Nice course
Course was nice layout good very easy to walk greens was nice for this time of year slower then most of what I played this year.
Can't recommend
First off they do not sell beer. So if you like to sip on a beer while playing stop at the store first. And they don't offer cooler either.
No water on the course-each jug was empty despite temps in the 90s.
Played behind a FIVESOME of women for 12 holes before they mercifully let us play through. This was despite the fact that the Ranger was seemingly following us around the course but never intervened to allow the faster TWOSOME ahead of a FIVESOME. But I digress.
The fairways were nice, the greens were hard as a rock from the fairway yet sandy/slow while putting. Some of the blue tee boxes were barely playable. It's a good "value" but you're still paying basically $50 if you purchase anything else. Fees should be closer to $35.
Decent value
Pretty good value. I find the course to be one of those course where it would have been much better if they had bought a few more acres. Too many of the real short dog leg type holes. Better for the average to poor golfer, as a good golfer should find little challenge at this course. Played on a Saturday morning. Mid-morning and had sprinkler system running wide open on three holes. Many other holes where a part of the fairway was little more than a swamp from heavy watering. Pretty good greens. Traps and tee boxes are spotty in quality and condition. Decent value, but play tends to back up, and because of their watering schedule I wouldn't recommend an early tee time unless you wear mud boots.
popular local course
The course is well maintained and well managed, though the shop people can be a little abrupt. I play here 6-8 times a year and find the course is in good shape throughout the year. The greens are always well manicured and the fairways have good body. Some of the tee boxes get a little bare. Because of the popularity of the course it can get crowded, especially on the week-end, so pace can be an issue. However, mid week, unless there is an outing or a high school match, getting on and around isn't a problem
Solid Choice
Nothing too fancy about Southern Oaks, just a nice place to spend a couple of hours. The course was in very good shape, as usual. Good balance of tight holes and wide open ones. Not a long course, but a good number of holes that force you to be creative - which makes for a much more enjoyable round for me. Overall, an excellent choice if you're in the upstate. Can be a little pricey on the weekend, but nothing out of the ordinary.
The course is tough but fair.
The greens were in excellent condition and very fast! Fairways good but problems with leaves.
great price for the play
Will play again at that value. Course was in good shape and play was quick.
5+ hour round
Great course, great shape BUT as always they pack them in so expect a 5 hour+ round....I've never played this course and it not taken over 5 hours and that's a little frustrating.
I have always liked this course
I have always liked this course. Nice variety of holes. Nice landscaping. It is a fun course to play.
A great value
This course is pretty well maintained and an overall great value for the price. I look forward to playing it again. FYI, the grill in the clubhouse is cash only.
Always busy, very slow pace of play
I live close to this course, but don't play here very often due to the excruciatingly slow pace of play. I feel like they space their groups too closely, and you just crawl around the course. It's a nice track, but just can't play that slowly. No rhythm.
