The Windermere Club
About
Located just outside of Columbia, The Windermere Club sits along the banks of the lake that it takes its name from. Pete Dye designed the golf course, crafting a number of memorable holes. It's his only design in the Midlands. No two holes are alike on this challenging layout, so expect to use every club in your bag. The golf course offers a variety of risk-reward opportunities that will appeal to both low and high handicappers. There are also five, and sometimes six, tee boxes on every hole, making the golf course even more appealing for any skill level. The fairways are generous but lined with mature hardwoods and there are strategically placed bunkers to contend with. Golfers at The Windemere Club will also encounter subtle but tricky elevation changes and several lakes and ponds.

Tired old lady
Course is nestled between a really nice neighborhood and some bodies of water and the views are pretty The layout is really great and could be a nice but challenging course. Unfortunately the course conditions are sub-par. Absolutely no sand in the bunkers. Cart paths are crumbling asphalt, greens were ok, fairways had some grass but that’s because of the cooler weather and rain. Come summer it’ll be a complete dog track. You have to be careful getting around as there are open drainage caps and gapping holes. It’s really pretty sad because you could tell it once was a beautiful track. I hope someone can put some money into it and bring it back to life.
Good value
Course has a great overall setup and they’re working to improve the fairways. The bunkers were simply not maintained and the cart paths are also neglected.
Staff was friendly, course was in terrible shape. Pete Dye would be ashamed.
Cart paths were horrible and the course conditions was not good. No grass on the fairways, tee boxes or greens. No sand in any of the bunkers. It could be a great course but there is not much effort on maintenance. Not worth the money. Staff was friendly though.
Greens
The greens rolled well and quick however, most of the cups were really beat up and no crisp edges. The cup conditions caused several lip outs.
Pretty clear that there’s not a lot of maintenance and care going into this course. Shame, because the layout is amazing. Rough time of year to keep up the course, I know, but I have a feeling that even at the best times, this isn’t a course I’d come back to
Let's start with the positives: it was a beautiful day, the staff was friendly, greens were in pretty good condition, and the course layout is great (it's a Pete Dye, so you get a little bit of everything; elevation changes, blind shots, forgiving and non-forgiving holes, some water and a fair amount of well placed bunkers).
And on the other side of the coin, the negatives: bunkers in very poor condition, cart paths are terrible, there was mud everywhere, and pace of play was slow (started on the back nine and waited on almost every shot, made the turn and they had groups starting on the front causing a backup and slower pace).
I understand Columbia just had a lot of rain and an early spring, but the overall course conditions dramatically took away from the course layout and design. Probably should have been cartpath only, but for lack of good paths. Value was okay with a $30 HotDeal (and a $10 coupon for a net $20 round), but I wouldn't pay much more than that.
Good time
Had a good time, first time I played it. Will play again for sure.
Poor Conditio
Had to wait to get cart. Carts in poor condition; both carts batteries ran out of juice. Course in condition with lack of maintenance for sometime. Back nine should have been closed as it was too wet to play.
