Aced this place
This course has its rough spots but looks like they are working to get in shape. There was plenty of elevation changes and the greens were in good shape.
You do not pass the clubhouse after 9, so they do have a cart girl that comes around.
The one bad mark on the day is the locals who cut in at 10... we had been following a twosome the whole front 9 and when we get to 10, we are now following a 4some. I guess they let the first twosome go through, but not us, so the back nine got kinda slow at times as a few of them probably went through a dozen golf balls.
The highlight of the round was the Ace on the par 3 107 7th... it is slightly uphill and we thought that the ball just went over a ridge on the green...
we got to the green and when we didn't see the ball on the green, we realized what happened!!!!! WooHoo My first
Winnapaug is the DAWG
Awesome public course and great food. Well worth it.
Thank you! We appreciate the positive feedback. We hope to see you back soon!
A Classic Comeback
Winnapaug is worth a trip now and hopefully in the future. This Donald Ross course has excellent greens but the rest is still shaggy. The question is are the owners putting the $ back into the course? Any course by the shore in RI beach turf charge a good sum in the summer. The competition in the area for your dollar is now steeper than ever. Winnapaug must improve the tees and fairways to compete. Way too many bare spots on the fairways. The greens are tiny and you can see that over time they have gotten smaller as the distance between greens and supposed greenside bunkers has increased. Ross laidout a fine tract and the fact you get to see the water on holes 10-13 is still a treat. Please give the greenskeeper and staff the funds they need to keep bringing it back!
We have put a lot of effort back in to the course. Come back and give us another try.
A Hidden Classic
This course is being brought back from some years of lacking care. A lesser course would probably have gotten 3 stars, but this is a great layout and the greens were beautiful. The rest is coming along. On a nice morning, playing a Ross design on the ocean is about as good as it gets for me. Nice folks, too!
Come try us again this year! We've gotten even better!
Thank you for the four star rating!
labor day weekend gem
Was driving home to New Jersey and used golfnow.com to find course on way home. Great find. Turns out I played a Donald Ross course, Triggs Memorial in Providence, RI, the previous day. Pefect day. Fairways could use some water but greens in great shape. Good old rustic, New England course. Hole #12 overlooking water was very cool! Look forward to playing this Fall!
It's been while, come on back soon!
Typical Ross, fun and challenging.
A great Donald Ross design. Amazing views of the ocean. Tricky greens that can be small at times. Challenging holes like 14 and 18 but playable. It is just a shame to see a Ross course in poor condition like this one. Fairways need water, many bare spots.
I think it's time you come back and give us another shot!
First time there, difinitely a replay
Late in the fall, on the course facility for the wife were removed so it turned out to be a bit of an issue. Otherwise, we enjoyed the day.
fun course to play
not in the best of shape . cart paths are horific. the views of the Atlantic Ocean are good. Each hol;e is different and has a different challenge.
