MAZING COURSE AND STAFF
Got there right after s tournament. Pretty much had the course to ourselves. The gentleman behind the counter control have been nice. Gotta play this course.
Great layout, but greens were not so good
Had played here once before.....a year ago....and the course was wet, but the greens were really good and the layout is superb. This time....on Father's Day....the course was still a little wet from rain two days earlier, but tees and fairways are in fine condition. However the greens were bumpy and thin and slow....just disappointing since they are hybrid bermuda and should be thriving this time of the year. A local said that they had aerated 4 days earlier...which explains it....and I hope they recover. But just bad timing on my part. Wish the GolfNow posting would have indicated recent aeration....I would have passed on the 1 hour drive to get there and gone some other time. Overall beautiful parkland course...lovely trees, some water/lakes, big bunkers (albeit some had standing water) and no homes or OOB.
Will be back...but will call first to see about conditions. Great value when greens are in better shape.
The course layout is good and the views are great. My only complaint was they had just punched and sanded the greens. They made no mention of this prior to our Father’s Day round. The putts didn’t roll true and it made the greens unputtable. Other than that, the course was great.
Best kept gem of a course
Only issue I have is that I spent more using Golfnow, than they were charging walk ups, they were charging $25, I paid $27 plus Golfnow fee
Played in the summer, greens were a little beat up,, not this trip, greens were PGA tour quality. The dude behind the desk was extremely helpful also..A must play
This course should be on the bucketlist.Nice ppl, nice amenities, apparel is half the price of normal courses.1 to 2 weeks and the greens should be fully healed.I definitely love the tiny greens here.If this course wasn't 170 miles from home id definitely be bringing my crew down here.I expect the food offered to improve once coronavirus subsides and things get back to normal. Only complaint was no beverage cart running on Saturday, so just bring ur own cold beverages n ur bag like i do.The prices on golf now make this course a steal, even though its in the middle of nowhere. Hands down go play it.
Play it once a month. Great greens, plush fairways.staff is awesome to
best shape I’ve seen this hidden gem
The course was in spectacular form today. Greens were smooth, full and rolled true. The Bermuda rough was still thick and relatively deep in most holes and definitely made approach shots tougher. My only complaint is the free side bunkers were not turned and so played like a driveway in most cases. But I’ll put that down to recent rains and I shouldn’t have been in a couple of those. I’ll be back in a few weeks even though it’s more than an hour drive for me.
Cheraw State Park
course and greens in excellent condition. layout reminds me of Pinehurst courses. only negative is pace of play and sand traps need attention.
If this course was closer to my house I would be playing it every day. Great staff, they always welcome you with open arms. The greens are great, and the fairways are also. They maybe a little wet in some spots and a few bunkers had some water in them but that was cause of the rain. We played in 3 hours as a twosome, even after
Looking for balls in the woods a few times. ( not ours just because we caught up to a 4some the last few holes ).
Northern South Carolina Bargain Jewel
This state park off US 52 is a steal this time of year. With Pinehurst charging peak season prices, this is a reasonable option. Greens were superb, pace of play outstanding. Bunkers are hardly ever good in these kind of systems(state parks), but this way a joy, and we come here often. We easily played 36 holes in six hours, and one of us is almost 73.
Look forward to coming back !
The course was in terrific shape as usual and the weather was perfect.
Course is in great shape with beautiful scenery and views. Well defined fairways, rough, and greens roll true!
If you can handle the 90 minute drive from Charlotte this is one of the best courses around. Great place for golf buddy trip as they do have cabins to rent. Course is in fantastic condition for the price. Challenging layout with nice greens. If it were closer I played all the time, but then it wouldn’t be a hidden gem it is. Will be back soon.
