Birkdale
We have had alot of rain over the last month. All course are cart path only at this time and Birkdale is no exception. Half of the bunkers are filled with water. Greens have improved over the last 6 months but were a little slow. Overall about as good as the course can be in the middle of a very wet winter.
So much better!
Even with the recent rain this course has amazed me from 5 years ago...cannot beat the price either
Dump
Should be ashamed to charge full price for a course that’s shutting down tomorrow and idk why you’d even reopen this cow pasture
Wet & Slow Play
The course itself is great. Layout, greens are fast, fairways are in good shape. If it rains a few days before you go however, everything is in rough conditions and makes it hard to score.
A foursome in front of us was told to speed up play at least two times and failed to do so. Our tee time was at 11:48am and we didn’t finish until 5:15pm. Not much the course can do if they fail to speed up, but it was getting ridiculous. For example, we waited on the 15th tee box for about five minutes with a line of two other groups behind us. They weren’t just holding us up, they were holding the whole course up.
Otherwise, this course is great! Highly recommend going on a beautiful sunny day!
Standard
Its a decent course but quite frankly its way overpriced for the condition its in. I think they can get away with it because the area they're in is so populated.
Excellent
Friendly Staff very nice layout .
We have to go back in the summer when the leaves are not there.
Love the course
A definite must play again
I really enjoyed the course. Staff was nice and I played very good here, whether it was me or the course. I just had a great day.
Good learning course
The course is hit or miss depending on the time of year. It’s definitely overpriced for the course conditions. This is a $40 course at best but definitely not worth the $60 they charge sometimes. That being said, you’ll be hard pressed to find membership rates as low as it is at Birkdale. Phone system there is very archaic. Good luck getting through.
The staff in general is very friendly with the exception of a few employees. The GM is very helpful and accommodating.
Great layout and great staff
I’ve played here a few times and I have to say some of you think you’re going to get Augusta conditions for a prime $50 tee time Next to Lake Norman with 2 ultra-expensive private clubs. First, this course plays 7014 yds from the tips and I would venture to say that even the lower handicapper, big hitters would have a tough time shooting better than 2/3 under with the length of some of the tougher handicap holes. The blue tees offer a nice spot for the mid-handicappers at 6500 yds. The course layout is a fantastic Palmer design with a little bit of everything. Risk / reward par 5s, a drivable par 4, and a couple doglegs that will require precision with a 3 wood or utility. It also has some holes with wide forgiving fairways only to require a very accurate shot to some smaller greens. Again the greens aren’t perfect but for one of the only courses left with bent grass they are better than fair. Remember, this course gets a TON of PUBLIC play. My only comment would be if you play here make sure you fix your ball mark and 1 to 2 more. That will go a long way in helping the superintendent keep the greens in better shape and have better roll.
Great Course Close to Home
Good course. Tough challenge and the course is in good condition. Wish more of the players would fix their ball marks, but other than that, great place to play. My first time and I will be back.
Needs help soon
Overall a nice course that could be much better, seems they let it go a bit over the last few years, but prices are down as well. A few holes show the architects interest in a challenge and target awareness, forced layups to prepare for the approach.
Tees: A good selection of tees, (4) provide as much a challenge as you want.
Fairways: Some very wide, some a bit narrow, most holes everything right in front of you.
Bunkers: Un-raked COVID era bunkers. Good amount of sand.
Greens: are in bad shape, many bare areas, many deep marks.
Nice course
Well maintained course with some great challenging dog legs. Hard to find a last minute tee time but if your planning ahead good choose for the area.
