Waste of time and definitely money
This is a well laid out Golf course. Unfortunately the owners don't care anymore and it is and very poor shape. Do not waste your money or your time here.
Horrible Conditions
I played this course on 6/10/22. The fairways and greens were the worst I’ve ever seen on a golf course. The nicest part about this course were the sand bunkers. The cart paths were also terrible, with plenty of potholes and bumps.
I also accidentally left my wallet in a cart (on Friday afternoon), I called as soon I got home from my round and asked the guy working if anyone turned in a wallet of if he could check the cart I used. He told me no. I called Saturday morning, he said no one turned it in and he didn’t find it. Same guy that was working on Friday. I called again on Saturday evening and he gave the same response. I called on Sunday afternoon, and a woman was working the shop. She said it had been there since she got there to open that morning. He clearly lied to me, I had over $100 in cash in my wallet and it was magically gone when I went to pick it up. Did the worker or person who turned it in take my money? Either way, this was the most expensive round of golf I have ever played and it was terrible.
Convenient and good for the money but don’t have big expectations
Course was exactly what you would expect for the cost. Greens can. Use some work and one hole has a crazy amount of water runoff damage it’s actually quite amazing.
I think if management just invests in a few things like improved greens and a proper cart path they can demand a few more dollars as well.
Not the best in the area but if you want to get out on a whim and in the cheap this is the place to go.
Worst Condition Ever!
Course went downhill FAST! No fairways. They even have sand bunker on the green.
Horrible horrible horrible
Save your money, it should have been free. Obviously no money has been put forth for maintenance and upkeep
Good "practice" course - use colored golf balls to find them in the fairway
This is the second time I've played Indian River this year and knew going in the conditions are not great there but there is little golfing pressure so you can really just work on your game and pace yourself without being pushed from behind or waiting behind slow play. So go there knowing that a lot of the fairways and greens are burned up and you work around that best you can. One tip is to used colored balls given I "lost" a number of balls in the middle of the fairway on some holes where there was barely any grass and the white balls don't show up as well against the sandy colored soil!
Geeens like sand traps
Greens are the worst i have ever seen. Patches of sand throughout every green and the fairways aren’t any better. The tee boxes are shot to where you are lucky to find any grass to hit off of. Super disappointed in the condition of this course since it used to be so nice about 5 years ago. I will not spend a dime here ever again after what I saw today. They will be lucky to still be open in a year with how it looks right now.
Good course to "practice" your game and workout the kinks
I've read all the reviews about how rough and beaten up Indian River was so I was prepared for the worst but in reality it wasn't too bad playing it. It was a beautiful day, birds singing and no one playing ahead of behind me! I'll take that. I think it's a great course to work out your swing from driver down to pitch shots and just know that putting on the greens is 50-50 at best. You can work on your long or short shots depending on your ability and the fairway undulations and numerous hazards make it challenging enough . There are a few holes in decent condition but there are many holes where the fairways feel like "waste bunkers" so I just move my ball to some small patch of grass or just hit from the sandy ground if I want to challenge myself.
You just have to go in with the right mindset that this course is good to work out your swing and drop an extra ball or two at times when you hit a bad shot and want to work out that problem. I definitely will be going here from time to time when I want to just have an easy, no pressure, practice day.
Rough Shape
Terrible Conditions., Greens Awful and couldn’t even putt on some. Only half the tee boxes were in acceptable shape,Many were either closed or just sand. Great layout but awful conditions with wash out and chucks of grass missing every hole.
Hope
Hoping the course is revived to the state it was 4 years ago. All aspects of the course are atrocious. Greens with minimal grass and sections gouged out. Several fairways with no turf. I do not expect this course to stay open too long. The area is surrounded with homes and Lexington/Columbus communities have plenty of golfers. The layout is really cool. With the right investment, the course will be great again.
Good value
The greens were still a little rough and some of the fairways were patchy. Otherwise, it was good and a lot of fun.
Terrible conditions
Course needs grass. Most fairways are bare and greens just as bad. Some greens had several sand areas on them with some of these sandy areas actually being dug up.
Needs vast course improvements
I have never played on such a course that needed this much repair and maintenance needed. I really did not want to even hit my clubs on any of the holes. There was no grass on the tee boxes, the fairways were washed out in spots and barley any grass. The greens needed a ton of work, there are huge dirt squares were the grass was cut out and a ton of weeds covering them as well. If they get some grass growing and get some maintenance done this could be a really great challenging course, but will take a TON of work!!
Indian river
Best golf course in Columbia imo. Never overbooked and really slow like every other course in Columbia. Greens need some work as they’re really patchy but overall a really nice place to play
