This is what a course looks like right before closing
Perhaps the worst golf course I have ever played. The fairways and greens were in terrible shape. The one and only day that I played there it looked like the fairways were not owed for at least two weeks, no exaggeration. I lost three balls in the middle of the fairway because the grass was so deep. I should have known it was going to be a bad experience when I pulled in a the parking lot and there were only five cars. This may be one of the cheapest rounds you find on line, but I would not play there again even if the round was free.
The old rule, you get what you pay for is true. I got it for $10 for 18, sorry to say, I overpaid
Worst course I've ever played. They should not be on Golfnow . It's aweful.
This is the worst course I've ever played. It should be taken off Golfnow .
Going in Wrong Direction
I haven't played a worse maintained course in all my years of golf. I played this course in 2008 and it was great. Yesterday was much different with unmoved tee boxes and fairways, with grass deeper than roughs at other coirses. I lost 4 balls in the fairways. Parts of greens were burned out and other parts were infested with fire ants. The greens fees were low but not enough to entice me to return until the course improves it's maintenance.
All the rate was very cheap, there are only nine holes to this course so you have to play them twice to really get your moneys worth for the price you're paying. We played from the championship tees and the boxes were not even mowed! The grass was way too high on the tee boxes and the rest of the course was for poor to mediocre. The greens were in bad shape. I have played several courses in this area and paid the same rate and had much better experiences at those places. Lesson learned, I will not play here again.
This was a pretty good course some rough greens. Can't wait to play again!
I took my 12 and 13 year old sons here to golf 9 holes. None of us are great or even good golfers, so we wanted to stay out of the way of more experienced golfers. That we did, no one else was on this course. The empty parking lot should have alerted us, but these were the worst greens I have ever seen in my life! Crab grass, sand and ants are about all that you'll find here! We knew it wasn't a premium course, but it certainly not the Hilton Head golf experience we were expecting. Pay a little more and play elsewhere!
http://www.oldcarolinagolfclub.com/course/ It even says its in poor shape LOL
You were expecting way too much for the price. Sorry you were disappointed.
Right price here. Challenging course. Will play again next vacation. Some rough greens and tees. I'm sure this place was in excellent shape in its prime.
Went with my son and nephew. Good course for kids to just whack some balls around. However, greens were in terrible condition. Could not even teach kids how to put because there was no more than 5 feet of green to putt on without it being dirt or completely damages green. Would not recommend. Although cheap, and nobody else on the course....tough to teach the game to kids. A little TLC would do the course wonders.
Old Carolina, Hilton Head
Nice owner, but this course should be shut down. Absolute worst course I ever played. Half of the greens were dirt - you could not even putt. Crab grass took over the entire fairways. Tee boxes were not mowed. Not sure how they stay in business- I was literally the only one on the course, I guess others know as well.
Stay Away, very far away
Tee box had weeds/crabgrass 4 - 8 inches high. Greens had very little grass and fairways can only be enjoyed by a heard of sheep.
Really? The course wasn't even open July 4th.
Really? I thought it was a very plesent course for $16. That is for 9 holes with a cart. Some folks expect Augusta National I guess?
The course is a very pasture with no evidence of any maintenance including not cutting the grass on the greens or tee boxes. It is unplayable.
Bank owned - terrible condition
They need to take this course off of golf advisor. If there was any staff available, I would have tried to get my money back. Only played 9 holes. That was 9 too many. Course is unplayable. Gave up putting after 2 holes. Awful!!! It's a joke that one star is the lowest rating I can give.
You get what you pay for.
Honestly I have never played on a golf course in such poor shape. Wanted to take my beginner daughters out so the price ($11 per player) was right. Club rental ($25) was a bit high in my opinion for such a course.
Fairways and greens in terrible condition. Seen better cow pastures. No matter what the price it's not worth playing.
Course in rough shape
Exec 9 hole needs tlc Course has not been kept up Greens not in good shape
Sad excuse of a course! No grass, all weeds and anthills
Good layout course lots of potential
Course is the worst I have ever seen no maintenance from tee box, fairway not even cut.Grass over 15inches and greens was horrible no grass just dirt.Overall course should be closed for maintenance. I Waisted my money.
where is the grass?
This course needs a LOT of work! the fairways were all weeds and Sandy soil. The greens - were slightly green and mostly compressed sand. Was told that it will now get watered and sprayed. But don't see that it would be playable until next year, even if this happens. On the plus side, the carts were quick.
Not a course, but a field of weeds
I don't like to give negative reviews, but I felt people needed to know about this course. I missed the turn into the course and drove by what looked like it was once a golf course but had reverted to weeds due to lack of care. Unfortunately, we were driving by the first hole of the course, and it was worse than it appeared from the road. We jokingly called our experience "prairie golf," and that pretty much sums up the experience. I awarded two stars because the lady who worked in the clubhouse was so nice and accommodating, and because the clubhouse looked so professional that it was hard to believe the course conditions could be as bad as they were. If you need to practice getting out of bad lies and playing in sand, then this is the course for you. Otherwise, save your money.
