy to have this is my home course.

Nice Track

This was my first round in North Carolina, was visiting from New England. I have to admit, the layout was pretty similar to some courses you would see in the northeast with quite a bit of elevation change throughout. Course was in great condition, some of the bunkers had standing water but most were good considering we were dealing with on and off storms throughout the day. Great value, we paid $45 and played in about 4 hours on a Friday Afternoon. I would definitely return if in the Charlotte area again.

Great Course. Top 5 public courses in Charlotte metro

This track requires many forced carries which can be very daunting. Course conditions a typically very good for winter golf. Greens were switched from bent to bermuda over the summer and are rolling well but a bit hard so a lot of shots aren't holding.

Brand new greens are great

This is one of my favorite courses in the Charlotte area. The grounds are always in great shape. Playing from the Blues allows for a fun round that provides good scoring chances. From the Blacks, the course becomes challenging with several long par 3s that offer little bail out area. The new greens are rolling true and were a great addition to the course. Great value!

These greens were fantastic

It had been ten years since I last played here. The new greens were absolutely perfect. They were fast and lots of undulation. The front nine plays pretty flat compared to the elevation changes of the back nine. Beautiful to look at and a real challenge. A little breezy but all in all a great day on the first day of November.

Verdict Ridge

Played this course on a Sunday afternoon, and though the course is in great shape, it was not extremely busy. Fairways were very good and the new greens are excellent for just being open a couple of months. All in all, I rate Verdict Ridge very high for both layout and condition. Look forward to playing again!

Great public course for the Charlotte area

Couldn't be more pleased with my first experience at Verdict Ridge. Recently installed Champion Bermuda greens that were in excellent shape, the fairways were well-maintained and the rough challenging, but fair. Great experience. I know I'll be back.

Outstanding!

A beautiful and challenging layout with breathtaking vistas. The new greens were very fast but the balls rolled true. Some blind shots but overall very playable. We had a great time and will definitely be back.
