South/North at Etowah Valley Country Club & Golf Lodge

About
Nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains, Etowah Valley Golf Club & Lodge offers stunning mountain views from nearly every hole. The 27-hole layout is divided into three nines, which means there are three 18-hole combinations available. The South/North golf course begins with the longest nine and ends with the shortest. Water has a prominent presence throughout the golf course. There is a stream that runs through all three nines and there are also several ponds that come into play. The course closely follows the natural contours of the land. The tree-lined fairways bend, fold, and roll seamlessly to the undulating greens. There are also a few strategically placed bunkers to watch out for. All of the combinations are challenging yet playable, which is why Etowah Valley Golf Club & Lodge is one of western North Carolina's most popular golfing destinations.

Enjoyable Round in the Mountains
Very enjoyable round for me and my wife.
Having played here some over the years, I would have to say that it is not the same as it used to be but not necessarily a bad thing. They have gone from 27 to 18 holes and some of the old buildings could use some sprucing up. The existing 18 holes, though, was in good shape. Lots of good thick grass in the fairways and the greens rolled very nicely. The staff was very welcoming and friendly.
We played at a discounted rate through GolfNow but I would say it’s a very good value, regardless. Highly recommend!
Hendo
Due to several high schools participating in a regional tournament the pace of play was very slow. Totally understandable but tie times should have been adjusted!
Long wait for carts
Had to wait 30 minutes past our tee time to get golf cart.
Understaffed
Yes, it was a holiday weekend (Friday), but tee time was delayed by 30 minutes. No Marshalls or Starter. There was a random guying hawking balls from the creeks and ponds - Why is he allowed during course play?
The remodeling is stagnant and sucks the life out of what the course could be, it’s former glory.
Etowah Valley
Course was in terrible condition. I have played here several times, never been worse conditions.
Etowah Valley
Never seen this course in such poor conditions. Fairways were horrible and the sand traps were pathetic. They should of refunded the greens fees.
Very slow play
Started half an hour past our tee time. There was no starter, so groups had to figure it out. Seemed oversold. Took over 2:30 for the front nine. Several bunkers under construction and were mud pits. I'd play elsewhere.
Neglected course
Tee boxes are all weeds, fairways burned out, sand traps dried dirt not sand, sand on all greens and no notice of aeration of greens. Very sad as I used to play here years ago. Bathroom on the course was disgusting, not usable.
Always good
Etowah is a solid course, challenging but fair. Course in good shape, cart paths must have been destroyed by Hurricane Helene as they are mostly gravel now. Overall a good place to play, considering we lost a few from storm.
Two different nines
The course has 3 nines. One nine was closed for maintenance. The front nine (the west course I think) was a disaster. Fairways and tees were dead and full of weeds. The greens had large sections where sod that had been removed (probably for the maintenance on the third nine). Bunkers had no sand but lots of rocks and weeds. It was almost unplayable. The back nine (the south nine I think) was reasonable. The greens were lush and green but very very slow. The tees and bunkers were great. The fairways were still dormant but fine. I would not play there again based on the conditions of the front nine.
Golf day with my sons
Very friendly staff. Nice range. Great layout. Fairways are still in winter grass but cut perfectly. Greens in nice shape. Some show they have been aerated lately but still in Very good shape. The views were awsome.
Will definitely drive from Charlotte to play again.
Fantastic Course
Weather was a little damp, but course conditions were excellent.
Excellent Course
Great course. Would definitely recommend to others the play. Will play again
Great course to play
I’m never disappointed when playing at Etowah Valley. It is probably my favorite course. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and you rarely ever run into any jerks.
Right now, the entire course is cart path only, which is understandable, especially since the damage Hurricane Helene caused to the area. The fairways have been re-seeded and the grass should be up very soon. The greens looked great. Some are a bit fast and will trick you if you don’t read them just right.
The bar is great, and they have a wide selection. Perhaps having live music return would be an added bonus.
Etowah Valley in the Rain
First time playing course. Played North/South. North course has more elevation change, South course a bit flat. Overall course is a bit tired. Greens on north OK better on South. Fairways were ok on south, needed help on North. Bunkers were overgrown and in bad shape on north and not much better on south. Lots of ground under repair areas in front of greens on south.
We did get rain during front 9 but played thru. By time we got to back nine rain stopped but the course was completely wet. We slogged thru it. For the fee, should have realized course was going to be questionable. But we had a good time, the staff was friendly and helpful. Would not play again as there are better courses out there in the area.
