Carolina Club in Grandy, NC
Nice course with friendly staff. Liked the course enough to do a re-play. 36 holes completed in a little over 6 hours, but we played as a 2-some and were the first group out in the AM, so don't necessarily expect that fast a play, although the starters do emphasize the pace of play. Played blue tees first and got a lay of the land, then played golds - some holes much more challenging from those tees, but not sure of golds are only for low handicap players as I am a 19 and shot a 93
some challenging holes
Course was in good condition and the pace of play was excellent.
You should disclose when sending groups off the back.
The reason you get up at 5:30am while on vacation to drive 40 minutes for the 7:00am tee time is so you can finish in 3 hours and get back to the family and beach.
As a 3 some we finished the front 9 in 1:40. As we made the turn, we were held at #10 because they were sending groups off the back. No one had said anything about this when making the tee time, checking in, greeting the starter. We sat at #10 tee for 20+ minutes and proceeded to wait on every single shot for the next 2:45.
When I told the 10th tee starter this was not what we expected at all, we were told that we were playing too fast. "our pace of play for the front is 2:15 and you are ahead of that." He then proceeded to tell us that all the courses in the area do this because "we need to maximize revenue." We have over 200 golfers today.
When I pointed out that we played their sister course The Pointe 2 days earlier, and there was no one going off the back he was speechless and said something about we are barely making it as it is.
My whole point is - if you are going to use two sets of tees, you should disclose this. I can then make the choice as to whether I want to run the risk of hitting a traffic jam like we did and play somewhere else or sleep in a bit.
The fact that you didn't and we spent an extra 45 minutes waiting on shots really left a bad impression.
Until you do that, I would not recommend this course.
Caolina Club remains a very good track
I play The Carolina Club once a year while on vacation in OBX. This course is one of my favorites. The staff is super friendly. The fairways and greens were in great condition. The only short fall is the driving range which limits you to shots of 180 yards or less. That said, there are two short game areas and a very large putting green. The shack after the 6th and 13th holes was closed. Usually it is stocked with sandwiches, hot dogs, etc, but there was a cart girl making the rounds.
What I like most about this course is the variety of holes, from wide open pull out your driver to narrow shorter holes to hole number 9 which is a par 5 "pure target" golf type hole. If you are vacationing in OBX it is a must-play course.
Nice course. Slow Play
The course was great but the pace was terrible. We had a 4 pm tee time and didn't get to play the last two holes because the group in front of us was so slow.
Great Golf at the Carolina Club
Even with a crowded course our threesome played in four hours. In my opinion any vacationer to OBX that does not play this course is missing out on a day of great fun.
Great course, great conditions
Played this course on a weekday late afternoon and it was wide open. Course is in extremely good shape, some of the best greens I've ever played. The layout is interesting and challenging in places. No holes are back to back, it seems. Would love to be able to play this course frequently if I lived closer.
Nice course
Nice course, nice people! The only thing I was disappointed in was that the resturaunt was closed at 7 pm.
Beautiful layout.
Course was in an excellent condition even if it had rained. Our foursome enjoyed every minute. Course good for every skills of golf. We went out at 4.00PM and were finished by 6.30PM, no wait at all.
Always in excellant condition, a friendly staff and a great value!.
The course is always in great shape (hurricane had hit the area just days before). It is a enjoyable layout and not an overly challenging course. Staff is always friendly and I meet a friend annually this week to play here. Everyone I know agrees with me and play here annually when vacationing in the OBX!
Carolina Club
Never saw a beverage cart so I can't speak about that. Great conditions, however greens were slow. I must say this was three days after a hurricane came through town so it was a bit wet.
Private Country Club Feel
From the moment I pulled in I had the feeling I was in a private club. Staff was friendly, attentive, informative and great sense of humor. The course was in fantastic shape. Each hole was unique in it's challenge. I love hole number 9. Wow! I will try to play every time I visit. My very best wishes for great success.
Beautiful course
Great course. Staff is friendly and professional. Would highly recommend and will play again.
Looking forward to returning!
This was a beautiful course with such a friendly staff. The course had plenty of challenges for a beginner, that I was happy to meet. There were trash receptacles and ball washers along the way with even a restroom building with vending midway through the course. The pro shop had many items for women and men to choose from. After playing 18 holes, we ate at Tucker's. The food was excellent and the staff very pleasant. It is also open to the public, and we will eat there again, even if we don't play golf first. Can't wait to go back!
A great beach course alternative!
Cheaper than the average beach course with a great layout and excellent shape. Staff was very friendly and accommodating!
Excellent course conditions.
One of the best courses in the area with easy access from the Outer Banks. The course conditions were great with beautiful fairways and excellent putting conditions. There were a few water hazards - just enough to add to the challenge. I would highly recommend adding this course to those to play when visiting the Outer Banks.
Fun Course
I would recommend the course. Would rate diffulty moderate. Greens had been just punched which made it difficult to putt. Would say a fun course. We were behind a slow foursome do skipped a whole to move along. Bunkers were good sand fairways were lush. Would like to play again when greens are in good shape.
Wet, windy but wonderful
The course has been wet due to less than optimal spring weather. Wind was also a factor, at times leading one to club up two full clubs.
Greens were in excellent condition despite the early spring conditions.
Try to have fun attempting to hit the island green with the tee shot into the wind. A successful challenge.
Pay the Carolina club
Had played the club a few times and was very pleased with the condition in early spring. Greens were in very good shape, true rolls.
4 holes in low lying areas were cart path only. No fault of the course, the area saw a tremendous amount of rain all month.
19th hole has great burgers and a nice selection of beer and other libations!
Play the Carolina club, you will enjoy the experience!
