Rock the 'Rick
Always dependable County-owned course. Could use to have the greens aerated and rolled, but it's that time of the year. Several holes are unique to only Linrick, and that's when you better be able to hit a few good balls in play.
Linrick on a good Saturday.
The course was in good shape and well manicured.. The only problem was they had 6 players scheduled at the same time. We had a three some and they had a three some but they added one of their players with our group. We took it among ourselves to make the playing time and pace of play enjoyable.. Overall highly recommend and will be play again.
Great out of the way course
This is a county owned public course but is pretty well maintained. The course has some great holes that keep me of lull you into a sense of nice comfortable front side then throws some real challenges to you later on. The greens were surprisingly fast given recent conditions and seemed to roll pretty true. Definitely worth a little side trip to play.
Good bargain
Very reasonably priced County course. Greens were in great shape. Fairways were wintertime dormant grass condition.
Love the terrain
Greens were in excellent condition and fast. Tee boxes could use some attention. Love the layout and challenge of the golf course.
Very good layout
Very good course, greens were a little slow but over all this is a course I will frequent more often. Several holes were very challenging. Enjoyed my day on this course.
Best bang for the buck in Columbia
You're not going to find a better value. Changes in elevation don't make it suitable to walk if you're not a seasoned walker. Good design, with plenty of variation. Greens are self draining, so always a little faster than you imagine.
Course in great condition for the middle of winter
Linrick is always a pleasure to play. Greens are smooth and grass covered.
Good play for the price
Found a hot deal on golf now and was well worth the price I paid for 18 holes.
great value
Better than I expected
I live north of Charlotte, NC and it was at least 10 degrees warmer and a whole lot sunnier just an hour and 45 minutes south in Columbia. So my buddy and I made a short road trip to LinRick.
I have to say, when we pulled into the parking lot I was a bit worried that we had driven all that way to play a goat track. The clubhouse is quite dated, and the parking lot needs to be repaved. The practice range was pretty beat up and I was starting to feel like I made a bad decision.
But the people were friendly and the carts were brand new, so we gave it a go. The course itself was in pretty good shape, especially for late December.
There were some forgettable holes, and some tricked out holes (14 is a blind tee shot uphill, and a good shot gets you into trouble), but overall we enjoyed ourselves. #16 was a fun par 5 that I'd like to play again. The greens were a bit bumpy but I expect that in the winter. I bet they're in good shape when it warms up. I wouldn't make the almost two hour drive again, but if I lived in Columbia I'd definitely put it in the rotation.
Great Course
Every hole was challenging. Greens were fast. Fairways were ok but the rough was really difficult because of the kind of grass and the height of the rough. I would play this one again.
Excellent course
Challenging layout with soft, fast greens. You can use every club in your bag at Linrick. One of my favorites in the Columbia area.
1st time, but not the last time
I don't know where to start! I was SO impressed with this course! I was looking for a good deal at a course I'd never played before and came across this great find. It was a $10 Hot Deal and I had a $10 reward, so I gave it a shot and made he 1-hour drive.
The initial impression was not that great. The clubhouse is very utilitarian, which I guess should be expected from a county operated course. That all changed on the first tee.
Playing from the tips at 6,941 yards offers a nice challenge, starting with a nice par-5, of which there are 3 on the front side. The tee boxes were nice with plenty of grass. You could hit off the deck without a problem if so inclined. The fairways were in good condition and provided a good lie almost every time. It is important to stay in the fairway as the rough is penalizing. The greens were awesome Mini Verde and rolled smooth and true, and would hold a well placed approach shot. The course seems to favor a right to left ball flight, which was inconvenient for me as a fader of the ball, but I really enjoyed the hole layout. The fairways on the back 9 are a bit more narrow, so if you spray your driver you will be frustrated. The closing holes are great! What a challenge! Put on your big boy pants for holes 13-17.
The only negative I can post is that I was paired with another single who also took advantage of the Hot Deal. I enjoy meeting and playing with new people, but as a 8 hcp being paired with a 30 hcp made for a long day. The pro shop would not let me take a separate cart so I was stuck. We let a twosome play thru and were caught by two 70ish gentlemen walking. Nice guy, just not up to par. LOL.
GO PLAY THIS COURSE! You won't be disappointed.
Bring your own lunch. The hot dogs need help.
Awesome experience and great value
It is amazing how this Richland County Recreation Department course presents itself in such good shape, round after round. They are doing a fabulous job with a limited budget, kudos to the GM and his team. I will come back many more times!
