Skytop Lodge - Poconos Golf Course
About
Skytop Golf Course sprawls across rolling hills set against a backdrop provided by the beautiful Poconos. The course originally opened in 1927. It has a classic design with traditional features including wide fairways, but the trees that line them have matured into quite the challenge. The 6,656-yard length may seem short by modern standards but don't get too comfortable. This mountain golf course features a variety of elevation changes and nowhere is this more apparent than the small greens where the breaks can vary from subtle to dramatic, but they are almost all unexpected. The greens also play lightning fast. Strategically placed bunkers are lurking throughout but thankfully water only comes into play on two holes. Skytop Golf Course offers plenty of scenic respite as well, with panoramic views of West Mountain.

The leaves were at their best, and the views great. Photo submitted by bdad9428 on 10/18/2013
SkyTop in the Fall
It was a gorgeous fall day and the course was in great shape. Carts were supplied with tees and towels. Greens were well maintained with well defined fringe cuts. Despite it being in fall, the fairways were , for the most part, devoid of leaves. The views were fantastic of the hills and the fall foliage. We had a great time! we will be back.
typical poconos course. some nice views and a nice course layout. i played by myself and had 2 older couples in front of me but they kept a good pace
Coming here just off the street is kind of pricy but finding a deal on golf now made it much more affordable
Great golf course
Played Friday afternoon. Course was empty so pace of play was great. Course was challenging and extremely well maintained. Would absolutely play here again.
Nice Resort
Great price for a very nice resort course. First time here and it was a pleasant surprise how nice the course was. Actually the whole resort was pretty nice especially compared to other Poconos resorts in the area.
Course layout and conditions were very nice. It looked like the greens have been aerated a while back so some of the back nine greens were a little bumpy. It should be really smooth in a couple of weeks or so.
I will definitely return.
Nice resort golf course
The golf course is part of skytop resort. We played in a windy afternoon. The wind comes from different direction. It is very difficult to judge the distance with wind. The green is very tricky and hard to read. It is difficult to score well when we played there for the 1st time.
great course, scenic views
one of the most wonderful properties in all of the poconos..course is in great shape, price on golfnow.com was incredibly low for the quality of course..only weird thing was the resort guests walking around the course..but would highly recommend to anyone
Nice course
Very nice course. Fairway grass was a little long, but greens were well maintained. So was the sand. Nice layout, open fairways for the most part. Only challenge was on holes 10 and 18. These two holes leave from, and arrive back to, the hotel recreation center. Many, many hotel guests wandering around. Had to ask guests to clear the 10th tee prior to hitting, and then had a kid pick up my ball on the 18th green and hand it to me when I arrived. To be expected, since it's a resort course, but this is the only thing keeping me from rating 4 stars. All in all, a very enjoyable day.
Great deal
If you haven't played it I highly recommend checking it out. Great course and country club feel for muni prices with golf now. Fast greens and a good fair test of your skills. Plenty of options off the tee and just open enough to temp you with hitting driver all day.
Great Views
This course has all the right twists and turns to make it a good challenge for an avid golfer.
Great Pocono Mountain Course
The course was well-maintained, although it did show lots of play on the tee boxes and greens. We played this course in the Fall and it was pristine at that time. Good course for the mountains.
Needs Attention
I found it to be too long for especially the average female golfer. Tee boxes need work as well as many of the greens. Nice scenery.
Needs some work
It was my first time playing this course and it was right after a heavy rain. The fairways drained pretty well but the some of the bunkers were ponds. Nice layout and great views, but the greens were awful. Not sure if there was a disease on them, but there were bare patches and they were bumpy. For the price it was good ($23/man) but would be extremely upset if had paid full price of $75! If they repair the greens and it was dry outside I would play again!!!
Beautiful setting and views
In the middle of nowhere but should not stop you from this road trip. Nice course set on the top of a ridge with great views. Greens were rolled but a bit dry and bumpy. $20 was a HOT DEAL for this course! Staff was very friendly too.
Best days long ago
Save your money and go somewhere else. I politely asked for a refund after 9 holes and thankfully the pro was nice enough to grant me one. This COULD be an excellent course but unfortunately Skytop no longer has the resources to make it such. Five out of the nine greens on the front were, imo, unplayable. There's simply no excuse that when you're charging the general public $75 to play.
I honestly can't come up with one reason to play here. Especially since it's no longer 1970.
Could use a little work
Nice course could be kept up a little better but the views and surroundings make up for that. Had fun!
Go to buck hills.
The course was average, not in very good shape. People from hotel were constantly walking/biking across fairway interrupting play. The staff was average as well, some were decent while others were dismissive and rude. I wouldn't suggest this course, buck hills is very close by with better conditions and super friendly staff/golf pro.
Nice but can use some work!
Played a mid-pm round w my wife on a very hot day. It was surprisingly comfortable due to breeze and elevation. Some greens are a bit bumpy and rough but overall not bad. The rough, however, is a bit much. In some areas it was British Open like...waist deep. Even the 1st cut was high enough to hide your ball and slow down play. I like the layout...only a couple of "gimmicky" holes.
Great old course
The course was in very good condition considering the recent weather conditions. Both my son and I enjoyed the experience immensely. Very playable course everything is in front of you...not tricked up
Stunning views of the Delaware Valley make Skytop Lodge a great local course
The beauty of both the Delaware Valley and the Skytop Resort make a round of golf at Skytop a great day, regardless of your game!
We were greeted warmly by all members of the staff including the Pro Shop, the starter and the beer cart girl! The course was fairly well maintained but some of the greens needed work. The pace slowed up towards the end and there didn't seem to be anyone maintaining the pace of play overall.
The restaurant does not open until 2 and while there is a deli it is small with no seating. Don't plan on lunch after your round unless you start late.
I would still go back but only with an offer price.
Exceptional Fairways and Greens
From Tee Box to Green, the course has always been in exceptional condition. Fairly challenging course that is very fair (not narrow fairways). Facility is top notch. My wife and I finished in a little over 3 hours on a Friday afternoon.
