Greens are rotten
Such a shame beautiful layout awesome course. Greens were unplayable need to shut down for 2 weeks completely redo it. They gave us 20 dollars off for Aerification but that is no aerificstion I have ever seen. Looks and plays rotted. Other than that great views and vibes
Don’t fall for the views
It was by far the most expensive municipal course I’ve ever played, and in the worst shape. There were no greens, they must have lost them but I can’t tell if there’s ever were any. Sand and Clay rolled together for the putting surfaces. I would stay away.
Plugged
The course was great. The people were great except when we booked you guys did not tell me that they just plugged the greens which makes a big difference. We would’ve never played there if I knew that.
That’s a strong no
I’ve never played on greens that bad in my life. That fact I paid $130 to play is insulting and to make matters worse, they claimed the greens were “late coming out of dormancy” which is absolutely false. They accidentally destroyed them in recent months and it’ll probably take a full season to get them back.
The people working there are great so don’t hold that against them. They just need to be honest. I would have paid $50 to play it out of convenience.
Disappointed
We were in the area for The Masters and wanted to play golf before we headed to Augusta. When I saw this course on Golfnow I was excited course presented itself on the website well, but the greens had a fungus and the tee boxes had not been cut. The price would have been okay if not for the conditions. Usually you are alerted to course conditions (areation) on the website.
I do want to point out that the staff at all levels were great.
Patriots point, very high for sanded greens and no military discount
Played this past Saturday, staff was very nice, pace was great, but this is a $80 course at best, sanded greens, not on the website or golf now, fairways are pretty bumpy, better to ride the paths, I was also disappointed that they dont offer a military discount, blew my mind, being Patriot Pointe, very over priced IMO, Golf, food, etc, 9 bucks for a beer and 9 bucks for a small range bucket,
Awful conditions on fairways
Some of the worst fairways I have ever played on. They all are uneven and have these dips and moguls where it is impossible to have a flat stance. In addition it is impossible to drive down them without it jostling your bag as well as your back. Needed a chiropractor after the round.
Also they had just aerated and sanded the greens. However, we were NOT warned about this as we would have played somewhere else. Plus, they charged the full rack rate! We were pretty angry about that.
I will say that the views of the area like the Atlantic Ocean as well as Fort Sumpter and the Ravenel Bridge were very cool. The closing stretch of holes of 16-18 were striking. On 17, it looks like you are hitting into the ocean! But that is a hard green to hit, even from just 120 yards.
The staff there is top notch. The guy checking us in, the starter, the young woman in the food area, the cart lady were all friendly and helpful.
However, it’s not going to make up for the horrible conditions at the price we paid that day. Even with the greens in normal shape, with so many other options in the area, I’m not sure I want to play there again.
Worst and most over priced course in Charleston
There are many courses with better conditions that Patriots Point. The current conditions are abysmal.. The course caters to out of town tourist looks for a golf course with great views, don’t fall for it! They have lowered their prices but $89 is still far too much to pay for this dirt track they call a golf course
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!
Initially I was excited to play this course, having admired it from afar. I knew that it paralleled the water, so the views would be fabulous. Prior to booking there, I touched on some reviews, and they were all over the place. I couldn’t understand how this course, with its breathtaking views and prime location, could be anything but great. Let me share the good… every person that I interacted with was super friendly, and yes, the views of the ocean were truly beautiful.
The bad… the course. Simple as that. I learned that the course had been built on an old landfill. Well, let me tell you… the fairways were the worst I have ever played. Yes, it is off season, so the grass was dormant, but this is the worst dormant course I have ever played. You could not find your ball at all. Everything is light brown… EVERYTHING. We were scrambling to find a colored ball because everything just blends in, and white balls were lost frequently. The fairway is filled with dips, for lack of a better term. The balls got little roll and were often stopped short in a dip. The tee boxes were uneven, and had long, bumpy grass on them. The greens were super-fast, with little tufts of grass sticking up, causing your putt to go in a completely different direction than the hole.
The ugly… the fact that I paid the amount of money that I did to play this course was a shame. I didn’t even keep score because I was so frustrated with the conditions. The course had a 90-degree cart rule, which I can respect on most courses, but I believe that this was put in place because of the dips on the fairways. Honestly, I have a bad back, and I was worried about slipping a disc as our cart hobbled over the large dips and runs. As I was walking to retrieve my ball (looking ahead as I always do), I stepped in a crater-sized dip on the fairway and came down so hard it hurt.
I believe that this course could be stunning if they were to redo their fairways and put a little work into their tee boxes and greens. They already have a great location and staff. However, at this point, I would avoid this course at all costs.
Over priced for the condition
Location and scenery is great. The course, however, is in horrible shape. Most of the fairways are in such poor shape with sinkholes you can barely drive the cart without your clubs nearly falling out. Unfortunately won’t be going back any time soon.
Ho hum
First the good news. The greens were in great shape and rolled well. The rest of the course seems to be setup to maximize profit over services. Course is not well manicured. No rest rooms on the course and fairways are very lumpy. Cart paths are dirt and not paved. Course layout is quite boring as you simply go up and back on most holes. Two or three nice view holes.
Poor green quality for price
Zero acceptable greens based on quality compared to price paid. No range balls available before our tee time. Very friendly staff and great views. Overpriced.
No Greens!
Course was in terrible shape, with basically painted dirt for greens. Can’t believe the course is open and charging money.
Good December golf
Not bad shape for December. Friendly staff, great pace of play, had early tee time
Great course!
The greens were in awesome shape. Rolled it pure all day even though I only made a few.
Obviously the views are awesome!
