The Windermere Club
About
Located just outside of Columbia, The Windermere Club sits along the banks of the lake that it takes its name from. Pete Dye designed the golf course, crafting a number of memorable holes. It's his only design in the Midlands. No two holes are alike on this challenging layout, so expect to use every club in your bag. The golf course offers a variety of risk-reward opportunities that will appeal to both low and high handicappers. There are also five, and sometimes six, tee boxes on every hole, making the golf course even more appealing for any skill level. The fairways are generous but lined with mature hardwoods and there are strategically placed bunkers to contend with. Golfers at The Windemere Club will also encounter subtle but tricky elevation changes and several lakes and ponds.

A course that will challenge your shot precision
The course was well maintained and it offered several challenging holes. This course has several blind and deep bunkers throughout the course. The greens offered very quick but challenging putts. The rolling hillsides around the greens require some very tricky lofted shots to make par. I would rate this course more for the mid to low handicapper for a more enjoyable round. Windermere does offer some great views around the course.
Pretty clear that there’s not a lot of maintenance and care going into this course. Shame, because the layout is amazing. Rough time of year to keep up the course, I know, but I have a feeling that even at the best times, this isn’t a course I’d come back to
Let's start with the positives: it was a beautiful day, the staff was friendly, greens were in pretty good condition, and the course layout is great (it's a Pete Dye, so you get a little bit of everything; elevation changes, blind shots, forgiving and non-forgiving holes, some water and a fair amount of well placed bunkers).
And on the other side of the coin, the negatives: bunkers in very poor condition, cart paths are terrible, there was mud everywhere, and pace of play was slow (started on the back nine and waited on almost every shot, made the turn and they had groups starting on the front causing a backup and slower pace).
I understand Columbia just had a lot of rain and an early spring, but the overall course conditions dramatically took away from the course layout and design. Probably should have been cartpath only, but for lack of good paths. Value was okay with a $30 HotDeal (and a $10 coupon for a net $20 round), but I wouldn't pay much more than that.
Good time
Had a good time, first time I played it. Will play again for sure.
Poor Conditio
Had to wait to get cart. Carts in poor condition; both carts batteries ran out of juice. Course in condition with lack of maintenance for sometime. Back nine should have been closed as it was too wet to play.
Great bang for the buck
Nice Course with a great layout, the clubhouse is great with friendly staff and the food is good. Range location to the first tee is perfect.
Most fun golf course I’ve played this year
I loved playing here so sick. There are so many fun different types of holes. No holes are alike so cool!
Staff was friendly no issues at the course. Course was extremely wet and in average shape but an enjoyable layout to play.
Glad to have played this course!
Greens were challenging! Fairways is some areas need to be drained properly leading to muddy conditions other fairways not enough water. But in general most were in great condition. Fun course overall and will play again when im back in the area!
Very wet, grass not great
The course was very soft and muddy in several spots. Lots of weeds in fairways and greens were rough.
