Old Carolina
Ed had taken over ownership/Management of this course just a couple of weeks prior to our round. He was honest about the course and said he hoped to bring it up to an acceptable level of play for a family friendly course. The course had been neglected for several weeks prior to our round and the conditions reflected it. Cups were overgrown and had not been cut in weeks. Greens were burnt due to lack of water. At the price we paid, it was a fair value and we had the course to ourselves.
I look forward to playing again in the fall after Ed and his crew have a chance to bring this course back.
Goat Ranch
New owner is working hard but has a long way to go.
Sad
When it was and 18 hole course it was great! In it current shape; bare spots, poor sand traps and dead greens makes you want to avoid this course.
Terrible course conditions
Worts conditions I have eve seen. Ants. Bald. Weeds
Used to be a very good course
Only 9 hole course now. Minimal maintenance. It looks like its days are numbered to be open. Shame was a nice course in its day.
Aweful
Truly disappointed. Went out with another father and our two sons. Not nearly representative of the golf courses that the Lowcountry has to offer. In fact, most park district courses in the Midwest are far superior than the condition of this course. Not worth the money; in fact, don't bother playing if this is the only course in your budget.
This course is BAD
This course was the by fare the worse course I have ever been on!!!!!!!!!!!!! No fairways, Greens burnt cups loose and sticking out. Was like playing in a sand trap with weeds. Would recommend this course to anyone. Save your money and go to the bar.
Worst course ever
This was by far the most terrible course I have wer played. There were no fairways to speak of as it hadn't been mowed in several weeks. 50% of each green was burned off and now just hard packed dirt. The other 50% percent was to long to consider a green. Every time I approached my ball it was covered in ants. I cannot explain in enough detail how bad this course was
Terrible
The pro shop worker was there after we had arrived there. If you hit your ball in the fairway you have no idea its fairway. The greens are more of a fairway than a green. Worst course ive ever played in my life!
Old Carolina is an average course, very laid back atmosphere
Overall a very subpar course but very reasonable for a round of golf
poor conditions
nice layout. course is in bad shape and needs some tlc. was an 18 hole course that has been reduced to a 9 (it actually has 10 holes). some of the course layout has been adjusted to make fit within the property. rough is very rough as its like hitting from a grassy san bunker everywhere. DONT GO AND WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!
Good Layout, Poor upkeep
I liked the layout of the course. That being said, it looked like the grass hasn't been cut in over a month. The bunkers were poorly maintained. The greens were in horrible shape. With some TLC, this course would be great.
Worst course I have ever seen.
By far the worst golf cow pasture of a want a be golf course. My partner and I have NEVER walked off a golf course until that day. An hour and a half in, we were only on hole # 4. No ranger on the course. Fairways were nothing but sand and where there was grass it was 6 inches tall. The greens had no grass on it. Could not putt anymore than 6 inches straight. Divots all over the green. Was getting eating up by all the ants.
I asked for only a 9 hole reimbursement after talking to the club house and was told they would give us a rain check.
If we walked off why would we want a rain check.
DO NOT waste your money and time.
on a scale of 1to 10 /this course is minus 5
Course was not as advertised. It is a 10 hole course not 18 as advertised. It is in extremely poor condition. We will never go back, and will tell anyone who asks not to go there. We quit after 9 holes so we didn't get what we paid for
Place Has Gone Downhill
I played Old Carolina a few years ago and found it to be a fun track, so I was excited to have a chance to play and find a $15 tee time (w/ cart) for 18 holes. However, the course has really fallen into disrepair. The fairways are spotty, the greens are unkempt and they have let the bunkers go so they are just collection areas. They don't even have water out on the course on a hot day. My cart died on the sixth hole and I had to call the clubhouse for another one. With all that said, the layout is still a good one, and if you're just a hacker who would like to get out for a couple hours and chase the white ball around, you can do so here at a very low price.
Is there a sprinkler in the house?
Nice layout, but the fairways look like the Mojave Desert. On the other hand there is lots of water on the course. The other complaint is that the sand traps are actually limestone screening traps. Having said the above, how can you complain about a $9.00 round|? Also the staff was very friendly.
Needs water
Neat course that looks like it just needs use. Course appears to have fallen into disrepair with the economic meltdown of the last few years.
Challenging, small greens bring the level up but the fairways and greens need moisture to grow in thicker.
For the money I plan to play this course weekly while I sharpen my game. I played the whole round alone and never felt pressured to speed up and never had to wait.
You get what you pay for, if you're expecting tournament quality for the money then your expectations are too high.
Horse Pasture
They say this course was built on a horse pasture. It still looks like one. Worst conditions I have ever seen. Greens were horrible. Don't waste your time.
Course should close
This was the most disappointing round ever. For the first and last time playing this course, you could be in the middle of the fairway and have to place your ball on a patch of weeds to get a decent lie. I paid $56 for two people to play 18 holes and quit after 9 we were so sickened with the course conditions. Even if you are offered a free round at this course, I would not recommend playing.
A nice day at Old Carolina
Thank for a great day out with my little ones. We all enjoyed the course. Thank you for accommodating my crew. See you next time.
Well don't hold your breath because we played that goat trac 11/6/2014 and it was disgusting!
