Challenging with a view
Wonderfully laid out course. Each hole has its own unique view and a different challenge for every level of golfer. From thread the needle shots to wide-open, better lay-up. Of course there's the tempting go long or pull-out another ball opportunity. We loved the course, pace of play, staff super friendly and a great value.
Great Golf Experience
Great layout, and great overall golf experience. Every hole is different. There is a cool Pub, and everything has a historic vibe. Very different from the typical courses in the area.
Inexpensive round of golf
While the club house area was filled with beautiful mature trees, the rest of the course was lacking some charm. Greens were slow, so they are forgiving for a newer golfer. It was quiet and peaceful play except for the gas golf carts. Overall, it was a in good condition and where else are you going to play a round of 18 for $50?
Good value
The course is a value for the price. Greens a little slow but overall average conditions. Unfortunately for us it had rained the day before and played with cart path only restrictions and wind. So it was very difficult for average golfers.
This course is a great course to play
My great nephew and I went golfing here. We really enjoyed the course and the challenges. If you havent ever played here give it a try. You will enjoy it and want to return again
Value for price paid
Course was in good condition, challenging layout and overall, a good golf day.
Satisfactory
This course has potential. Great layout with every hole different than the others. Conditions could use some work. Rough areas were mostly hardpan. Fairways were spotty. Greens were perhaps the slowest I've ever played. I'm not sure whoever mows the greens knows what he's doing. The edges of each green the grass was longer because he raised the blade too early. As far as I know, most places mow the perimeter of the green first to prevent this from happening. Overall, I give the course a satisfactory rating. I've payed more for worse courses.
Great course
Our foursome had a great time playing Wedgefield. The fairways and greens were in very good shape considering the amount of rain that had previously fallen. The clubhouse is a jewel that it well worth visiting for a refreshment or two.
If it rained recently…
Nice course overall. Unfortunately, it had rained overnight and there was still a significant amount of standing water which impacted our game. So a word of advice, if it has rained recently, you might want to try again on a dry day. We were pleasantly surprised that it was not cartpath only, which was a huge help.
Good Bones
Wedgefield Plantation has been around for awhile and has seen some tough times, but the new owners are taking the steps to return this facility to prior glory. The course is a shot maker’s delight -excellent greens, very good fairways and traps and, as other reviewers have noted, the rough is “native grasses”. However, the Club House and grounds , stately oaks adorned with Spanish moss, is gorgeous, the Brick House pub is beautiful, and plenty of updates taking place. It is a drive from Myrtle Beach but one I found well worth it. I’d return.
