Springfield Country Club
About
Springfield Country Club is situated just outside of Philadelphia, only 10 minutes from the airport. The golf course sprawls across gently rolling hills accented with stands of mature trees. The changes in elevation are seemingly subtle but they are trickier than they appear. Although the course is playable enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels, it doesn't start you off easily. The opening hole is a tough par 4 that has a creek meandering across it as well as a severely sloped green, followed by another par 4, an uphill hole with an elevated and bunkered green. There are a few strategically placed bunkers throughout and water makes an appearance on a few other holes. The towering trees that frame many of the holes also present challenges.

Inconclusive, played in the dead of winter
They're currently building (squeezing in) a hotel on the already tight course so much of the 1st, 18th and 10th holes are affected. Greens were just sanded and are extremely quick for winter time.
Worth playing at a nice discount but wouldn't pay regular price. Hotel is expected to be finished at the end of the summer and not sure how the hole layouts will be affected.
Probably won't be back to prime condition until next year.
This Course has potential
On arrival, we were told there was a frost delay of one hour which they didn't take the time to give us a courtesy call, but that was easy to over look since there were major construction and we were not told of that ahead of time as well. After waiting 40mins we were allowed to tee off, Yes! Well that feeling didn't last for long, right in front of the 1st green there was about ten yards area of no grass, like a mud pit roped off and gaps of grass missing on the green, that was just for the 1st hole...well I will make this short because I can go on and on. The difference from hitting the fairways and the roughs was the hight of the grass but the patches and holes where all so similar. I do believe after the construction the place will be better but for now it's not up to par no pun intended but they should be handing out coupons for when that time do come for present paying customers , which I did call the pro shop after play because I didn't want to track my way back to the pro shop through the mud from the tractor , yes tractor, I got some guy by the name of Scott which give me the respond like who cares you don't think the course was in good play condition, in his own words, so I didn't mention the coupon thing lol . All in all the course need some work to get back to what they're known for. My opinion, wait till construction is completed in August (as i was told) to play the course.
This course has a lot of character
A fun golf course with a lot of interesting shot possibilities. A very friendly and accommodating staff. I am anxious to see what their plan is for the tenth hole tee box when the new Marriott hotel is built.
Under going some renovations due to a hotel being added, but in good shape.
Course was in good shape for mid-January. Some minor changes taking place due to construction of a new hotel facility. Great price for the conditions.
Fun layout!
Nice layout fun to play. Longer than you think on the white tees because of only two par 5's. The greens where in very good condition for December.
Slick, trick greens. Very well maintained for a muni.
Some big hotel construction going on onsite but only affected #10. Good mixture of challenging and rewarding. No dinky par 3s, and par 4s and 5s are reasonable. Overall, it was in fabulous shape for a December round. Starter acted like SCC was Augusta. DO NOT pay clubhouse price! GolfNow is your best bet.
When greens maintained this course is top 10 tri-state area
Springfield CC is a course built for all skill level. It has the distance, green challenges for 6 to 30 handicappers to never get bored and stay challenged, great home course. It offers 14 holes in which you will use different clubs daily. It has trouble, yet, gives those handicappers the ability to enhance get out of trouble skills. It also teaches you to play to your strengths. It requires and challenges you utilizes all faccetts of game your own game in order to score exceptional or better than your handicapp. Now, for those scratch golfers, who have serious tournament aspirations, it's enough of a challenge that you would not mind returning. A downfall would be greens have never been consistant month to month and season to season. The Staff service is an "F" they have the wrong attitude dealing with golfers, grumpy old men woth poor customer service skills. They need to make that consistant.
Fairways need better maintenance.
I played here over the summer time and it was in decent shape. But even back then I noticed that there were lots of dry/bare spots in the fairways. Construction aside the fairways were no better this time around. But I got a great deal online so really can't complain - to me it's still a better alternative to hitting balls at a driving range.
Golf doesn't seem to be their priority
This is a great location for a golf course as there are not many in Delaware County near where I live, but I will digress for a moment. The country club is used heavily as a reception area for all sorts of events, and the golfing customers are forced to be directed poorly to the rear of the building, and if you attempt to enter the wrong way, beware, they will shout at you for offending the people there for the wedding or whatever is going on that day. With that being said, they have a great course, that unfortunately is under construction currently, and as it is the off season it makes sense. I would recommend this course because it looks like it could be very nice, it just isn't at the moment. I look forward to going back next season, and I hope they have better directions for new golfers as I found it confusing on how to best reach the pro shop. The fairways are pretty close to the rough in areas, but again, I went off season, so I wouldn't hold this against them too much. Give it a go, I will wait to make a strong statement until I see it again.
Cheers!
The course was in decent shape.
I got there 30 minutes early and they asked if we would like to take advantage and we did. The course was in decent shape. Some of the hole locations were questionable.
this is agreat course to play in the of season. the geens hold up well
always a good time at this course. the staff is freindly & the course is in good condition for this time of the year!
Under Construction
Nice course with some nice Par' 3's. Howvever they are building a hotel on the course which will cut a couple oh holes short. Its inconvenient for now hopefully everything be nice when its done.
Great course layout.
The layout is challenging and most of the course looks terrific. But the level of work going on should have reduced the green fees.
Silly Holes
The course is a little gimmicy. For exaple, one hole is a u-turn where if you hit over the trees to you right the fairway doesnt even come into paly. There are some okay holes, but the course condition was rough. I think the fairways recently had a disease and they were in the process of recovering. All in all there are much better courses and much better values on Golf Now.
Used To Be A Good Course
This is my home course but unfortunately, this course is in bad shape.
A few years ago, this course was excellent, even in August, it was in very good shape.
That is why I decided to have my Golf League play there in August of 2011. Needless to say I was embarrassed by the condition. The greens were horrendous. And when I commented about their conditions to a ranger, he said that they were in very good shape. Not only does he need to see an Optometrist but also a psychiatrist.
Everyone in my league agreed NOT to return there.
This year (2012) was no different. My League did NOT return but I only played here twice because the conditions were poor. The fairways are MUD and need a lot of attention. The greens weren't too bad but not good enough to play here again.
The staff is not very friendly and our round was very long due to slow play. The ranger showed up at the 18th hole...too late!
He then proceeded to talk to a golfer that was on the fairway for more than 5 minutes while we waited on the tee box. I am not kidding. We finally decided to hit into them since we felt they fell asleep.
Myself and others that I know GLADLY travel 20 - 30 miles to play other courses that are in much better shape.
Great Location and Not Too Difficult
If you are a beginner, or not so great golfer such as myself this is a really good place to get out for a quick round during the week.
Good beginner course but conditions need improvement
This course had wide fairways, big greens, and several elevation changes that made this course fairly interesting to play. The greens were super fast and in good condition, but the fairways and tee boxes looked patchy all over the place. It wasn't unplayable, but it just didn't feel inviting. Once you get past the first two or three holes, the highway noise fades away and you can start to feel more peaceful. This course felt quite forgiving and not too challenging. I might recommend this course for the beginner golfer, but I think the serious golfers would want a more challenging course.
On the day that I played, the pro shop somehow forgot to book 4 foursomes in their schedule, so everybody got backed up, and the pace was painfully slow. Hopefully this was just a rare oversight and not a recurring issue.
great course love playing there!
always in good shape they do golf right ! fairways beautiful greens fast and challenging. staff is great
Although shorter in length
Although shorter in length Springfield CC has great ammenities that are offered. I found the course to be in moderate to good condition. The greens themselves were in great shape and rolled trully, while the fairways were very dead and lacked continual maintenance. Tee boxes were buffed up from the tips...rarely played I presume? The barely extra yardage constituted underwhelming challenges. The ammenities saved the overall course conditions however. A well-stocked proshop, and mid-round bar/snackery awaits the ferocious, as well as the famished.
Course has more hills than I remember
I used to play this course when I was in college 40 years ago. I never remember it having as many hills then, which gives you uneven lies. Also, there were more "blind shots" on holes than I remember.
The fairways were in terrible shape, obviously from the number of days this summer when the temperature was 90+ degrees. It is the first time I have ever played a course where they were aerating/re-seeding the FAIRWAYS.
I am far from being a "picky" golfer, i.e. I really enjoy playing golf on ANY course. But if I play this course again, I will be sure to question the condition of the course prior to playing.
This review is unfortunately inaccurate. While Springfield is not by any means my favorite course to play i feel the need to defend it here. The construction of the hotel not the events that take place is what causes golfers to have to navigate to the back of the building (club house has always been in the back). I have been ther three times since construction began and each time, with out fail an employee has come out to the parking lot in a cart offering me a ride to the starter. Not confusing at all.
