The 18-hole Sanctuary Golf Club At Cat Island (previously known as South Carolina National Golf Club) in Beaufort, S.C. is a semi-private golf course that opened in 1985. Designed by George Cobb, Sanctuary measures 6,673 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 136 and a 72.6 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.
Sanctuary Golf Club may be the Lowcountry's best conditioned golf course. With velvet tiff-dwarf greens, this George Cobb creation sports beautiful views of Port Royal Sound from many holes.
The course is located on a 400+ acre barrier island just a short 45-minute drive from Hilton Head Island. The layout takes full advantage of the wooded interior with centuries-old live oak trees in abundance.

Coastal Golf
Tough course to play if your swing doesn't have a left to right shot. Tight fairways on 50% of the holes, ocean winds on several holes also.
This is a very fun and challenging!
Had a great time...course was in top condition. Dan (golf pro) was very friendly and knowledgeable. Have played this course several times and always find it very challenging. Several holes have great views of the marshes and water that surrounds the course. Can't wait until we return to play this Golf course again......

Sanctuary
Greens really smooth and true. Tough course from back tees. Great layout tough finishing holes. Need to see it a time or 2 to understand where to miss.

A shot makers course
First time playing this course, beautiful scenery. Very nice layout, we were fortunate to be playing with someone who was familiar with the course and some of the not noticeable hazards from the tee box. The score card doesn't show a picture of the holes. Nice layout, looking forward to playing this course again.

great value for a good course
course was in great shape..pro shop was friendly...had a great 9 hole rate which is rare....will be back...only drawback is restaurant not open on mondays...

Nice and green. Too bad the rookeries are starting to thin.
just a great course
I've played most of the courses down here and this was probably one of the best and most beautiful of the public courses down here. The front nine with it's water views made you stop playing golf for a minute and the back nine was a nice walk in the park. Really a great experience and I definitely will be bringing visitors when they come down.

Hidden Low Country gem
Course is my favorite to play when I visit Beaufort. Really good shape. Greens rolled great and scenic layout. Great value for the money.

Course in Great shape
I have played this course several time before and found it to be in the best shape i can remember. The fairways were lush and the greens were beautiful. Smooth and true.

Beautiful course
We played on the 4th of July and were paired with a local couple that were great. The first 3 holes are blind and they were like having our own personal caddy. They were able point out where and distance to hit the shot. Water or the marsh comes into play on a majority of the holes but carries are where an average player can easily carry it. The fairways were all in great condition and well maintained the course appears to be lightly played as there were few divots. And the greens are very large and not blemish. We saw deer a couple different times that appeared almost tame. There's a couple different bird rookeries on the course. I've paid 3 and 4 times more to play but this was one of the best courses I've ever played.
We're so glad you had such a wonderful time with us over the holiday weekend! Great company, good course conditions and even some wildlife sightings... What more could you ask for?!?! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
A Wonderful 60th Birthday
My wife and I visited the best golf course we have ever played for my 60th birthday. Sanctuary was in excellent condition and Dan and Erin were so friendly and accommodating. The tees, fairways and greens were in such great condition. The wildlife was all over the course and made for great pictures. Not only did we play on my birthday, we skipped going to the beach on Sunday and returned for another round. Again, thanks for the memories.

Good First Time
Over all, I am very pleased with the Sanctuary Golf Club. I was lucky enough to be paired with someone who played close to my game and that made the experience enjoyable. My only displeasure was that the greens had been recently aerated and was not informed at booking. They putted fair but not the same.
The snack bar was the only negative, it did not open till 11 am. I will definitely play this course again.

Best value in the area
This is by far the best course in the area. Not just for the money, but period. The layout is fair, but challenging. The scenery is beautiful. Stayed on Fripp for the week and drove past their courses everyday the go to my "Sanctuary".

Hidden gem
Greens were great very challenging layout was nice not long but you had to work your way around the course no marshals out nor a starter overall I enjoyed the course

Other than the score it was a great round. One of my favorites in the Beaufort, Bluffton area. Hard to get used to the speed of the greens after playing the redneck courses around Santee..Really enjoy the course. The staff and the beautiful views.. Thanks, Bud
good layout, fun course to play
great course, enjoyable and pace of play was excellent . Course in very good condition, greens firm and fairly quick. carts and club house facilities excellent. Pro shop , 19th hole personal and cart boy were super.
Cat Island
Very picturesque golf course with some great scenery along the water. The course was in okay shape. grass seemed quite sparse on the greens which made them very fast. Pace of play was excellent as not many out on the course. Paid $16.00 green fee on Golfnow so definitely a good rate and great value for that course. Staff at pro shop were not overly helpful. Not discourteous or rude but did not offer any assistance as to where to get cart, hole number 1, etc.
Best layout in region but need love
