Lake Marion Golf Course
About
Lake Marion Golf Course is situated in the heart of Santee, one of the East Coast's premier golfing destinations. The course is routed through a series of lakes and mature pine forests. Trees border the fairways and there are 47 strategically placed bunkers lurking beside the greens. Water also comes into play on a few holes. The gently rolling terrain provides elevated greens and subtle but tricky contours. The winding layout also has a few doglegs that can be hard to navigate. Don't let the challenges fool you though, the golf course is player friendly enough for beginners to approach with confidence. It is a favorite amongst both locals and visitors not only for the extremely playable layout but also the well conditioned greens that putt fast and true all year long.

A Good Golf Value As Advertised
Played Santee Cooper on our way down to Hilton Head for the 4th of July and decided to try Lake Marion on the way back. Was glad we stopped.
Staff are very welcoming, and the pro shop is WELL stocked with Foot Joys at great prices. I also picked up some Volvik golf balls cheaper than I can buy them on line. Drinks and food, like the greens fees ($30), are all priced fairly.
Unlike its sister course Santee Cooper, this time our cart had a GPS monitor, which was really helpful especially in judging distances to hazards off the tee and on approaches. That said, the greens are very large so it helps to have a rangefinder also because the difference between a front and back pin location can be 10 to 15 yards.
The course was in very good condition in early July. The greens were large and many had quite extreme slopes so putting was a challenge even though the greens rolled true. Tee boxes and fairways were also good. Course had what I would call resort rough - meaning it was only marginally longer than the fairways. Much less water than Santee Cooper.
The course is not extremely difficult, but challenging enough and requiring enough different shots to make for an interesting round.
Pace of play was good. We finished in 4 hours. Only had to wait and only got pushed a couple of times. One group of local ladies had played the back 9 first and were making the turn as we were teeing off on 1, but they just waited for us to tee off and then drove around us and we never saw them again.
I enjoyed both of my rounds in Santee. It's title "America's Value Golf Destination" definitely has more than a grain of truth to it.
No longer associated with GolfNow and affiliates
Lake Marion and Santee Cooper Country Club are no longer partnered with GolfNow and their affiliates. I booked a Hot Deal at Santee Cooper Country Club in September. When I arrived at the course, the didn't have a reservation for me in the system or the couple that arrived just before me. The staff got me out on the course. The same thing happened at the Lake Marion Golf Course yesterday -- no reservation in the system. The staff at both courses said that they discontinued their relationship with GolfNow in June 2022. Lake Marion was able to get me out on the course at my scheduled tee but charged me a discounted greens/cart fee. They said that they were not receiving any payments from GolfNow and that I would have to request a refund from GolfNow. GolfNow refunded my HotDeal payment and said that they would elevate the issue to get this courses removed from their booking system. If you're going to play either course, contact the ProShop or use the golf course website to book a tee time. I got lucky that the staff was friendly and was able to get me out even though I didn't have a confirmed tee time. You might not be so lucky if you use the GolfNow app.
I played by myself and played in 2 1/2 hours. They are refurbishing the bunkers so be prepared for the work being done. The rest of the course is in excellent shape.
Lake Marion
Greens were very fast.
Several sand traps are under repair und unplayable.
Overall a nice public heavily played course.
Why have a starter
Saw 2 fivesomess and what was either 2 groups that got so treed of the backup they played together it was at least a sixsome all teed off together, We had just 2 their was another 2 just 1 groups in front we were there well before tee time could of held them up or moved us up and teamed us up so we were not constantly waiting. We were allowed to play through the 2 groups of four before the round ended the other group of two must have played through the fivesome we ended up behind that was ridiculous. No collared shirts requirred and others playing in jeans. Not what I am used to. Course not in great shape, tee boxes ang fairways, greens were not that bad, consistent but on the slow side = course could be NICE, Course was what I expected for the price,
Golf at Lake Marion
Nice course and staff. Layout was challenging but play went quickly.
Excellent course
I loved playing today. Excellent staff and the curse was in Excellent condition.
Major bunker construction going on!!!
The bunker construction is major issue, please beware, this will be an issue for weeks to come. My reservation didn't show up at golf shop and the attendant thought the course didn't take Golf Now anymore. Pace of play was great, greens needs some care, fairways in good shape.
Golf
Nice cpurse to play on. Just alot of people go there and play is slow at times
But would definitely go back again
Good course friendly staff
I enjoy going golfing there. Put my bluetooth speaker on listen to music while playing golf with my family i would recommend this course to anyone. Its not rundown either
Average
Played the course for the first time. The course is in very average condition compared to the other courses in the area I’ve been playing. Tee boxes are overgrown and course doesn’t look like it’s seen water in months. The greens were the only bright spot
Best Course value for the area
The carts have GPS monitors in them for starters, so distance judging is automatically easier. Course was well maintained and nice. The pro shop is a Smorgasbord of equipment, accessories, and clothing.
Good layout
Course not in great shape. Fairways mowed the day I played, apparently for the first time in a while. Greens not good. Grass was thin and somewhat bumpy. Bunkers weren't playable. Little sand and had obviously not been raked in weeks.
