Best Value in Columbia .... The Club at Rawls Creek
With the location of the course centrally located in Irmo, it is very easy to play a quick 18 & get back home. For the Value/Time for a moderate Golfer this is by far the Best in the area.
Not bad not great
Dropped in to play 18
Back 9 was packed so I played the front twice. Course was easy and some of the greens could use some work
Overall not the best or the worst
The staff is really nice
Good Golf value - fun course layout
My son and I played for first time 7/6/14. Staff was friendly and had nice relaxing club house showing golf and mulitiple flat screens. Cart path in somewhat disrepair and gas carts were slow but needed the power since is a very hilly course. greens patchy on front 9 but nice on back nine. Over all good golf value and will play again.
Course is fun.
My son and I try to play when he is visiting from Knoxville. We decided to play because we live close. We have played here once before, though I play more often. We enjoy the course because it is not real difficult, but you must think and hit good shots to play decent. You can get in trouble with some of the sand traps. When it has rained the course is in decent shape.
So much potential
I really liked the layout of this course. The course offers decent challenge in both the distance and the steep hills. Sand traps are well placed to make you think twice about going for it or laying it up. The #9 hole is easily the best of the lot in my opinion. Although I really liked the layout of the course, it does not excuse it for the terrible condition it is in. I played Rawl's Creek a few months earlier and the greens were in shambles, while the fairways and rough were practically indiscernible. I chalked it up to them getting over the winter break so I decided to give them a pass.
Unfortunately, it looks like that is just how the course is meant to be. The majority of the greens had huge patches of green missing, we're talking 6-10 meters of chunks missing. One hole nearly 75% of the green was missing, so you're basically putting off dirt on the greens. Other holes had so many holes and patches of missing green that you might as well have been playing on aerated greens. This was a travesty as I'm sure in its prime, these greens could have provided a true challenge with the way they were shaped.
I went as a party of 3, two of us played through GolfNow for ~$18 while the third had to pay the full price of $35 on the weekend. Until they decide to actually put some money back into the course, I cannot justify paying $35 to play the course in that rough of condition. For the GolfNow rate, I could see us going back again just for a change of pace, but I really hope they invest back in the course by then because it really is a fun course.
Nice layout course in bad shape
Love the course and the layout but the greens were horrible
wow, absolute worst course I've ever played
Well if you want to hit the ball a long way, this is the course for you. The fairways are similar to concrete, expect long drives. Hard as a rock. Greens are terrible, have pothole-like craters in them. Dont drive on the cartpaths unless you want to visit a chiropractic clinic the next day. On the pro side they actually have sand in the bunkers!
Do not play this course right now
This course was TERRIBLE. It has the potential to be a good course, but it has fallen off the wagon right now. The greens are awful, with grass hardly growing on most of them. Pin placements have to be placed in the 5 foot area where there may be some green grass. The grass itself, is not maintained, and looks like you're putting on a backyard. Because of that, reading them is a lost cause, and we ended up just taking a stroke off our final score on each hole because they were so bad. Some greens weren't even worth putting on. We just picked up and moved on.
The fairways are average, but poorly maintained as well. This is the first course where I've experienced ZERO yardage markers in the fairway. Yes, there are 100, 150, 200 yard stakes, but when you're in between one of those, it is usually helpful to get some sort of a yardage marker on a sprinkler head. There were none on the course. Some of the bunkers are filled with grass too and absolutely unplayable.
The tee boxes are okay. Some of them are just dirt, with some grass sprinkled in. Unacceptable, in my opinion.
Overall, I'd tell you to go spend your money elsewhere. There are other courses, even in this area, that are better maintained. In my opinion, it's highway robbery that they charge $40 on the weekend to play this course. $30 during the week is even a stretch. Save your money, and play somewhere else, where the value is better. If the owners cared, which it looks like they don't, this course could actually be a decent course to play. But the greens are pathetic, fairways average to below average, making the whole experience not worth it. Go somewhere else until management decides they care enough to put some work into the course.
Not worth time or money.
First the staff is more concerned about having your contact information in case they feel they want to hold you responsible for any damage to the cart. A first for me, having to give out my contact info. As opposed to taking care of there course. Although the ranger was friendly I don't see the point of having one. They are not that busy and the course is in bad shape so I don't think anyone would try to play additional holes. I hope the ranger is a volunteer, if not they should put that money towards improving the course. The practice green which seems bad initially but when you see the actual course it seems to be one of the better greens. So from tee box through the fairways and the greens, they all need help, severely.
Great for the money
Rather hilly course there were a few greens that needed attention. Rangers and staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back to play this course again.
Decent course for the price
The deal I had through GolfNow was $25 for 18 holes with a cart, coffee, and danish. At that price, it's a good value.
Overall, the course is in fair to average shape. The worst was a green on the front nine that had a ton of clovers growing on it and a sand trap on the back nine that was barely filled. Everything else seemed to be in functional conditions.
Both the guy in the pro shop and the starter were extremely friendly and took the time to share some tips for the course.
It took my twosome about two hours to play the front nine and about an hour and twenty minutes to play the back nine.
From what I've played in the area, I'd rather play Timberlake Country Club, but this is a cheap, quick play. Hard to beat the value.
Good Course for the Money........ Chris
This course is a challenging course and location wise is a simple course to get onto & play.
For the money great course!
Good if it's on a hot deal
I enjoy the layout of the course but the greens were in horrible condition. The fairways were so so. Tee boxes 50-50. If you can get a hot deal for 18 holes for under $20 it's not terrible. If you live in Lexington it's convenient.
Nice Challenging Course
Enjoyed the layout, fairways were in good shape except for a few greens which were burned out and bumpy.
The only real negative is that its a tight little course with many homes on it and homeowners who have lots of dogs that are constantly barking which can be very distracting if you are on a tee box.
I did love the hills though and it was a nice layout.
Great people and great customer service
I've played this course around 5 times and have enjoyed it. The staff in the pro shop, cafe, and the starters were all really courteous and helpful. I was playing with two other people and we ended up getting stuck behind a five-some moving really slow. Then, 4 older ladies came up behind us and kept complaining about the speed of play and made the starter let us play through. The starter was great and handled the situation well. Overall, the fairways were in good condition and most of the greens were in good shape. A few of them were eaten up and bald. Usually, the rates for this course is $38.00 on the weekend and it is not worth that amount of money. I wouldn't pay more than $25.00 to play here. Overall, good experience and great day for golf.
Okay course, cheap to play
A few of the fairways were actually green, but most contained a mix of long brownish grass with some green. The course was challenging, but not for all of the normal reasons: yes, there are some elevation changes, the greens are steep, and the fairways slope to the right, BUT I also had difficulty finding my ball several times because it landed in very thick grass (on the fairway and approaching the greens). SOMETIMES I got improved distance on low shots because the ball kept bouncing in bare areas (on fairways).
Very friendly staff, very cheap to play (I paid $13 for 18 holes), but not one of the nicer courses in this area.
Nice layout
Enjoyed the course layout and elevation changes. A couple of the greens were in need of repair and also the tee boxes on a few holes were not well maintained.
Nice course, good atmosphere.
Good conditions, friendly staff, uncomplicated with the tee times, nice neighborhoods. We will come again.
Course needs some tender, love, and care.
Many of the fairways had poor grass. Most of the fairways even looked brown. Most greens had large bad spots where even some had a black moldy substance growing. Course layout is great and very challenging for an amateur golfer due to the tightness of the fairways and the sharp dog legs. I liked the challenge of the course and the scenery, but the course itself is in poor shape.
Excellent course and professional staff.
Play this course! It has great views and expertly maintained.
