Hickory Knob
This course is simply fun to play. Not too long but tight on several holes. Makes you think off the tee. For someone like me that only hits it 245 off the tee, there was only 1hole where I needed to move up.
Great time
set next to a scenic lake and well forested woods
it has wide fairways and challenging greens- Staff is amazing- Shout out to Ty and Diane on the staff
Go to Hickory Knob
Nice course, tough conditions
Second time to play and the tees have too little grass and the greens were very inconsistent. You could see where they recently cut the greens and a dry month didn’t help.
Will return but hope the state gives it the attention it needs.
Great course
I have played this course many times and it never disappoints. Anytime I have guests in town this is one course I make sure to bring them to. The staff has always been very friendly. I will continue to play here.
Pleasant surprise
Wasn't sure about SC State Park course but it surprised us. Considering all the recent rains, the course was in good shape. Fun fair challenging layout. No one on the course so we played pretty fast!! Very enjoyable.
Thank y’all
We’re trying to learn and need a fitness activity in our retirement years. Challenging and fun and the course is beautiful. The staff was awesome. Carts were clean and ran good. We didn’t feel pressured to rush but golfers were patient before and behind.
Some good, some bad
First time to play here. Drove almost an hour so wanted it to be worth the drive. Several tee boxes were scarce of grass. Some were small so not much room to move the boxes around. Greens were very slow but rolled smooth. Trap had sand but several were washed out down to their base.
I was a single on the weekend which is no man’s land but the back nine was very slow. A foursome in front of me wouldn’t let me play through and a FIVESOME behind me was waiting as much as I was.
Overall a good experience but beware of slow greens and hopefully no fivesomes on the weekend.
Disappointed
In the past I have played this course many times. It has been awhile since I have been here. The greens were very slow. If you had a five foot putt you had to hit it like you had a ten foot putt. The rough was so high I thought I was playing in the US Open. The ball would just settle down and it was hard to find no less having to hit out of it. So I was disappointed and will be awhile before I drive back up there to play.
Awesome Course!
Layout was so much fun, challenging and very cool. The greens were good but a little Sandy still. Bunkers were nice. Tee boxes were in poor shape. Overall, great course would definitely come back again.
Great layout on the lake
We’ve played here before. The layout around the lake is really awesome and everyone is nice. Unfortunately the greens were very long and very very slow this weekend. I doubt we would go back until someone confirmed the greens were rolling more normally.
A few odd holes, decent greens, bad bunkers, good fairways
Played hickory knob for the first time this weekend. There are a few holes with funky layouts, number 2 particularly is a bit gimmicky. The greens all had grass on them, and were slightly slow but not unplayable. Greens were not bumpy. The fairways had plenty of grass, so they were definitely playable. However, the bunkers were in fairly bad shape with grass in some of the bunkers and not much sand in others.
All in all I really enjoyed the round and would return. Earlier reviews regarding the greens not having grass are no longer true. Hope this review was helpful, I’ll definitely be back.
Worth the trip
Course was not crowded but pace was a little slow. Greens were decent but slow. Beautiful layout and terrain. Some very different holes. Will continue to make the trip and play 2-3 times a year.
To be a state course it was embarrassing
The greens were not good the fairways were fair tee boxes not good , the layout is fantastic, I don't think our tax dollars are being used at all on this site!
