Calhoun Hills Golf Complex
About
Calhoun Hills Golf Complex (formerly known as Calhoun Country Club) sprawls across Saint Matthews' gently rolling hills. The club offers a championship golf course that is woven through stands of towering pines and mature hardwoods. Scenic landscaping accentuates the course, blending in seamlessly with the beauty of the natural terrain. The trees come into play along the fairways but they are not the landscape's only hazard. A pond and a stream come into play on several holes, most memorably on the par-4 15th where golfers will have to carry the stream that cuts across the hole. Another challenging hole is the par-4 17th. Accuracy is required in order to navigate the dogleg left fairway and the well protected green. Calhoun Hills Golf Complex also has a driving range and putting green for golfers to use and there are also tennis courts for those who don't play golf.

Beyond dormant
This te of year you don't expect perfect conditions but, you do expect better than what it is. "Greens" were more like fuzzy mud. All tee boxes were in terrible shape. Uneven lies, hardly any grass. Although the scorecard had reasonable depictions of the individual golf holes there no overall course layout. Being my first time at Calhoum Hills it was very confusing as to the proper order of the track. Many tes I had to drive out fr the tee to get the perspective as to direction of the hole. And as far as driving the cart, evidently there are 'restricted areas' where the cart is programmed to shut down. These areas are not marked and I was not informed of their existence. I drove my ball into the middle of the Fairway and attempted to drive to play my next shot and cart stopped. I had to call Pro Shop and they told me to put cart in reverse and back out to non-existent cart path. And putting on the fuzzy mud greens was like playing putt putting golf..
Fun and challenging
The course was in relatively good condition for time of year. Grass was dormant but all in all the course was fun and challenging playing the rolling hills.
Great practice course
The front and back 9 are two different vibes. The front is far more open than the back, and way more forgiving, kinda forcing two different approaches to getting off the tee sometimes. All over the course you.can expect tight lies off of the greens, pretty fast greens, and some chances to open up.and bomb some drives.
Word to the wise, always play 10 and 18 to the back of the green, because on either hole the front will roll way back into the fairway.
Can't go wrong
Play this course. It's in great shape, from tee box to green, and the staff are fantastic.
Front very open , back 9 tighter
For the money it is well worth the drive to play. Greens were not great but playable. Very friendly , great pace of play. Very good value for the $. Will play again
Fun times
my wife and Iplayed 18 front wide open back narrower all and all great time
Solid course
This course is a diamond in the rough. Especially for what you are paying. The course conditions are nice and consistent throughout. The greens are ok but overall I highly recommend this core especially for people that are new to the sport
A course with 2 separate challenges
Front nine is definitely more wide open. The 2nd nine has a total different personality. Still open on a few holes but tighter with more challenges on ball placement. I spoke with a few employees there and from what I was told from them and previous golfers, it has come a long way. I thought the course was in great shape. The rough could have been cut a bit better, but as they say, hit it in the fairway, you won't have to worry about the rough. Challenging but absolutely not a hard course. Very enjoyable experience.
