About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Originally opened in 1988 as a private club called Crickentree, the course changed its name and opened to public when it changed ownership in 1996. The golf course is known for its beautiful setting that has everything from meandering streams to towering hardwoods. There is also a scenic 17-acre lake that comes into play on a few holes. The risk-reward layout appeals to players of all skill levels. With good course management, the rewards are plenty, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The golf course is just over 7,000 yards from the back tees, equipped with holes that will please long hitters as well as shorter, trickier holes.

This course needs major work
The course had debris from the hurricane 10 days ago (expected) but the major problem were the greens were in horrible condition, almost no grass. The bunkers looked like they hadn't been touched in a year. Overall this course is not what it once was. Save yourself a headache and play somewhere else until they get it together
Not worth it
The course is in terrible condition and the person at the clubhouse failed to let me know there was a tournament going on, causing me to wait several times. Cart path is full of holes and broken areas.
Sad Conditions
This used to a very good course, course upkeep and greens and are sorely lacking. Very poor conditions.
On the downhill slide
Arrived at 8:30 and only three cars in lot ( bad sign ) rate was good and that is what brought us to this venue. Fairways had been mown but apparently had not been mown recently enough, piles of grass everywhere. same on the greens. To put, you had to clean the grass clumps out of you line and there were plenty of those. Course has always left fringe a little deep, but this time it seemed to be deeper than normal. If you stray out of fairway, was almost impossible to locate ball until you were on top of it. Virtually no sand in bunkers and only saw two rakes on entire course. When kept up this was a challenging but fair course, now, not so much. Spend a little more and make your golf experience more fun and enjoyable. Go somewhere else.
Don't Go
This course has gone down hill drastically. Greens have major issues, fairways weeded up, some tees are grass bare, rough is very deep due to lack of staff. This was a well respected golf course which is in a terrible state. Almost no one playing it. They should just close. Worst course I've played in many years.
Great Layout but needs some attendtion
This course has a great layout, with some really challenging holes that make you think. The only negative is it does need some work, the fairways are in average to below average condition, the sand traps need a lot of help, but the greens are in great condition balls land and stick and they roll true at just about medium speed. The staff was more than accommodating, when he found out it was our first time there, he gave us a yardage book for free, and I recommend you have one it was a great help. All in all we had a good time will go back again, and recommend you try it. I am sure they will keep improving the course as the year goes along.
Absolutely Atrocious
From the start, this was an unpleasant experience. The man behind the desk was condescending and pompous. He treated us as though we had never played golf before. Once we got onto the course, the experience only got worse. The fairways and rough were in horrible condition, and the greens were even worse. Not to mention that the course guide that we paid for was inaccurate and not helpful one bit. The course guide being inaccurate could have been overlooked had there been yardage stakes on the course, but there weren't. There is no sense of distance while on the course unless you have a range finder. This was by far the worst golfing experience I have ever had.
Its coming back
I last played here in March and swore I would not be back. I grabbed the hot deal from golf now and figured i would give it another shot and i am very glad that i did. You can tell they are working to get it better. The green actually have grass on them and are in much better shape some of them are still rough in spots but they are very playable. The fairways are good and the rough is ROUGH. The only thing I would complain about is some of the tee boxes were hard but i don't care much about that. Hopefully it keeps coming around and they can get this place back where it needs to be.
Hidden Gem in Suburban SC
Embeded in a suburban neighborhood in Blythewood SC, this course winds through forests, ponds and series of magnificent houses. The course is well balenced with challanging holes stretching over abundant ponds. Hole 17 presents the golfer a unique opportunity to skip the ball over glassy still water onto the green. However, the course is rough around the edges. Overall the friendly staff and spetacular design make up for its short comings, and make me return month after month!
What the course could be
Enjoy the course, but it really needs help.I really enjoy the challenge of the course, but the groundskeeping has really dropped off. Bunkers were terrible on some holes and the rough was very uneven. If they took better care, it would be a $40 a round course. Now, I will only play it for the cheaper GolfNow hot deal.
BEST LAYOUT IN COLUMBIA!
Played the course about a month ago and the greens have improved tremendously. The rough is a little high but I shouldn't be there anyway! What a great layout and the staff couldn't have been more friendly. You can bring your own beer too! I will definately be back soon! Pretty challenging as well.
It's in a nice neighborhood but not worth playing
The course seems neglected. The rough was way too high. Get ready to loose a ton of balls. Not worth it!
Greens have been Greatly improved.
I had been disappointed with how this once beautiful course had become so run down, especially the greens. I hadn't played this course in a few months but decided to grab a HOT deal on the 4th. I asked the pro shop man about the condition of the greens. He told me to come back in after my round and let him know what I thought. I was amazed at how dramatically improved the greens had become. Only 2 holes showed any signs of still needing a little work. The pro shop attendant told me the course had invested in some expensive fertilizer and was trying to bring back the greens to their once excellent condition. I will definitely try this course again in the next few weeks in hopes that this is the new norm for the courses condition.
Course still in very bad shape
Course still in very bad shape. The greens had brown holes with no grass in so many spots that it was almost impossible to putt. Some of the fairways needed grass cut - some of the tee boxes had no grass to tee up on. I understand the course has improved but still has a long way to go.
Such a shame too as the layout is beautiful and the course just needs care.
Even at $25 - this is not much of a deal
NO off course amenities AT ALL - No alcohol - no sandwiches - nothing - bathroom in terrible repair - knob came off in my hand
Worse golf course in a 50 mile radius.
Great course...greens in repair
Greens are in a state of repair. Staff was upfront about this and was the reason for such a great rate on a holiday weekend.
Was working within a tight timeframe and staff put me out on back 9 first and allowed me to get all 18 in with time to spare!
The layout of the course is fantastic...once the greens come back (pro said about 2-3 weeks), the course experience should be great!
Course Conditions
This course use to be one of the best courses to play. The condition of this course was absolutely horrible, the conditions of the greens were deplorable. I would not recommend this course to anyone. It will be a long time before i consider playing this course again unless they get it back into shape. To bad it use to be a great course.
Beautiful course
The greens were terrible and they have let a really hard challenging course unplayable It will take a lot of work to get back to the way it used to be
Not the best experience
I was somewhat surprised to find that on a nice weekend morning the place was practically empty spin arriving. I guess I should have realized that it was not in top shape before even getting on the course. The tee boxes weren't great, the fairways weren't terrible, but the greens were awful. I heard numerous times that with the cold weather the greens aren't great but most other courses greens in the areas have perked up by now. Several tee boxes weren't mowed and that's just flat out lazy. If this wasn't a hot deal I would have been more dissapointed, but the course conditions were the worst out of any course in the area.
Downhill
This is the first time I have played this course in a year and what a difference a year makes. The course has gone from just okay to bad. The greens are in terrible shape and I don't think they own a weed eater. Fairways are in fine shape but that is about the only good thing I can say about the course. I would not recommend it.
They couldn't PAY ME to play here again
It's like they don't even care and stopped trying a long time ago. Only paid $1/hole and it still wasn't worth it...
Course in unbelievably terrible shape. Greens infected (I guess) and apparently they have no access to lawn mowers.
Thanks Richard! The greens are even better now so come back and see us soon!
