#1 tee looking straight down fairway to the green Photo submitted by BigJimSportSlam on 07/08/2013
Cold windy day
Cold, windy. mid-march day course was very well. kept, bunker's well-groomed.
tough course
this is a challenging course. most holes not too long, but there's almost no level lies in fairways on this course. course was in ok shape for winter play.
I did not like finding out at the 1st tee i was partnered with 2 other guys. I signed up as a single golfer, i play as a single golfer. turns out these guys must have been a 50 handicap, not a good match, and glad i wasnt polaying with them. The guy should have said something when i checked in though.
Stay away.
Sand mounds in the traps. Fake green on number 4. Some of the tee boxes are in awful condition.
Always worth the trip
Course was in great condition, grounds crew have been doing a lot of work on keeping dropped leaves picked up and making property improvements, looks great!
Staff is very helpful, going above and beyond when I realized I had dropped my wallet in the parking lot. Brian went back to the course to look. Thank you!
Great Condition
The course was in great shape but we would have liked to see yardage markers. The pace of play was terrible theyt had a fivesome that were also playing slow had the who;e back nine so backed up we laeft after the 14 th hole
Jarred the first hole from 20 yards
CLANK!!! Right in the bottom of the hole for birdie!! Great way to start. Having arrived early and aloud to head out, with zero practice after a 90 minute ride, I didn’t find out how fast the greens were till the 2nd hole that I promptly 3 putted.
Going from the criteria I used last week to rate another area course recently, 5 stars for service, pace, overall good conditions and deal. 75-80% tee to green. Just over 3 hours to play after a group let my 2 some thru on the 3rd hole. THANK YOU for doing the right thing . Few areas around were rough, but it’s been hot. Greens were fast and in above average condition. Got into 1 bunker and it didn’t seem to be sand, but what I can describe it as broken up sea shells. Very small pieces allowed my wedge to glide easily thru.
Galen Hall being a road trip to get to will not be in my rotation. Have made the trip 3 times in 5 years and will not count out returning. The deal, situation and opportunity would have to all come together for me to return. I would recommend playing. And would play more if I were closer.
Super Shape
Course in best shape I. Yes..They finally improved the cartpath on #2...GREAT JOB.....Fairways, teeboxes all very nice, but the greens putted so true like a dream.
Course is NOT easy
..1st time players should play the front tees to get a better feel, even if you are a long ball hitter.. Par 3's are especially hard from tips....#15 is one of the most unique par 3"s anywhere! I actually think #4 and #17 are tougher than this island hole. Anyway, take a cart as it is a long, tough walking course....
Good luck!!...I need to go back soon and get revenge as I shot 90 and played well.
tilly golf course
Played this course on the 4th weekend. It was in great shape ! Pace of play was great for a holiday weekend. The staff were great both in the pro shop and bar. Thank you !
Classic
Hiden gem
Theres a reason this course is still open after more than 100 years, it's a classic. Findlay and Tillinghast put together a beauty. Start to finish a challenge. This course makes you think about every shot. I loved it. Peter in the Pro Shop was helpful, friendly and courteous. Overall a great experience. Thanks Galen Hall keep up the good work!
