The Golf Club At Star Fort
About
The Golf Club at Star Fort sits near the site of a Revolutionary battle known as the Assault at Star Fort. The golf course offers a family-friendly layout surrounded by the region's rich history. The player-friendly design is gentle enough for junior players and beginners, but it's also great for more advanced players who are looking for a quick round. It will surprise you with a few challenges too. At 6,952 yards, the golf course isn't terribly long but there are still some good driving holes. There are some interesting risk-reward par 5s and some fun par 3s that will make you think. Star Fort's final hole is a par 4 that requires accuracy over distance since you'll have to weave through two ponds before facing an uphill shot to a well bunkered green.

Bad attitudes, bad conditions...
My guest and I arrived at the clubhouse on time,
an elderly gentleman in the pro shop greeted us,
as we were checking in,
he made several remarks,
stating "the club doesn't make one thin dime on GolfNow bookings,"
he actually had the nerve and gall to ask, "why wasn't I playing at the club where I'm a member?"
( my club is closed every Monday for routine maintenance)
I was embarrassed by his remarks
as my guest was visiting from out of state and is a well known NCAA Scout,
this was not the way I wanted our experience to begin,
Feeling very uncomfortable,
I changed the subject by asking about the conditions of the course?
he proudly declared...
"they are the best in the county!"
we thanked him and headed to the First Tee,
we soon realized the greens were in terrible shape,
at the turn I inquired...
he replied they were suffering from a bad spring,
Note to Greenskeepe;r
if the greens haven't recovered by July 30,
they're not going to recover this season,
As a result of them being in such bad shape,
they were Shaggy...
Note to Greenskeeper;
Shaggy and bumpy is never a good combination for greens,
the fairways were nice,
the rough was up so high we lost several balls just off the Fairway,
when in the rough,
you could not see the top of the ball,
Spent too much time searching for balls just off the Fairway,
however in searching for our balls we found previous players lost balls,
sometimes stepped on balls without seeing them,
note to greenskeepers;
;the rough doesn't need to be so high you can't see the top of the ball,
(unless you're actually preparing the course for the US Open,)
it's penal as it is hitting out of the rough
even when you CAN see the top of the ball.
Much less the pace of play issue,
But I digress,
As if that weren't enough,
the cart paths are in terrible shape,
several were being repaired,
which is long overdue,
( I've been on on off-road courses that were smoother,)
The bunkers had such a thin layer of sand, the club immediately sliced through the sand to hard red clay,
there was no "splashing out" bunker shot,
the restaurant- bar had very good cheeseburgers and the Bloody Mary's were excellent,
the waitress was very nice.,
Thank you,
Wow...What a Turnaround!!!
Have played this course several times and it is usually in "ok" condition.
But today the fairways and greens were incredible. Greens were very receptive to shots and rolled true.
It is EASILY in the best shape of any course anywhere in the area.
Love the layout.
I will definitely be back!
Great old course layout
Played as a single, encountered several four and fivesome, all let me play right through with hardly any waiting.Pro shop guy was really nice, and as I was a single and several groups were teeing off on the front he had me go off the back, this was probably why I played a less than four hour round on a Friday on a fairly crowded course.i only wish it was closer so I could play it more often, but I will definitely be back as I had good experience.
Good value
This is a great course for the cost. The course was in good shape. Only complaint is that the cart paths are terrible. Don’t go if it’s cart path only, LOL.
Always enjoyable
I play here frequently, Course could use some restoration, cart paths are rough and hurt my back. Overall this is a nice layout with mostly open fairways some challenging holes. Most greens are fair. Course is fun to play but could use some attention almost everywhere. Staff is alway very friendly.
Could be something good
This course just needs Mother Nature - rain/water
Great items in the pro shop - staff was wonderful!!
Good course
The course was in very good shape. My one complaint is that the cart paths are in dire need of work. They are so bumpy you have to stay on the course or it will kill your back.
Don't expect too much and you will be ok
As long as you don't have high expectations of a fancy course, you will get a decent round for your money. People are very nice. The carts were all dirty on the exterior and the fairways were average (thin spots and weeds not uncommon). Agree with some other reviewers that the greens and pin placements were surprisingly challenging for this level of a course. I'm sure they are not as much a problem for the regulars!
Nice layout
I play this course frequently and always enjoy myself. The layout is somewhat challenging but not overwhelming. Relatively flat with some nice slopes, greens are somewhat challenging and require thought. Staff is always friendly!
Very playable course
Suggest that any groups over 4, have their own tee slots. Pace is too slow when fivesomes are mixed in with regular golfer groups. Very pleased with condition of course and the staff.
For a sunday, worked well
Does not seem right for allowing fivesomes during prime time. Really enjoyed the course despite slower pace
Good older course
Played this course many times. It’s a good value. The staff is friendly. It was in good shape for early spring. Greens roll consistent. I do recommend this course.
