3 Lakes Golf Course
About
3 Lakes Golf Course originally opened in 1923 under the name Alcoma Golf Course. Along with the name change, it also opened its doors to the public and has since become a local favorite. It's known as one of the best values for your money in the area, offering country club-style golf at public rates. The layout was designed by Emil Loeffler, who designed two other courses in Pittsburgh – Highland Country Club and Shannopin Country Club. The course sprawls across more than 150 acres of gently rolling terrain, providing rolling fairways and undulating greens. The classic layout is tough but fair. You'll be tested with a variety of different lies and the holes have plenty of diversity as well, ranging from some that are on the shorter side to others that are monstrous.

5 hour round
First time on this course. Teamed up with two nice younger guys. Had fun but took so long to get around. Ranger was on the first hole and eating hot dogs at 10. Liked the variation in tee box distances. Very severe hillside on some holes. Fairways are good. Greens are fast but golfers are not fixing their ball marks. Bunkers , Not good with hard compacted sand and puddles of water. Not sure when I'll be back.
avoid
Run down course with rude staff. Go anywhere else.
run down run down run fown
The course is beat, the paths are beat, the cafe is beat, the clubhouse is perpetually up for sale. The management are worse off than the run down course. Avoid at all costs. Thee are so many better courses less than 30 minutes from here.
Overbooked
This is something a lot of courses let happen but habitually in western PA; no rangers anywhere, quit after 9 because 2:40 is absurd.
I’d say Covid is the cause of the congestion but it’s been this way for years.
Course is average but for the first time in the 5-6 years I’ve played this course, it wasn’t soggy wet so that was a huge plus. The actual course was in pretty good shape also.
More staff needed
The course and staff were good but they need a starter and a ranger. My assigned playing partner was determined to play as a single so when I showed up on the 1st tee and introduced myself, he said he was slow and took off for the 10th hole. I ended playing as a single and had to play through several groups.
Ok course with terrible staff, will never play there again
The course is Ok (much worse than a few years ago). However, the staff of the course were extremely rude, especially the ranger. He may bother you for no reason whenever you are preparing for shot or putting. They screw up your game, and will never say sorry to you. You will feel you are not welcome to play there. Don't waste your money.
Hilly is an understatement
Nice course we'll groomed, and various degrees of Hill slopes. 5th Hole Par 5, the fairway seems nearly a 45 degree angle.
The pace of play was a snail's pace. Stopped after 9 of my 18 holes, after 2.15 hours for front 9.
Pleasantly surprized
After seeing reviews and. 3 stars from golfnow I expected fair to average conditions. But experienced so much better, the fairways were nice and the greens rolled true. Overall great course to play! I guve it 4 stars easily
Great Day!
Staff extremely friendly, out of their way to ensure you have a good day. Heavily booked around our time, and pace was great. I cannot state how fun this course is, used every club in the bag. If you don't like it, not sure what you would you enjoy.
course in good shape, exception of bunkers, hard, rocky. Greens faster than average
Thank you so much for give us a good review and 4 out of 5 star rating! We strive to make 3 Lakes Golf Course the best public course with private amenities in Pittsburgh. We look forward to improving the bunkers for next season!
Thank you so much for taking the time to review 3 Lakes. We strive to be the best public golf course in Pittsburgh area, which sometimes makes Saturdays a very busy day. We are glad you had fun and like the variation in tee box distances. Unfortunately, the fog delay on the Saturday you played pushed a large group event into regularly scheduled tee times (and had the ranger on #1 & #10 as starter for most of the day) and the pace of play suffered. This is not typical. We would love to see you back again to enjoy the fast greens and good fairways at 3 Lakes Golf Course.
