Charleston National Golf Club
About
Marshland and natural lagoons make Charleston National a real gem to play. Architect Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead strategically placed wooden bridges over the natural areas which sometimes range from tee to green. Once tree laden, it's now a little more open, which may be to your advantage. A trip to Charleston National should be considered by any serious golfer visiting the Charleston area.

Pace of play 5 1/2 hours
Pace of play was 5 1/2 hours; asked ranger to let us play through, as group ahead of us EACH hit multiple shots on EVERY hole!; Ranger would do NOTHING! NEVER PLAY HERE AGAIN!
great layout and fun course
Fun course and taken care of , but it was way over booked. Starter was nice ,but needed a ranger for it took 6 hours to play and that's a long time to play when your wives are waiting at hotel to go out to eat. I would probably pay a little more and go somewhere else next time I go to Charleston.
Great Views and Well-Maintained
Course is in good shape with smooth greens. Pace of play was slowed up by a four-some in front. Often had 2-3 groups waiting at tee boxes. Good course and would play again with the golfnow discounted rate.
Pleasant round
Good-
fun course in good condition. friendly staff. Speed of play good for a busy weekend round
Bad
-Range is not even close to the course so warm up requires a very early arrival. No see ums come out in force late afternoon so be prepared.
Skip this course
This course is no where near worth the $$$$ they are asking for. The course was in ok condition. We played it from the tips and all of the tee boxes looked like they were mowed 2-3 weeks ago. The greens were in good shape but extremely unfair. There is not a flat spot on them and who ever was in charge of the pin placement was mad at the world. Every single hole was either 3 paces of the edge or on the side of a extreme slop and the green looked like the hadn't been cut in weeks. I am use to playing on hard courses and I play at a 7 handicap so I am not just giving this review because I thought it was too hard. The pace of play was terrible, it took 5 1/2 hours to play and we teed off at 11am on a friday. $93 a round is a joke for the course. $45-$50 would be more like it.
Nice course; had to wait on every shot;
Someone must have overbooked. Longest round of golf I can remember playing. Had to wait on every shot and not just a short while. some shots we had 3 groups on a tee box. If this is the standard for playing time I would not recommend playing again. However the course is a very nice and scenic course.
Wonderful challenging layout!
Played this course on annual buddies golf trip on 05/04/13. This is a very challenging layout to begin with, but 25 mile hour winds made it even more challenging. With the marsh, trees and water surrounding pretty much every hole, you better be able to hit 'em straight or bring a bag full of balls! Very well maintained course and friendly staff. Fairly priced. Would love to play again if ever in Charleston area.
Very nice course, some long holes, a few challenges.. Play was soooo slow though

Charleston National
We enjoyed playing golf at your course. But cart paths and fairways need attention.
Fun course. Long! Can be crowded. Don't accept AMEX.
The course is beautiful, long, and has great greens. All the par 3's are fun. My biggest complaint is that they don't accept AMEX. I was able to reserve the course with AMEX but when I showed up it they said they only accept VISA. Needless to say this was embarrassing in front of clients. I had to go out to my car and fish an old VISA out that I never use. The other complaint is the pace of play. We were jammed the entire day. They really pack the course.
Beautiful challenging course
This course was in great shape for the time of year. The greens were great for anytime of year. There are plenty of fairway bunkers and marsh areas to keep your attention off the tee. The greens all have a ridge or hump running through making it a challenge to get close to the pin while chipping and putting. You could safely add additional yardage to each hole as every single one plays uphill. Either elevated green or upward sloping fairway to an elevated green. Can play VERY long in the wind but still enjoyable.
We played the course 2 days in a row we liked it so much.
Well maintained, lots of tough carries
I saved Charleston National for my final round in the area and am glad that I did. Though it was March and many courses in the area played like concrete, this course had green tee boxes, green aprons, and well maintained greens. It's built in a swampy area so there were lots of carries especially on the back nine. If you're striping it you'll do well, otherwise bring extra balls.
Loved the course, it was in great condition and the scenery was fantastic
tee blocks all in good shape
fairways in excellent shape
greens were excellent, fast and true
will golf there again on my next trip to the Charleston area
Find another place to play
Conditions were terrible and staff unfriendly. A waste of a beautifully designed course. Fairways were brown and hadn't been watered in some time. Greens were among the slowest ever played. Pace of play was very slow with the round taking 5 1/2 hours. Ranger must be related to someone because he didn't have a clue. We were waiting 5-10 minutes between each shot and he comes up to us on the 15th tee and tells us to pick up the pace. What a shame because the course design is first rate. With some competent management the course would do very well.
Pleasant Suprise
Charleston National was a pleasant suprise. We got a good rate on a weekday time through Golf Now and were paired with two other players who also enjoyed their golf. The course is in a fantastic location with plenty of marshland scenery and wild life which was worth the greens fee on its own. Keep your eye out for gators whom are lurking near the water. I was putting a tee in the ground for a par three on the front nine and as I looked toward the pond there was a pair of beady eyes on a huge gator head that was staring at me from the bank.
The layout is fun and the greens were in great shape. The fairways were brown because of the dormant season but the lies were playable. The pace of play was a little slow but what a great place to spend your day. The staff were exceptionally friendly and that got the round off to a great start. I would reccomend this course to anybody visiting the Charleston are.
greens rolled true and smooth
Fairways were wet and soft from recent rains, there was no overseeding of the dormant grass in the fairways. The greens were smooth and rolled true. The course was built through marshlands and a residential community. I would definately play the course again.
Watch out for the gators on #3.
If it didn't rain I would have played here the next day too!
Charleston National
Charleston National is a beautiful golf course with a very unique layout, with several holes that belong on a golf calendar.
Challenging, yet enjoyable with many different looks on the approach shots and from the tee box.
Great value, and great experience.

longest round
course was in an expected shape for feb. brown fairways, weeds here and there. but for the price i would expect better. it seems the location is the only thing that lets them price this course up this high. they really pack the groups also. started at 1230 and did not get done till 515.
Scenic and challenging
The course was in very good shape for winter. Course was fairly tough and the strong winds didn't help. Greens were in very good shape and most had lots of undulation. Course knowledge is very helpful, this was my first round and on some holes it is very easy to hit through the fairway and into trouble. Very scenic, especially on the back 9. I will definitely return in the spring/summer when things are greener and I have a better idea what club to hit off each tee.
